I've watched tons of interview with Dwight Yoakam. I learn something new every time. He is, without a doubt, one of the most knowledgeable people I know of when it comes to the history of music. Love him and listening to his interview.
newwavepop I agree, living in Nashville really gives you insight. The biz is like the wall in GOT. it eats em ep and throws them over. No development room.
I could just listen to Dwight talk all day long and of course I don't enjoy anyone singing more than Dwight He and his music has brought me through a lot of hard times Thank you Mr. Yoakam
One of the best guests ive seen here in awhile. Love to hear Dwight Yoakams stories...he knows the music/ LA history for sure. Love his stories when he first came out in LA..the clubs, the COWPUNK movement. I got a laugh about the early Bluegrass pickers...they were the true punks. People were scared in the city of these hillbillies coming out of the hills!! Thumbs up..Dwight rocks.
If you've never seen Dwight in concert, you're missing out. We saw him during his Second Heart Tour and from the time him and his band hit the stage to the moment they leave, they did not let up. Absolutely KILLED IT! Monster performance!
Hi Dwight! Love your gospel Appalachian sounds, you really can capture the Appalachian deep soul on the Kentucky Appalachia folk songs, my grandma knew thousands of folk and gospel songs by heart.
Dwight was the first live concert I ever went to! 1993, his This Time tour when he stopped at the gorge in Washington state with Pam Tillis opening. I was only 16 and what great memories and times back then. Mom was still alive and healthy as were many of my family and friends. I'm 44 now and have kids of my own that I'm extremely greatful for but how I wish I could go back in a time machine for just a day or two!
Dwight is so damn unique in country music. He completely and utterly breathed new life into country music...made traditional country sexy and exciting and proved that hard living baggage not a necessity to make the music genuine and pure! He's not just a very talented musician/singer, he's a talented actor who also studied history, which is clear in this interview. Been listening to him from the start, with the volumn turned waaaaay up...and there is no standing still when his music is playing...not in my house!
Outstanding interview. Dwight is a historian of music. I wish this interview went for another hour. And Dwight was on a roll, and Jonesy just let him go, which was great.
Great interview - truly enjoy listening to Jonesy every chance I get on KLOS. Been following DY for years. Love to hear the stories told by DY about his start with X, The Blasters, Los Lobos, etc. Love King Leg.
Dwight Yoakum is the real shit man. Love his whole trip. His records are great. Country and Western Rock n Roll Swing. And he was rock star great. Awesome
Dwight Yoakum has an incredible vocabulary, he is very well read and informed. One reason he’s a great writer. And I agree his performance in Sling Blade was outstanding. His acting in Four Christmas’ is worth mentioning too, it was just bad cinema....
❤ I Love Dwight Yoakam his music and videos sorry about Lexington Kentucky but you know the Dwight Yoakam if you had done a ice bath before your concert started you probably wouldn't have got heat exhaustion. I ❤ you Dwight Yoakam
From Wikipedia - The “Get Yer Ya Ya’s Out” cover was shot on the M6 motorway, Birmingham, England. . The photo by David Bailey, featuring Watts with guitars and bass drums hanging from the neck of a donkey, was inspired by a line in Bob Dylan's song "Visions of Johanna": "Jewels and binoculars hang from the head of the mule" (though, as mentioned, the animal in the photo is a donkey, not a mule). The band would later say "we originally wanted an elephant but settled for a donkey".[7]
I really got interested in country via The New Riders of the Purple Sage. It was a leap of faith based on the love of pedal steel. So over the years, some new country- rock, alt country, Rockabilly and cow-punk would hit my ears. In 1990, I started listening to "Guitars, Cadillacs "... I saw Dwight in 1993 with opener Suzie Boggus...great concert!
The cover of Get Yer Yayas out draws from Bob dylan's line on Visions of Johanna - "Jewels and binoculars hang from the head of the mule" and on this cover they do
Who wouldn't want to hang with Jonsey? Dwight has my full respect! The Blasters one of the top ten albums ever. Playin' guitar on the back porch there's gas in my car! Dwight's right Dave Alvin is a good guy, I met him years ago at a McDonald's in Vancouver. He was quite surprised that someone recognized him and after a short talk he put my buddy an me on the guest list at the Town Pump in Vancouver. That was '91-'92 ish.
The reason Charlie is on the LP cover is he was a monster on that recording...much more aggressive ...he is a large part of the Stones lendendary live reputation
I love Dwight. and he is intelligent and suave! love to hear him to talk music. I know Ciro's Club that he is speaking of. I know the Whiskey. would love to have met Dwight.
The only thing I know about Dwight Yoakam is he played a general in When Trumpets Fade, a very underrated movie. He's miscast in it....but a great movie.
I ❤ you Dwight Yoakam. Why on Google does I guess your management It has would you like to work with Dwight Yoakam? And then you fill out the form and submit it.
Jonesy's original idea about the cover location was right. It's by David Bailey, the British fashion photographer who took it in an abandoned military airport in London.
People think the Beatles and Stones were the first to play arenas and stadiums. That's false. Elvis was the first. He toured North America in 1957 and played nothing but arenas and stadiums.
When they return from the break at 17:40, they both are doing a little "clean-up" on camera, after their "bumps" during the break. So obvious, if you know the "body language"; and Dwight is pretty obvious about it, especially when Jones asks him how he's doing, and his answer was all "WHEE!!!!" Not much subtlety, for anyone who "knows". Been there, done that, and REALLY paid for the T-Shirt, but left it all behind in the mid-80s.
Dwight can hold his own with anyone. He’s considered “country “ but he’s got plenty of rock n roll in him. I couldn’t live a life without the Pistols but I dig Dwight and always have. People get to caught up in the record company “ Label “ thing. Music is music Rock n Roll is an attitude
Am i stupid for assuming Dwight is wearing a Stone Temple Pilots hat? Doesn't look like the band that's why im second guessing myself.... is it something else im not aware of?
STP also in the late 60's and early 70's was the name of a high powered hallucinogen. "STP stands for Serenity, Tranquillity and Peace, and is the street name of the synthetic drug DOM (2,5 Dimethoxy-4-Methylamphetamine)."
@@lemonpi3386 Mighty Joe Young needed to change their name and the only thing Scott Weiland said that stuck out from his childhood was the STP logo from there the name was launched.
I've watched tons of interview with Dwight Yoakam. I learn something new every time. He is, without a doubt, one of the most knowledgeable people I know of when it comes to the history of music. Love him and listening to his interview.
man i love when people in music actually know about music. i always feel like so few younger people playing music anymore know crap about the history.
newwavepop I agree, living in Nashville really gives you insight. The biz is like the wall in GOT. it eats em ep and throws them over. No development room.
yeah... they been saying that since the Carter family
I could just listen to Dwight talk all day long and of course I don't enjoy anyone singing more than Dwight He and his music has brought me through a lot of hard times Thank you Mr. Yoakam

