I suggest after you get the rabbit out, you put up some hardware cloth (rabbit wire;) around the lower perimeter of your garden.

So happy to see folks planting and growing their own food and loving the process. I just started a little garden on my balcony but are making plans to buy property to make a larger garden to plant more food for my family. Lovely garden so peaceful and relaxing now you need to build a sitting area for yourself in the garden

I live in the Midwest and, no matter the area, we’ve always had HOARDES of bunnies everywhere. The thing is, I have never once had any of them do anything other than hop through and sniff everything. I even found a nest of them in a veggie patch and they didn’t touch a thing. Their poop is so helpful, too! I wish I could bottle up whatever magic is going on around me and send it to you.
Good luck with the bunny! I hope it moves on and you all are able to enjoy your hard work.

I love that your garden has been not only protected but even fertilized by the bunnies!!! We have so many wild bunnies and this is the very first any has entered the garden!
I would appreciate all that magic ✨ hahaha

I was just thinking this. They nest under my trailer every winter, and I see them in other people's yards. We have 2 cats, and typically have several neighborhood cats that will sniff out the nest every winter (the neighborhood cats, not mine). As much as I enjoy seeing bunnies, I always hope they will stay away. They never eat the veggies though.

I agree. I actually don't wanna hurt it. The trap Thomas built doesn't harm it. And also has an opening that not only allows us to see in but for the rabbit to breathe .

You talked about tajin a while back. 🤤
Take you some of those cucumbers peel and dice them.
Get some lemon/lime or a mix of both and juice them, pour on cucumber.
Add a light dusting of cayenne pepper (optional).
Add heavy dusting of tajin (not optional). 😂
    Enjoy! Sooo good!
I’d say store left overs in the fridge but who am I kidding. 😂

This is such a dilemma for me! I LOVE our wild baby bunnies! They are so adorable! But of course no one plants a garden to feed bunnies!
I have three wild little ones on our property and it may sound crazy, but I have been putting food out for them at the little arches that they have made in the blackberry bushes. This has kept them content enough that they haven’t ventured across the yard to the garden so far. They come out and eat the treats, the grass, and the dandelions and run back into their little blackberry houses. I think of Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail every time I see them! 😆 Unfortunately, it sounds like you have Peter!!! Ha ha

Love your garden as well as your green house. Gardening newbie that’s starting inside, I was wondering, do you prepare different fertilizers for every plant or do you just use one fertilizer? This confuses me. Thank you.

    • @ourfreedomsong
      @ourfreedomsong  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you ❤️
What an exciting season for you! I'm so happy to hear that you are gardening!
My super short answer would be to encourage you to use a all around good fertilizer like fish emulsion for your garden! ( A Google search on how to use it will help you out tremendously!)
There is so much information out there on fertilizing so I definitely understand how overwhelming that is! When you get fertilizer from the store they typically have three numbers on the front separated by a dash (-)
those numbers represent (in order) nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. In short there are some plants that need one of something more than another and that's why when you see different bags of fertilizer, the numbers are different. Higher or lower for each nutrient.
You can buy specific fertilizers for specific plants like Tomato tone that is geared towards fertilizing tomatoes.
Amendments may also be a term you have heard. They are also a type of fertilizer for soil.
Bone meal for example increases phosphorus
      Blood meal increases Nitrogen
Azomite(rock dust) provides Calcium, Magnesium and Potassium
These are just some examples and I hope it helps you out!
Getting one "balanced" fertilizer and learning how often to use that, will help you ❤️
Let me know if you have any more questions or if you need clarity!

@@ourfreedomsong you will never keep out animal out- just find stuff to deter them..... rabbits can be sneaky and will eat everything!! you could make some chicken wire cloches or get some white shear netting. *cheaper, and lay it over everything, use wood or bricks or something to secure veggies- hopefuylly the deterrent will be enough, remember rabbits will chew thru electirc wire- so try to out smart them- - like fleas, if there is one theres MORE :( ***ALSO, get some CATS- keep them as greenhouse cats- they are a good deterrent for bunny, rats, etc.... barncats are what farmer and ranchers call em!! xoxox

So sorry to hear about the bunny problem. I understand how frustrating that can be. Here in Michigan we have groundhogs and they are a nightmare. I've had them now for two years and every single day I go out to my garden and whole vegetables are demolished. Cabbage, collards, leafy greens, cauliflower, brocolli. 😢 It has been so dishearting. So I pray yall catch him. But on a good note your garden is looking lush and beautiful.

  • @cherylpresleigh6403
    @cherylpresleigh6403 ปีที่แล้ว

Most all of our beds are too tall for the rabbits to even be tempted to get in. However, our strawberry patch has been hosting rabbit nests. 😢 you may actually have a nest in the garden. They burrow into the ground so you may want to look around the area you saw the baby. The nest we found this year we hope is the last nest. We made sure to confirm there were no babies in the nest before we remedied the problem. After removing the nest we added hardware cloth around the cattle panel fencing to shut down easy access into the patch. Then pushed cement blocks around the base to keep them from digging. Ironically, they don’t seem to eat the berries nor have they bothered the three beds in the kitchen garden. It could be they’re to close to the house and the AC is kind of loud there. The rabbits are also preyed upon by the eagles, hawks and owls that are here as well as coyotes so thankfully, the number of rabbits never really become problematic.

That bunny, being a baby, is not doing half the damage he'll be able to do in a few months. Best to get on top of the issue now.
Even if the trap works this time, I think I would go along with my fellow viewers and advise you to dig a slit trench with a spade when the ground is soft. Stick the spade in and make a slit as deep as you can, and put chicken wire down into it and to at least 3ft high above ground. My sister, who had her entire city garden eaten to the ground [roses and all] by her neighbours pet rabbit, says it needs to be 5ft high, but you could start at three and see how it goes?

The little rabbit may be big enough to fend for itself since it's got all it's fur and is able to eat greens and run. They're born more helpless than kittens.
