    I think it worked out better to have John Deacon in the scene rather than Freddy Mercury, cause everyone knows who Freddy is. To have John Deacon introduce himself and everyone saying "huh? who?" and then making him need to awkwardly explain that he was the bassist in Queen was much funnier.

    • @quackman
      @quackman ปีที่แล้ว +261

      Plus Deacon wrote Another One Bites the Dust. he was also the "quiet, misunderstood weirdo" of the band, making it kinda fitting he was at the party too.

      I cried like a baby. It was so emotional and reminded me of every single little thing that made Al so magnificently brilliant. The underlying story detailing the relationship he had with his parents (mostly, his dad forbidding his polka playing) was obviously hilariously exaggerated, but it was probably the one theme in the movie that was the closest thing to his actual experiences in real life.

      I think I would have much rather preferred the humor stick to a dewey cox walk hard level of exaggerated humor. I think the movie only hit it a few times, when he's around the table talking to his dad for a few scenes near the beginning and near the end, and him talking about the absurd factory scenes. I kept expecting the movie to get as good as that dinner scene, and be similar to Walk Hard. It just didn't quite get there for me. Don't regret seeing it, was fun, and at least for the first half before really going off the rails, was actually a little educational, think I saw it with my dad, who was telling me bits and pieces about the radio DJ and other stuff.

    Weird Al's NEXT stop really needs to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! This guys longevity, ability to adapt to each decade as the music changed, his amazing ORIGINAL tunes as well as his massive influence on Pop Culture....it's a no-brainer! The R&RHOF says that Rock and Roll isn't just music but attitude and influence...I'd say Al checks both of those boxes and I'd be willing to bet that if he were to be announced as a class member, no self respecting entertainer would even bat an eye. And some will even say, "'Bout damn time!!"

      Yes, I remember the first time Dr. D. played anything by Al. (I listened to his show from its start on KPPC.) As I recall the real Al was in college and recorded himself in a school restroom because the acoustics were good. I knew Barry (Dr. D.) for a while, took a class from him, lent him some old 78s to tape, and even got to attend his wedding reception. It was a little strange to see a much taller Dr. D. in the film!

      Born in '78 and I only know the name Wolfman Jack; I never heard him on the radio. Luckily though Dr. Demento was still at his widest level of syndication when I was a young teenager and I can definitely remember the first time I stumbled onto his show late at night. I know I'm not alone in being a weird kid who felt alone - finding that gem really meant a lot.

      If we'd seen the Weird Al directors cut version of the pool scene that still had the deleted scenes with the every person at the pool engaging in some very tastefully shot gratuitous full frontal nudity it would have more clearly highlighted the Boogie Nights parallel.

One was a Mexican radio station that played nothing but punk and hard core metal, the dr. Dr show and a local San diego station that did metal music not given air time during regular hours. Back then it was like metallic anthrax megadeth thrash bands mostly.
