Graphing Logarithms

- I introduce graphing Logarithms (which I know is mispelled!) and expain how they are an inverse of exponential functions. At 1:48 I misspoke and stated that all exponential growth functions pass through (1,0), but the point is actually (0,1)
Here are my other PreCalculus lessons involving Logarithms

I keep getting ads that say youtube videos about math never help but they clearly haven't seen your channel.
Look at you watching another video already and sharing another compliment with us...we really appreciate it!
Those paid ads have been running for years...and we never get tired of hearing from our viewers when they find our free channel so helpful..BAM!!!
So we started the logs and exponent unit a week ago. Tomorow we have a quiz on it. Today at 3PM I knew nothing about logs since I never paid attention in class caught up in other work. After watching just a couple of your videos, I now understand everything I need to know to ace tomorows quiz, thank you!
You're welcome...thanks for taking the time to seek outside help and study, it sure makes a difference when you put forth the effort and us teachers appreciate it too...Hope you passed that quiz like BAM!!!
I promise to keep going as long as you keep watching and spreading the word:D...thanks.
:) I like that I showed you something new:) Thanks for watching.
Thanks:) I hope you'll keep watching and learning and sharing!
I find that most teachers on TH-cam do this because they are passionate about teaching and sharing their knowledge with the students who are eager to learn more:) I myself, have put countless hours of personal time into building my channel. I want to keep it FREE for those students who are taking the time to seek out help and study from home and those who may not be able to afford a private tutor...all while teaching in the classroom full-time. But I love teaching and that's why I do this:)
I am trying to be...sort of...with my videos:) I hope you do great in your class!
This is just one of the many videos i used to help me through my college level intermediate algebra. i could NOT have finished this class without your awesome, easy to understand, entertaining instruction!!! and today, i found out i got an A in the class!!!! A sincere thank you from a grateful student. You're worth your weight in gold - strike that - you're worth MY weight in gold! See you in the fall for statistics! BAM! now go tip that teacher!
I like the way you teach Sir. Your vivaciousness is infectious. You make a seemingly boring subject matter interesting and easy to understand….
You are the real proof that not all heroes wear caps... #Respect
Some heroes wear capes
To show you the relationship between the two and hopefully understand it more. Put your function into exponential form 2^y=x+4 subtract 4 from both sides and get 2^y-4=x, then chose some y values in a t-table and solve for x. Graph the points and your done. Domain, you can't log a negative number so x+4>0....x>-4. Y-intercept let x=0. X-intercept let y=0
You have absolutely no idea how much you've been able to help me with just two of your videos. I signed up for youtube just so I can subscribe to your channel and have a reference for whenever I'm stuck on a math problem.
Please keep posting videos!
We honestly really do appreciate them.
You are awesome!!! Thank you so much for your support, for watching, and I am looking forward to helping you ACE that Stats class:D
Yeah!!!...and kudos to you for going back to school, that's awesome! I hope I can continue to furnish you with more help along your new journey:) Thanks for watching.
That's great! Good to see that you are still watching more videos after two days...I like to see that I can keep you coming back...specially during the summer:)
Y=1/3^x is an exponential function and x can be negative. Once you have the t-table done and/or graph done, flip the x & y coor. to graph the inverse function which is y=log(base1/3) of X. You are correct in remembering you can't take the log of a negative number. Your last question, yes an just pick the y values instead of x values first to make your t-table and the points you plot will be for y=log(base 1/2) of X. If this makes sense your graph will have a vertical asymptote of x=0.
Now with Closed Captions: Graphing Logarithms
ProfRobBob you Rock sir without a doubt much appreciated helps with the Test tomorrow.
Thanks for studying with #ProfRobBob K Chili !
Now go pass that test like BAM!!!
I am getting better at making these videos and I do not have to worry about a fifteen minute time period any more, so my new videos have more examples. I will get back to these older videos and make more examples, but I am currently swamped with work from my full time job. I appreciate the feedback. I do listen and use what I can to improve.
And thank you for saying so! I hope my channel will continue to help you...and please share with your friends, Thanks:D
If I don't get math help from TH-cam I would have failed my math classes. Thanks for helping.
Thanks for taking the time to seek outside help and choosing this channel! Sounds like the perfect time to share it with your teacher as a free study resource for ALL the rest of the students who follow...BAM!!!
Happy I could help...And thank you for supporting and subscribing!
I don't know about all that...but it sounds like you were happy with the help I provided! Thanks for choosing my videos to learn from and please be sure to share my channel with your friends:D
What a nice thing to say...I agree I am very lucky, most of my students like me but sometimes I feel like my viewers like me more!!!...I think it's because my viewers are commenting because they are actually looking for help and when they find it and actually learn from it they are appreciative. It's just a bit frustrating when my students test grades don't reflect all the extra help I make available to them. Thank you for letting me vent...and thanks for the motivating words:)
Summer school is fast paced for sure!..I'm happy to hear that my videos got you all caught up. Please remember where to find me if you need help again and share my channel info with the rest of your class for the future:D
That's awesome news...and THANK YOU for the compliment! I do "love" teaching and TH-cam has brought it to a whole new level!

