I want to see him go whatever happens but how successful he has been comes down to whether he wins on Sunday or not. If he hasn't won anything after 4 stabs at it given the draws and the players at his disposal, then he's ultimately underachieved.

I’d disagree, may have had some decent draws but remember how bad it was before he came in, losing to Iceland in the euros hardly even making it out of a group, now we are semi finalists minimum most tournaments

We have had good draws because of good results. Good results in the qualifiers to get a good group, and then good results in groups to get good draws. We should have had France and Belgium on our side of the draw, neither of them finished top of their group so ended up on the other side of the draw. Southgate ultimately is responsible for the results in qualifiers, the results in the groups, which led to the good draws.

Semi, Final, QF, Final/WInner - that is a pretty good record for any International Manager over 4 tournaments. And yet I cannot bring myself to love Sougtgate or his sides. We are very lucky to get this far - he was 12 seconds from the sack - not that Bellingham's goal was luck - but bizarely I think that if he WINS on Sunday he will step down, but if he loses, he will carry on.....so I truly hope we win !!!

Its hard to judge. Yes Southgate has brought us to finals and semis but we haven't beaten a strong team yet either. If we keep Southgate i hope we are part of a more fair/ tough group to see what we are made of early! Many other managers with this talented team against the lack of opposition we've faced i believe could've done the same job or better. Southgate was in the right place at the right time

My granny could have gotten this team to the final, look who they were playing. The Dutch were very poor the other night I don’t think Spain are going to lie down like that. I think if England win the tournament it will be in spite of Southgate not because of him. Would any premier league fan want Southgate anywhere near their team? Would any championship teams fans? I highly doubt it, his brand of football is terrible he has one of if not the best squad in the world and they have never played anywhere near their potential and regularly squeak by lesser teams they should be dominating. I hope they keep him as I don’t think England will ever win anything under him regardless of how many finals they get to

It's semantics really. Technically he's not a success until he's successful at his goal which is winning major international tournaments. But it's unfair to frame it in that way. I still believe Southgate is strategically lacking. I still think he's been very lucky to get his overall results in these 8 years. BUT I won't deny him his due credit on achievements, even if we don't win this tournament, because his record speaks for itself. That can't be taken from him.

Southgate won't change his top or his starting 11 and people are expecting him to change his job? He should go no matter what. His style of football is boring, he can't manage a game, he's stubborn, his plan b is sheer panic and you can't give a person a job based on a string of luck. Everyone knows he's not getting the best out of the squad, everyone knows he plays lessor sides as though we're the underdog and everyone knows that there's hundreds of managers better at all aspects of the job. The minimum at the last World Cup was to beat Croatia, the minimum at the last Euro's was to win it and the bare minimum for this Euro's is to win it. If he doesn't win it he'd have been a total loser in my eyes. At least if he wins this time he can leave with the illusion of being a great manager, fool some big club to give him a hefty contract and then he'll get well and truly found out.

    • @JackSmith-tx5il

Everything you have said here is literally opinion based off of what you think you’re watching. No real concrete facts. England have a good team yes but that doesn’t mean they have a Devine right to win the tournament. Yes England should have beaten Italy that is true, but they lost on penalties and they weren’t ready. His plan B is absolutely no panic at all, never in his whole time as the manager has he looked like he is panicking. It’s not luck and it’s not coincidence that Gareth Southgate has taken England to 2 consecutive European championship finals. Look at the way the other winners have won the euros. They all won it playing their way of football right? Okay… well like it or not this is the English way of playing football and everyone knows it. No matter who the England manager is, they are not going to play free flowing attacking football, it just doesn’t work, it’s not in England DNA. And if England win on Sunday and you don’t give Southgate any credit for it and have the mindset the players did it without him and he had no influence they we might as well have the top premier league teams who also have good sides play with no manager next season then and we will see how they get on? You’re talking nonsense here. Southgate frustrates me at times yes but he also has earned praise. He went for the win against the Dutch and his 2 subs combined. He was brave and took off the premier league player of the year (Foden) and also his captain Harry Kane. And it worked so he should absolutely be getting the credit for that… if pep Guardiola makes that sub we’d be speaking his name for weeks, but because it’s Southgate and he plays a more defensive style that people don’t like people just try their hardest not to give him any credit at all even when things go right. Blaming him when it goes wrong and not giving him credit when it goes right is just stupidity that cannot denied to be honest. Get behind the team and get behind the manager for Christ sake. COME ON 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

International success is winning tournaments anything else is a failure no matter how many finals you go to

The result of this Sunday HAS to be relevant because you can't sack a manager who has achieved what is asked of him. Even if it's a bullshit, scabby, lucky win. To even contemplate sacking him if we win this tournament is absolutely insane. Imagine what that'd do to the morale, passion and motivation of the team and manager of the future. Unreal demoralisation. We might as well sack off the next few tournaments if we do that. Otherwise we're gonna say he stays in no matter what? That's almost equally as bad. They only have a choice to make if we lose this upcoming match. I believe Southgate has been astoundingly lucky however I wouldn't dream of not allowing him a chance at the world cup if we win this.

Funny how the narrative can so quickly switch to praise after the performances we've been putting in. This is why not all of us are so easily pleased with Southgate and want him gone. Let's be honest if England had a difficult draw of opponents we wouldn't have got out the groups. i think its a smart decision by the FA, especially if he wins it. i think they will win it on Sunday and if they do why would you want to let go of a manager who has just won the Euros. it makes no sense.