I played guitar with Dwight in the early 1980..s before pete Anderson...and recorded some demos that he used in his box sets...
Thats great. Yoakum is the real deal
Dwight is a great interview,
Wish I could watch/listen to this whole interview, including the songs. 28 minutes of my day NOT wasted. Thanks Jonesy and Dwight!
You can tell Dwight just simply loves music thats why hes so great
Awesome interview. Mr Yoakam knows his stuff. Thanks Jonesy!
Hi Dwight! Love your gospel Appalachian sounds, you really can capture the Appalachian deep soul on the Kentucky Appalachia folk songs, my grandma knew thousands of folk and gospel songs by heart.
Such a great interview. Dwight is so knowledgeable and good to listen to all the information he comes out with.
I could listen to Dwight sing and talk forever..love him..so intelligent and articulate..never boring.Wow just Wow
Dwight is the encyclopedia of music , one of many reasons I like this guy
Dwight was the first live concert I ever went to! 1993, his This Time tour when he stopped at the gorge in Washington state with Pam Tillis opening. Love listening to musicians who actually love music
I LOVE this man! Blessed with such talent❤
An amazing historian of music! Amazing how the knowledge made a fantastic entertainer!
Outstanding interview. Dwight is a historian of music. I wish this interview went for another hour. And Dwight was on a roll, and Jonesy just let him go, which was great.
This is my favorite so far. I love the Jukebox but damn, Dwight has a hell of a memory, knows a shit-ton about music, and tells a helluva story.
Great interview - truly enjoy listening to Jonesy every chance I get on KLOS. Been following DY for years. Love to hear the stories told by DY about his start with X, The Blasters, Los Lobos, etc. Love King Leg.
He's one of the country greats...I'm not really into country music as such but admit he has done some great songs
Dwight totally nails the 80's music scene in LA. Saw him and Pete Andersen at LA Street Scene back in the day.
How many country legends have the knowledge and connection to punk and rock that Dwight has? None. He's a one in a million. A true living legend.
Ernest T. Bass , is this “the” Ernest T Bass? Rock thrower...
More Dwight , man can talk music. Love Jonesy’s Jukebox.
That was 30 minutes well spent, again. Dwight's a wealth of diverse knowledge and is a remarkable storyteller as he is a musician.
Awesome interview
Dwight Yoakum is the real shit man. Love his whole trip. His records are great. Country and Western Rock n Roll Swing. And he was rock star great. Awesome
Hey, he mentions Billy Zoom. Impressive.
Man Dwight knows his shit .Hes steeped in early country to the whole LA scene in the 60’s to now .
Dwight Yoakum has an incredible vocabulary, he is very well read and informed. One reason he’s a great writer. And I agree his performance in Sling Blade was outstanding. His acting in Four Christmas’ is worth mentioning too, it was just bad cinema....