THANKS for opening a TH-cam channel just for me, I feel so special and hope you enjoy learning from ProfRobBob:) Like you, I really appreciate the support so be sure to share with your friends too!
It's always nice to hear that my passion for teaching comes thru on my videos! Thanks for watching and please continue to support my channel by liking, subscribing and sharing my channel with others:D
You literally saved my life in my Pre-Calculus class! Thank You!!
+Sofia Arellano-Herrera I can't take al the credit...after all you were the one who decided to study..BAM!!!
Thanks for watching and subbing...please share with your classmates too:D
I am not sure what you mean by the x-values changing, but the negative in front of the log function is going to reflect your graph over the x-axis.
And THANK YOU too for liking my videos and subscribing to my channel!
Extra cool! I received that hope in perfect timing. Thank you very much! For a woman going back to school after 20 years of being out, every little explanation helps.
THANK YOU for such a compliment! My wife and I are working very hard to spread the word and groW my channel, and dream to someday have a "M" next to my subscriber #! We would like to continue to keep the lessons FREE to EVERYONE because we realize that not everyone can afford individual tutoring or fit it into their busy school schedules! Thanks for watching and supporting our efforts and I hope you will spread the word about us and help us achieve our dream someday!
Your are the best. I love your teaching style and humor.
Thanks...please sub and share the love and this channel with everyone...BAM!!!
I usually save the inverse notation until I finish resolving for y^-1 but I don't really know why. I will take your suggestion and use it:)
@yasinxtype y=0 is the equation of a horizontal line, not a vertical line/asymptote.
This video has brought me hope, in myself and in my grades. Thank you for sharing.
You're welcome Honeydrizzo ...thanks for watching, liking and learning that there is hope and an abundance of help for students if they are willing to put in the time to find it...nice job of doing that!
"If you BELIEVE in yourself ANYTHING is possible" ...follow your dreams, believe in yourself and never give up!
Happy to help and thank you for subscribing!
You are the best math teacher ever! I love your intros!
ima bout to be a freshman and i learned geometry and almost finished with algebra 2, and it took Mr. Tarrou to clarify many topics and he explained them with such elegance, thank u so very much bc i love getting ahead
You are greatly welcome...and I LOVE hearing from self-motivated students like you! Every teachers wish would be to have every classroom filled with students like yourself...BAM!!!
Keep up that awesome work ethic in life as well:)
THANK YOU! I am glad I could help. I hope you do great in your math classes...especially now:)
If your function has a negative leading coefficient, this reflects the parent function over the x axis.
Thanks for noticing...I found this writing style easier for my students to read and understand:)...and I just posted a capital cursive video per the request of some of my viewers! (love your cow photo:)
Ohmygoodness, thank you so much, sir. You have no idea how much you saved me from a world of pain. Thank you thank you thank you!!
You're welcome...you can continue to thank me by SUBSCRIBING and sharing my channel with everyone who needs free math help...BAM!!!
Thanks professor! I found this video very helpful, but it didn't completely cover all my quarrels with logarithmic graphs. I wish my math teacher was as enthusiastic and enticing as you!
GOOD LUCK ON YOUR TEST TOMORROW:D:D:D I hope you get a 100%!
you are the best by far, you should take this to the next level, there are websites that charge for crappy rush lessons...
This is the third comment i am making on ur videos cuz i am a total fan boy... But i like how you don't try to be funny or entertaining like some other professors I have had, but you are anyway! Keep up the good work Mr. Tarou.
THANKS for the appreciation and continued viewership thedissownanceyouth
You keep spreading the word and I'll keep making videos !...and remind everyone that it is helpful for my channel growth to Like, SUBSCRIBE and support the ads :)

