i love this, i love how they inspire me. i became an engineer thanks to all of those car related youtube channels, im so grateful for your efforts, hope you can read my comment and know.
I agree w/ a lot of other people about doing a video on the Porsche, but if you do, please make sure that they say the name of the car correctly. Porsh-a.
There is nothing wrong with the LS engine. The current model beat all those badges you just rattled off on your nurburgring and it isn't even direct injected. Chevy stayed away from overhead cams because they wanted to keep the engine light and small. It works.
Which will last about as long as it takes the next ZR1 to get out there. For all the flack the Corvette gets, it has accomplished impressive feats. For the price you would be hard pressed to match it.
It has to meet California emissions standards, which are just as stringent as EU protocols, to be sold in that state and they are. As far as I know Corvettes are sold in the EU. They just don't sell as many because export fees jack up the price, and many people hate anything with an American flag on it there.
where did you get the idea that they didn't get new technology? how do you think they make massive power? I think your thinking of pushrod engines from the muscle car era.
DOHC and SOHC motors have been around for just as long.... 80 years of experience.... whereas we really don't know half as much about OHC mtorors... and they CANNOT make as much torque down low....
in 1917 the Napier Lion had a dohc engine. over head cam engines have been around for just as long. maybe you should ask your self why no dohc engine can make power like a ls pushrod engine.
You had me with all the GM Rah-rah, until you said how beautiful the new Nissan 370Z coupe was... Oh, wait, you put a different badge on it, it's the new corvette, you say? Oh, and you're trashing the small block 350... Really?
The question is, is it all about the power? Is that the only thing we're looking for? I don't think so. See the Audi slogan ,,Vorsprung durch Technik'' in english: ,,progress through technology''. I see no progress from GM you know.
UK/~EU petrol £1.35 per litre US petrol £0.55 per litre There really isn't much point in comparing engine technology, European manufacturers simply have to be more efficient. It doesn't make any sense claiming a GM LS engine is 'all that' in comparison. If it were then we'd all have them in Europe and virtually nobody does. Realise and enjoy the current fuel situation you have in the US would be my advice, it can't last forever.
You are so clever! You do realize though, pushrod's are indeed the innovation when compared to over head cams. OHC/DOHC came about in 1919, pushrod engines not until 1949. You owned yourself with your own sarcasm haha.
get a clue man, no they are not using the same head from 49. As for 4k hp, the potential is there, to get that number you just need a block machined from a chunk of aluminum, a huge blower, and some nitro. But if you want the real reason these engines are better and not some dumb number. The power band, and the torque they produce.. Compare to a 2JZ and you will see. 2khp is pointless when you max out at 500lb of torque because your stroke is so dam short. Ill take a big ass V8 stroker anyday!
speaking of american progress, have you ever heard of the scotch yoke or the free piston engine? better yet, do you even know how a rotary engine works?
Sir, when I start my '67 Impala project, I can already tell I'm going to be more than happy to give you a call. LS7 sounds like a perfect fit.
Glad you liked it! Stay tuned!
Just awesome, love this interview style video. Grabbed me in heaps, great stories, and very passionate with their career's.
Nice job Chris & Bruce .... CBM Motors are the best in UAE and all middle East... And the best customer service....
Although I may not like all of motortrend's videos, their editing is flawless in each one!
wonderful video! it's really nice to hear stories like this. real car guys doing what the love. bravo
Thanks for letting us know! What other kinds of content would you like to see?
i love this, i love how they inspire me. i became an engineer thanks to all of those car related youtube channels, im so grateful for your efforts, hope you can read my comment and know.
Those pushrods in the LS engines are so cutting edge for valve technology, GM really are on top of innovation when it comes to their motors.
That Porsche LS swap is the wildest thing I've ever seen!
I have one of their motors in my GTO, great product
That LS7 in the 996 is just awesome! now give it a about 4.5 psi of boost and we're really cookin'! ;)
I would love to see more of that 911 with LS engine.. Please make another video of that car...
Awesome series! I love you MotorTrend, you're the shit!
Where do you find these people? They are always so down to earth and so freaking cool!
That's what I'm talking about, you get it man. Thx.
Thanks, dude! Would be nice with a real feature on it though :)
Nice work guys. Now go out to Glamis and shoot some video of their motors at work!
REAL GOOD STORY!! NICE VIDEO!!
motor trend u have to do an episode on that porsche with the LS engine, i am beging you. please, anyone who is curious, thumbs up. and thank you!
That Porches is sick
Nice. More on the Porsche, please :)
possibly a stupid question, but does that mean its still carbeurated? or do you just mean it uses push rod fuel injection?
Great short video
in germany they would kill me for that, but would love to take the risk. pure awesomeness!
Should've taken that Rail to Barstow for some testing
Awesome vid! Howed you get the Cali plates on that 911?
I agree w/ a lot of other people about doing a video on the Porsche, but if you do, please make sure that they say the name of the car correctly. Porsh-a.
It would be hard to argue that LS engines are the best all around v8's ever created. Pushrods till the end, im so glad gm stuck with proven technology
what kind of car do you have, and how much does the clutch itself cost? i bet more than a clutch for a stock LS.... alot more
gm makes good small and big block v8's NUFF SAID
There is nothing wrong with the LS engine. The current model beat all those badges you just rattled off on your nurburgring and it isn't even direct injected. Chevy stayed away from overhead cams because they wanted to keep the engine light and small. It works.
Please make a separate video of that 911 with the LS7 engine. Thanks.
Please do this, I'm wondering how he managed to get the transmission to spin in the opposite direction.
Like Deftone said, "Nope". The Porsche is actually 39 pounds lighter with the LS motor in it. So it got more power and less weight.
But would it work for the German marked?
I mean EURO 6 (emission standard) and is it really durable?
Things like that.
Yes, let's see that Porsche engine swap ASAP.
does that LS engine on the 911 support AWD ?
very good
Which will last about as long as it takes the next ZR1 to get out there. For all the flack the Corvette gets, it has accomplished impressive feats. For the price you would be hard pressed to match it.
Did he say LS7 in a Porsche? I didn't even know that was possible, wow.
You mean one that makes equal or less horsepower with dohc but is physically larger, heavier, and far less fuel efficient? Good call.
LSX + TT + Porsche = Holy Shit
That Porsche taking off at the end doesn't sound like a V8, sounds like a Flat 6? I may be going insane.....
It has to meet California emissions standards, which are just as stringent as EU protocols, to be sold in that state and they are. As far as I know Corvettes are sold in the EU. They just don't sell as many because export fees jack up the price, and many people hate anything with an American flag on it there.
wanna see more inside of the chevy engines
ahh thanks, much appreciated :)
Yes, more 911 + LS
Hey im looking to buy a Ls engine for my 68 camaro, can anyone link me to a form or something that explains the difference between them.
Dear Motor Trend: Hows-about-a whole segment on that 911 with an LS...?
nice video always :)
I want a video on the porsche with the LS engine
I want to see a test of that Porsche. Put it up against the new 911 turbo.
Very curious as to how it matches up.
I wanna see that Porsche do a wheelie!!!
Be honest, before you saw his image y'all thought he was Philip Seymour Hoffman.
please do a video about that porsche
do a video on the LS 911
We all wanna see the 911, LS7 at work. Even that guy, yoghi993. So give it to us. Come on. Let's have it.
RB25 or 2JZ..(maybe even the SR20) all day, but gots to respect good ol' American muscle
where did you get the idea that they didn't get new technology? how do you think they make massive power? I think your thinking of pushrod engines from the muscle car era.