That was a treat!
Saw Dwight Yoakam with X at a festival on a main street in Raleigh, NC, several years back. Wish I could relive that evening many times over.
The 'Get Your Ya Yas Out' album cover is a tribute to Bob Dylan & his song Visions Of Johanna.
"Jewels and binoculars hang from the head of a mule"
And the cover photo is Charlie near London.
thats right,dead on!
Hi Dwight Yoakam could you send Brenda Coulter 2 tickets to your next concert?.
This guy is getting me excited about checking out old country
Why does he know so much about punk? Fascinating!! This makes me want to check out old bluegrass music
Man knows his music history! Always liked him..and I'm an old LA punk!

Dwight Yoakam is one of the all time greatest
He is The Wonderful and great singers, I love the Music so match
Two real down-to-earth guys having a good talk. That is what I always like about JJ. It does seem he doesn't get so many female guests.
The cover of Get Yer Yayas out draws from Bob dylan's line on Visions of Johanna - "Jewels and binoculars hang from the head of the mule" and on this cover they do
Luv the 70s STP hat !! I wish Dwight wud make more movies!

My favorite c&w artist Willie Nelson.
I love Dwight. and he is intelligent and suave! love to hear him to talk music. I know Ciro's Club that he is speaking of. I know the Whiskey. would love to have met Dwight.
Dwight is one of the top songwriters of our era along with Jim Lauderdale and Robert Earl Keen who also does a great version of 4th of July BTW
X where a powerhouse musically superior and tighter than any of those So Cal bands,. Just miles ahead .of everyone else.
Ever see the Blasters?
Dwight was close, Billy Zoom played a Gretsch 57' sparkle silver duo jet w/ banjo tuners!! lol..true!
Legend
The only thing I know about Dwight Yoakam is he played a general in When Trumpets Fade, a very underrated movie. He's miscast in it....but a great movie.
I love Dwight Yoakam especially in Sling Blade and Panic Room. I'm much into country and rockabilly to be honest. I'm a classic rock kind of guy.
I ❤ you Dwight Yoakam. Why on Google does I guess your management
It has would you like to work with Dwight Yoakam? And then you fill out the form and submit it.
Dwight could talk underwater with a mouth full of marbles
Jonesy's original idea about the cover location was right. It's by David Bailey, the British fashion photographer who took it in an abandoned military airport in London.
Dwight is the real deal.
I had no idea he was so interesting
Impressive
The Palamino I sure do remember that club.
💝
Yeah finally someone says the Stones were not to blame for Altamount - onya Dwight.
Btw yayas are ?
I thought the pic was taken near a bridge?
Dwight Yoakam for President
That guy knows his shit. What a guest that cat could be a professor I’d bet
Someone had to tell Jonesy about Jimmy Martin. It's about time, I say.
The universal language
Red Rock West

Your a dumb ass.... dwight is clean and doesn't even drink or smoke.
Stones at Atlamont is the only Stones music I like.
KIND OF Blue, dude!
Come on Christmas...he he he. Outstanding!
Mick T and Keith's solos on Ya Ya's SFTD are just superb. The rhythm isn't that bad either.
Dwight ever getting old looking and he put on weight.but he is still so sexy looking.love watching him on stage great country entertainer
This guy so cool to hear his experiences but cow punk what about nine pound hammer he has to know of them
Next Fursday.
Dwight got a fuck in with no one noticing lol
Dwight can hold his own with anyone. He’s considered “country “ but he’s got plenty of rock n roll in him. I couldn’t live a life without the Pistols but I dig Dwight and always have. People get to caught up in the record company “ Label “ thing. Music is music Rock n Roll is an attitude

He is wearing a STOP TEENAGE PREGNANCY HAT ........ At least that is what we called it back in the 70's .
wow, dwight really knows a lot of shit
south of heaven west of hell
Arenas were built for hockey, it predates basketball.
Reg Rock Actually, Madison Square Garden and the old Boston Garden were built for boxing.
This is the guy that bullied his family in Slingblade.
well I guess ya just pick up the phone and push...9...1...1
Queen is better than the Stones. But I adore Dwight.
#doylehargraves
Yoakam ,,,, 1 of the most underrated losers of all time
Made it 1 minute in and had to turn it off. The nauseating STP hat did me in...
Am i stupid for assuming Dwight is wearing a Stone Temple Pilots hat? Doesn't look like the band that's why im second guessing myself.... is it something else im not aware of?
Oh interesting I figured it was a long shot that he was wearing a STP band hat hahaha. Thanks for the knowledge bud
oh dam well me being uninformed on STP automotive got me some legit information hahaha, thanks!
STP was a hugely popular logo in the 70s.

Lot a named roping. Not much else going on..... smh
Watching various interviews of him over the years it's like Dwight purposely tries the most ugly, unfashionable hats he can lol
