Never did finish the "Foundation" series. I found the first book boring. That said, Asimov, along with Arthur C Clarke and AE van Vogt were favourite authors until I was about 15, when they were replaced by Clifford Simak, Anne McCaffrey, Edmund Cooper, Jack Vance, Bob Shaw, Ray Bradbury, and HP Lovecraft. I don't think I have a favourite Asimov story, not even "Nightfall". On the other hand, his "Guide to Science" volumes were touchstones for many years and I still enjoy the "Space Mail" anthologies which he edited.
I can’t remember if I read Prelude or Foundation first, but I didn’t get any further. And I LOVED the first one I read. Still, this was a long time ago - tastes change. I think a writer of this quality deserves a revisit 😊 (Thanks for the comment and the exceptional list of author tips!! ❤️❤️)
@@StrangeReads The gentlemen on the list may sometimes be problematic for contemporary audiences but they take weird ideas and make them work. Lovecraft's aliens aside, I think the weirdest one was the anti-neutrino planet in Shaw's "A Wreath of Stars". McCaffrey's Pern series is obviously her best, although I like "Restoree" and "Decision at Doona". Of course, the title of the latter sounds a bit odd to Australian ears!
I'll have to check that one out, Andrew. You're correct, there are so many fantastic tales. Before doing this episode I polled friends and a few Sci-Fi pages for people's favourite Asimov tale. I don't think we got the same answer twice - testament to the author, I think!

@@southron_d1349 Haha, true! What speculative choices we make beneath the duvet down under.
My favourite short story is ‘The Cold Equations’ by Tom Godwin.
I liked Asimov’s stories but it would be hard to choose a favourite among them.