Professor RobBob ,thank you for another exciting video/lecture on Graphing Logarithms. Graphing by plotting points is always a safe way of getting the correct Graph. Graphs can also be check with a Graphing calculator.
You're Awesome!!!
VERY GOOD explanations. I'm a mature student taking advanced functions and your videos help immensely, better instruction than my teacher's lessons! Keep up the good work, and thank you!
+savannafc you're welcome and thanks for tuning in...it's never too late to learn and I'm happy to hear that my lessons are helping you with your studies!

Well that introduction was exciting
Keep making videos!!! Your making my class easier!!!
Thanks for watching and learning Corey Crick ...don't forget to SUBSCRIBE and share my channel with your class too:D
Just watched your videos about solving and graphing logarithmic functions and equations and you may very well have saved my butt for my upcoming(Tomorrow O_O) test in my MTH130 class. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
Thanks…evidently not a common thing for a math teacher:)
You're welcome…thanks for choosing!
Based on what I teach from my books, I would just make a big t-table for that function. I don't work with questions that complicated in my classes. Sorry. Your domain will be 0 to infinity because you cannot take an even root of a negative number....that would be from the 1/2 power on the x.
Thank you so much!!!!!
I really understood the domain and Range of the log graphs. Thanks
thank you soooo much .I really appreciated that...........math is getting easier and easier ...........thanks again
why cann't math professors be like you?
I wish they are :(
See one of the things you side in one of your previous videos, which was solving the equation step by step, really helped me improve my grades. I thought i was smart enough to quick solve the equation without having any foolish mistakes, but your videos prove me wrong.
Good to see you again mu al and I'm happy to hear that you are learning new things from watching my videos. I chose to make these videos like I teach in the classroom, as a full lesson. If you already know something you can fast forward or rewind if you don't. I hope you are telling the rest of your class where to find extra help if they need it, and remind them to subscribe to help these free educational channels groW and remain FREE!
Good sensible presentation.
BAM!!!
Thanks for the speedy reply...we have friends in Eatonton and have been there many times. I too tried to send you a personal message and got an error because I was not a contact. I have my channel set up to approve ALL comments to keep it PG rated:) Do you know how she found my channel in the first place? Thanks again and I hope you keep in touch and let me know how you finish out your class:)
Thank you, Sir !
You are helping thousands!
You're welcome Ashlin S !
Thanks for choosing #ProfRobBob to learn from and subscribe to:)
Please keep sharing my channel, Like me on Facebook and together let's turn that thousands into millions...BAM!!!
Awesome video! definitely subscribing to you.
just a note:
7:54 --> the new operating system in the Ti-84 (2.53 or 2.55) allows you to use any base. Alpha F2 or Alpha F3 I believe is the menu where you can do this.
I hope you'll keep watching and soon get your quarrels to cease. Work together with your friends and as a team maybe you can all help each other figure it out...BAM!, now go do more homework:)
+ProfRobBob I still can't believe I've been using you for 3 years now. I am taking Honors Math III and am doing kind of well so far.
That's awesome...thanks for the continued support, sounds like you've had the opportunity to share my channel with thousands of students and teachers by now too...BAM!!!
Please keep sharing to help us keep growing!
Wow this clarified everything I am currently learning in my Algebra 2 class. Thank you :).
BAM!!!
Thanks for choosing my channel to learn from, like and sub to Tyler Nandalal !
Spread the word and share with your class and teacher:D
Thank you so much, I understand now!
The log test is the first thing I have ever failed. Probably because I drew all over the page in my workbook that had all of the important information about logs.
Could you please send me any information you have regarding the online course you are taking? Such as full name, email, phone# etc. I would love to talk to someone there to get some feedback on how to approach other online schools and or courses that might be willing to add my channel info as well. My wife and I are working very hard on making my channel accessible to everyone without the need to search through the hundreds of other TH-cam options. Thanks in advance for your help!
This was the most helpful video, thank you so muchh
