Watching this reminds me of how some people say video games are for children. Little do they know that games like this are a test of patience, problem solving, will-power, and learning physics in the game (this game is no acception to how many head injuries occurred). So yes, it was for children who were in for a long adventure. And when you think about it (and someone in the comments mentioned it) this game has close if not 100 levels for a tiny game boy game. Wow, I'm having a bad week so far so I decided to check another TAS on this channel, and even though I've noticed it existed, I always thought this wasn't going to be an impressive run. But daaamn, how wrong was I? I knew Mario would do some crazy acrobatics, but some of these levels are just insanely well done. Very tight jumping which caused for a very speedy progress. Never thought you could abuse the game mechanics this much on a old classic gameboy game. At this point, I would even say the amount of cutscenes prolly takes up more time than the run itself. But seeing those cutscenes again, watching mario breeze through the harder levels, combined with a lot of big brain moments... it was a pretty wild trip through nostalgia line and you made my evening a bit better :D Thanks for making this TAS

It sure was. The reason why it's labeled as GBC here is that's the mode that the emulator was using, and the reason for that is given in the notes accessible from the page linked to up in the description.
Okay, grabbing the key in mid air is sick and very hard to actually pull off (i only remember doing it accidentaly) but walljumping? That's just new, how does that happen?
The same way unintended walljumping happens in other games, really; hitting the wall at specific points causes the game to very, VERY briefly think the player is standing on a floor, and at THAT exact moment, jumping is possible.
I loved this game so damn hard. It came out when I was in middle school and I recall it being the reason I got yelled at for staying up late on school nights. I just had to figure out those level puzzles.
