I was expecting about 18"-24" across, and mine sat for a bit after I planted it last year, and then it jumped out to about 3.5 foot across, and it didn't start sending up a stalk until this spring. In the last week it has gone from knee to waist high.... And Im 5'10!

harvesting is the best part. We had a cool spring/early summer in Nor Cal so I just pulled the last of my lettuce and spinch plants and prepped the bed for round two of bush beans. My first planting of bush beans is about 60 percent done and shares space with my tomatoes once the beans are done I'll be moving my pumpkins out of pots and into the bean bed. Small space have to keep things turned over.
@@ourfreedomsong yellow wax (which is the same thing) one I think baker creek heirloom seeds. They might have other veriaties also. There's at least one heirloom purple that does this. Lol. I don't use hybrids etc, so I don't advertise them either. These heirlooms were bred to hold up the beans to speed up commercial harvesting. Blessings everyone.
I'm inspired❤....I am a wannabe gardener but I recently heard that when the first melon appear you are suppose to take it off. It's considered a dummy melon and doing that will maybe prompt the plant to produce more....but I am def not an expert nor grown melon but I just so happen to come across that info one day....happy harvesting!
