    Your horse is absolutely breath-taking. He's lean, strong, and has a long, beautifully-strided canter. You should feel lucky you have such a gorgeous creature to work with and love.

    Wunderbarer Anblick.

    Haha in the horse world they call Friesians BOLD. But, as we know, that just means they do whatever the hell they want, haha! But, they are AMAZING horses once they get the idea of what we as riders are asking of them, and really, the patience is most rewarding this way! Haha happy riding!

    beautiful horse! we have a lot of friesians here in holland, and their canter is their hard gate, they are bred on their trot. your trainer is very good!

  • @skywalker273
    @skywalker273 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lovely big friesian canter! I have a friesian gelding too and watching this video reminds me of my own difficulties with the canter. Skywalker does exactly the same thing when asked for the canter. Very good going clockwise, but stiff and struggling a bit on the other side and easily breaking back into the trot. Typical friesian thing! But don't we just adore them anyway!

  • @creaturelover
    @creaturelover 13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @stardustmypony She is cantering in light seat, keeping the weight off his back so he can use it more. It helps the horse warm up. I had to do this with my thoroughbred. But, yes, you are supposed to have you bum in the saddle

  • @gabriellerausch594

    Back is hollow, heels aren't down, borderline chair seat (her leg needs to be more under her), she was bouncing in her canter/gallop (it would be almost fixed if her heels where down and her back wasn't hollow). Just constructive criticism ❤️ some good points are: her hands are quiet, and she has a good following seat at a slower speed.

  • @CelticTears101

    THAT'S NOT A GALLOP! xD i may be saying this because i just got done watching a video of a shetland running like he was being chased by rabid dogs.... but the horse is beautiful and he has amazing movements. you are so lucky to have him

    @FriesianCatRider For me, that actually is new information, and interesting too!
    Thanks for sharing! So I guess as it would relate over here, we'd call it canter, hand gallop and full out gallop. :)

    @8HorseFreak8 A registered/approved Friesian is black. They are the only ones "accepted" by the breed standard and "allowed" to stand as an official Friesian stud/mare. It's up to individual owners to cross with what they want and it's entirely likely someone crossed one with a horse that has white genetics.

    it says the trainer is for Switzerland and here in Switzerland we make no difference between cantering and galopping, we always use the word "gallop". And i don't think this is an important mistake either.

  • @usandpets
    @usandpets 16 ปีที่แล้ว

    gorgeous horse! i'm not an expert trainer or rider so i'm not going to judge the trainer, which looks like she is doing well with the horse. who says not to use spurs? we have a 7, 5, and 2 2year olds. the five and 1 2 y.o. have to have spurs or no response to leg cues. good luck with him. are you bringing him back to the states? how much does that cost?

  • @persephonemaeve2704
    @persephonemaeve2704 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is where I'm at with my young friesian. What people don't realise is that their movement is so big that an arena seems too small to them to canter. They really do cover a lot of ground

    • @field.guide.designs
      @field.guide.designs 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m in the same boat with my Friesian cross mare. An arena feels so small. And she really avoids the canter. I think she feels confined.

    @free2dance2012 Nice! i was riding a horse once and his name was Elvis, i think they gave him that name because he is always moving around with his head haha doing a little dance.
    I went on a trail ride with him and whenever he saw someone going in a canter he wanted to gallop and go faster haha it was really fun!

  • @paardenlaura
    @paardenlaura 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    I didn't read all the comments and I'm sorry if I'm saying something that's already been said.
    First of all I love your horse, really beautiful.
    Second If she's a trainer, she really is bad. I'd find someone else if I were you, she's ruiening? your horse. When she puls the rain on the inside and pulls his/her head down there's no way she'll be able to put his left leg forward first.
    It's better to get his head more to the outside so he'll be able to put his left leg forward first.

  • @ccraven11
    @ccraven11 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @DjokkeT1 i think what she is trying to do is extend on the straights and collect in the corners. its a good way to develop striding in cross country and achieve the collected canter needed for dressage. i was taught by my riding instructer that brings on eventers and i use it on a ex-race horse im bringing on too.
    also she might be using the spurs for a more direct signal. dressage is supposed to look effortless. i might be completely wrong here but thats just how ive seen it. =]

  • @eventhorizon
    @eventhorizon 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Um, I didn't say she "needed" to, just that the other poster was saying if she had "clarified" she'd have less of a headache from people who are saying it's not a gallop.
    Re-read what I actually wrote. We're basically saying the same thing.
    And again- I never said she had to do anything, I was just explaining the point another poster was trying to make- Since the poster was getting annoyed by the admittedly stupid "That's not a gallop" post.

