We have a totally useless Chief Justice. Roberts should TELL Alito (and Thomas) to recuse themselves. Otherwise, whatever their "opinion", this would be ignored or merely recorded as a "dissent". These "Justices" do not deserve the respect which should attach to their positions.

Yep this lack of working rules is a big red flag of the possible end of a great organization/government. Some don’t follow the rules because they’re “entitled”; others don’t understand the rules & why they’re necessary (no foresight), some are anarchists on a personal or political level to cause chaos; then there are those who are engaged in civil disobedience making political statements. How are we to tell the bad motives from the “excusable” errors? Accepting so many mistakes/errors in job duties allows for too much corruption across the board! Much “oopsie booboos” are small or seem small things but we never know until they happen to us or someone we know because errors often have long-term side affects teaching into other areas of life! If people do their jobs then we can know the rules snd do what needs to be done rather than trying to divine how something needs doing to get the needed or desired results. Graft? Bribery? Judges aren’t supposed to take sides or demonstrate that they favor a side in any way.. judges used to also take pride in his or her ability to not take a side.. it’s called the Code of Conduct for Inited States Judges or JCUS-APR 73, pp. 9-11. The problem is these ‘rules’ or ‘laws’ is they have no governing body and no way to enforce them so for now, they are simply lost words and actions on a page.

The entire system for appointing Supreme Court justices in the United States needs to be reformed. No justice should hold a lifetime appointment. Justices should be democratically appointed and serve for a limited term, similar to the presidency. Continuing the current practice undermines legal certainty, which in turn nullifies the purpose of the Supreme Court.

As a teacher, I am seeing and experiencing disrespect from students significantly more than ever in my 30 year career. I believe it is a direct result of the disrespect exhibited by the people holding some of the highest positions in our nation. This is lead by the ex (and hopefully never again) president.
I hear the same from long time teachers I know. Elected officials, with some exceptions, used to value at least the appearance of decorum. It doesn't matter now.
Civility is fading from our society.

Why doesn't the Senate Judiciary Committee subpoena Alieto? That at least would be a most sensible act considering all the frivolous hearings the House has been holding in the two last years! Are the Dems worried about "the look" of that action? It would definitely be applauded by every upstanding citizen!

Thank you for your cogent commentary about the slow denigration of SCOTUS. The lack of ethics reflected in the daily actions of some of the members has substantially diminished the esteem with which this venerable institution was once regarded. The actions of Justices Thomas and Alito are absolutely shameful and disgrace the legacy of objective justice the Court has traditionally upheld. What lies ahead??
I hope there is an investigation into all of Alito’s rulings.!!
I blame this on the founders. I revere Madison, Hamilton, Franklin, etc., but they never put in checks and balances for SCOTUS. They believed them capable of policing themselves. What an egregious error that we are tainted with today!