Um my ls1 has just a base tune with a 170º thermostat @400horse @ the wheels I'm pretty hard on it and STILL manage 19-23mpg
:-D yeah right, I do it in 40min in my garage
Porsche took all the interest cause of last 7 seconds
That's not a Porsche, that;s a Chevrolet Corvair.
LEGENDAS EM BR PLEASE....
More pls !!!!
Imagine how light it must be on the front with that huge chunck of engine in it. That's the downside.
You're welcome ;-)
Isso foi 1 programa de entrevista ? Porque carros andando não vi nada :(

I wanna see the Porsche LS swap!
omg that Porsche
It still has to be heavier than any boxer 6 Porsche has made
i wonder how bad that Porsches handling is with a big v8 in the rear. That must add alot of weight!
3:56 screen saver
4:02 no screen saver
i want to see the porch runing
Chevrolet 4 Life!!!
Agreed :-)
the video is on here. just search for Porsche 911 ls7
This was cool, though want to see more of the cars and less about the owners.
The question is, is it all about the power?
Is that the only thing we're looking for?
I don't think so. See the Audi slogan ,,Vorsprung durch Technik'' in english: ,,progress through technology''.
I see no progress from GM you know.
LS7 is Porsche? Guess my LS7 into my 350z wouldn't be too hard...
LS7 in a 911.. daaaaaamnn

Squezing a V8 in a 996 Porsche is quite an achievement, but there's just one thing. It's wrong.
Actually the LS motor isn't that heavy.

reliability, but just because there is no progress through technology, you do not even think so?
It's Mr. Spock. But that's OK. :)
a 911 with an ls7!, wow
speaking of american progress, have you ever heard of the scotch yoke or the free piston engine? better yet, do you even know how a rotary engine works?
Porsche 918 beat the ZR1's record :)
first they'd have to catch you.
1800 holy fucking shit