    European thing or not she still should know better regardless if she is an Olympian rider. I work for a former Olympian trainer myself & she only does dressage. She had a bad accident where the horse spoke for no real reason fell on her. THANK GOD she had her helmet on cos it had big dent in it & she still went to the ER by helicopter & stayed 2 dys in ICU cus of minor bleed in the brain. Shes fine now but can U image what could have happen? Best riders in the world know better. Hes beautiful!

    @rocospanky 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't want to seem like one of those know it all people, but I'm a trainer and the rider here is doing a great job, nice horse as well, but she and I share a common fault, tightening up on the left rein and not being long enough in the left leg/seat. If she can sit left, and let go with the left hand - back that up with the sitting left leg on, she will nail every left canter pick up. Honestly just trying to help. I just starting working with a friesian, any advice?

    When your riding and asking him to canter off, you put him to a disadvantage by having the horses head turned inwards. You need his head pointed to the outside in order to set him up for the proper lead. Good luck. Thanks for the video.

  • @DeathKitty123456
    @DeathKitty123456 13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I see no gallop just a canter in the school, leg movement is what changes the gait not the speed. Also you shouldn't ride with spurs if you can't keep you legs still. ALSO to get you horse on the correct lead leg (which you tried about 5 times before suceeding) put your inside leg on the girth and outside leg behing the girth instead of just pulling the head round to try to make the horse bend -.- doesn't work unless the whole body bends hense your legs.

  • @ilovehorses5345
    @ilovehorses5345 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    A lady who owns friesians told me friesians can only walk, canter, and trot. I think the horse may be cantering, I'm not sure, but maybe.

  • @LolaMyBorderTerrier

  • @jukka2311

  • @oobagooba100
    @oobagooba100 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    for all of the people who say "I dont see a gallop" I do indeed see a gallop everytime she goes on the far long wall.

  • @LaskaSkywalker
    @LaskaSkywalker 13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @FriesianCatRider nevertheless, if u fall down without a helmet it's far more dangerous; no matter how good or bad one's riding. but that's an individual decision so nothing to care about via TH-cam. it's her head, after all ;-)
    but I have another question - why is she moving up and down while cantering?
    never saw that before, it's almost like she's trotting o.O you either stand up OR sit down in canter and in this case I'd say - sit down

  • @littlemissbiochem
    @littlemissbiochem 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @LaskaSkywalker I don't know if you've ever looked into it before, but in polo, sometimes we post to the canter (looks different than in this vid, though, almost slower) and it's actually a lot of fun!
    Anyway, this horse is beautiful! I am so jealous!

  • @eventhorizon
    @eventhorizon 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @FriesianCatRider Thing is, to those of us in the states, we'd call that a canter. To us a gallop is only a full out, as fast as the horse can go run.
    Where there's complete suspension between strides, this isn't a full out run, which many would expect with "gallop" in the title.
    The person wasn't asking you to defend anything, just saying if you clarified you'd have less of a headache from people saying "That's not a gallop", who don't realize canters are called gallops in other countries.

  • @Babiiamz1
    @Babiiamz1 14 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    if they r horse trainers then most of the time they know how to stay on. my riding instructor cantered my horse without stirrups coz my legs were longer than hers, loose reins to show that all he does is cut corners and without a hat and she was fine. but i know what u mean, if that horse spooked u would have been on the floor.

    Beautiful horse just looks like he has a stubborn lead at least at this point in his life. Don't take me the wrong way though I know two horses who it's harder for them to get going on the correct lead one way and they are two of my favorite horses to ride. But other than that he is a good looking horse with great movement.

    Looks like the rider is in a hand gallop the first 40 and last 30 seconds. That would explain the two point stance on an extended canter. Btw you have a beautiful horse.

  • @wohafu
    @wohafu 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @SmithyRudeGirl Can't agree to you,that she's spurring too much. Frisians are beautiful,robust horses but having a strong will of it's own.That is why they are mostly calling for to be ridden by using spurs and whip.Think , she's supporting the horse just in the right way !

      Francis44647 I feel people shouldn't talk to adults who understand the risks they're taking, in the same manner they talk to children. She's a grown woman. She understands the risks and accepts them. It's her choice to do so. Random people nagging at her online won't change that.

  • @03firefly
    @03firefly 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    If she is talking about the European gaits then why would she need to specify? What you call a canter, she calls a gallop, and she's not wrong. It's her video, so she can call it what she normally does.

  • @leeleeebabesxxx
    @leeleeebabesxxx 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @1skopec trust me i know you dont need a whip. i never use them unless i'm on a really slow or naughty pony. usually the case with stallions. but the reason for changing a whip isnt so that the judges n that can see it in the showing ring but because it should be on the inside, otherwise the horse is more likely to stay away from the egde if theres a crop there. look we all get taught in defferent ways maybe that was the desired effect by the trainer idk
