    Back in the mid 1960's I had a 49cc cub used for/paid my newspaper route. We used a dollar bill to adjust the valves.
    "The dollar bill weighs in at 1 gram and is 0.0043 inches thick."
    Interesting side note:
    My 49cc cub could hit 55 MPH down hill 'once'.
    Just above 55 the crankshaft bent, collided with the cylinder head and the bike came to a 'very sudden stop'
    (minus many teeth on gears ... the teeth were in the bottom of the crankcase).

    To solve the lean issue due to a lack of back pressure in the new pipe can be solved by making a slip in baffle-a walk through a good hardware store will turn up something-head for the plumbing area copper pipes and end caps-I have made a few that worked good and the copper will not melt

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought about that, too. I've used steel fender washers in the past to accomplish similar tasks. I just put them at the exhaust outlet inside the head pipe to restrict flow... drill the opening to accomplish the needed backpressure. I haven't tried the copper caps before... that's an interesting twist. I wonder where I could install (and secure) the cap inside of that exhaust... hmmm... brainstorming. 👍 --QM

    Great video! That plug on your buddy’s bike got way HOT! You can see some bluing on the body of it. You mentioned going up in heat range on the plug. The heat ranges of NGK plugs are actually counterintuitive. The “6” you took out is hotter than the “7”. Looking forward to vids from the cannonball run!

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thx! Yeah, the heat ranges are counterintuitive. Higher numbers mean that they dissipate more heat into the head to run "cooler" under hotter running conditions (e.g., extended high speed operation): ngkntk.in/importance-of-heat-range/
      I think it's safe to conclude that running at or near redline for 9000+ miles probably qualifies as "extended high speed riding", as per page 144 of the owner's manual. They don't mention Cannonball Run abuse in the manual... hmm... 🤣👍 --QM

      Howdy! I don't have merch yet, but it's coming soon! What would you like to see for merch options and slogans? T-shirts, hoodies, stickers, coffee mugs, etc? Another YT subscriber suggested "Full Tilt Boogie" as a slogan because I tend to say that a lot on the small bikes. Do you have any suggestions or preferences? 😉👍 --QM

    On truing spoked wheels. As you adjust spokes (tighten some, loosen others) and get the wheel “better”, the wheel will not remain that way after some running on the road. Rechecking the wheel will show that it is probably better than when you first started, but not as good as when you stopped working the first adjustment protocol. Several iterations will get the wheel bedded in to a position that it will maintain. I’ve not experienced a “once and done” on truing spoked wheels.

    I'm surprised you're doing the valves this often.
    They rarely ever go out of spec.
    It pays having a set of feeler gauges that have the correct range.
    In 80,000 km, only once were the Valves on my Wave 125i out of spec (which has the same specs as the C125). My suspicion however is that the Thai Mechanic set it to the spec of the Previous version of the engine when he did the clearances before I moved to Australia and now do my own maintenance.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We were trying to follow the service intervals specified in the Honda owner's manual and the service manual. We found that our valves were a little bit out of spec during this service at 5K miles (8K km), but not excessively so.
      We checked the valves two more times during our 10K-mile (16K km) Scooter Cannonball Run trip in July 2021. Both bikes required slight adjustments on the exhaust valves to stay within spec (they were getting too tight, and that's bad for heat and scorched valves). Remember that we were running these engines HARD on the highways at wide-open throttle for nearly a month straight, so these weren't normal operating conditions. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    ive notice the additional gas tank in a couple of your vids. is it an off the shelf item?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, that auxiliary tank was custom fabricated by our buddy, Neil. He is a machinist and welder, so he wanted to give Adrian and me a way to haul more fuel on the Cub while keeping it retro. He's all aces! 😉👍 --QM

    Are the clutches on these wet multiplate? Subbed by the way.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the sub! The Super Cubs have two wet clutches. The first one is the centrifugal clutch on the crankshaft, and the second one is a somewhat traditional multiplate clutch pack that's attached to the transmission input shaft.
      I recently did the "oil spinner" maintenance on my Cub which requires the removal of the side cover. I recorded that process, so I'll try to edit and post that video soon. You can see a few pics of the innards here on my Instagram account: instagram.com/p/CWJyw3TLxB1/? . I'll try to post those here on YT as well. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    What are those small lights mounted to the front fork? Do you have a video about them?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are the Denali DM 2.0 driving lights: denalielectronics.com/products/dm-led-light-pods-with-datadim%E2%84%A2-technology . I don't have a specific video about them or the installation process because I was in a hurry preparing the Cub for a road trip. You can watch the video leading into that project here: th-cam.com/video/k1ri2ZEX9JI/w-d-xo.html . The first demo of the lights can be seen in the video the following morning when I hit the road: th-cam.com/video/37BTEHXWfxU/w-d-xo.html
      The LED light pods are mounted on the original reflector brackets, and I bent the brackets to clear the leg shield. The power harness is run directly to a fused connection at the battery. The on/off switch and relay is powered through a switched 12V line on the ignition switch, so they are only active when the bike is powered on via the key switch. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    I am not finding any info on Adrian's spare fuel tank. Google did not find it. Some help please.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's one of only two "Neil tanks" in existence! I have one on my Cub, and a friend of mine, Adrian, has the other one. Our buddy, Neil, custom fabricated those tanks and mounting cradles for us before we left on the 2021 Scooter Cannonball Run last year. They hold about 1.3 gallons, but they aren't plumbed into the main fuel supply. We used them as emergency fuel supplies and transfer tanks during our extended road trip. You can see it in action here: th-cam.com/video/NYjmV7FqLOM/w-d-xo.html . Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      You can reach out to KipMoto at their website to reserve a spot in the production queue: kipmoto.com/collections/trailers/products/sherpax-dual-sport-trailer . The owner, Joel, can work with you on custom mounting solutions if he doesn't already have a fitment for your bike. The Honda Super Cub and Trail 125 (CT125) have identical dimensions, so that hitch works with either bike. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the 2019 model, so my shop manual specs might not apply to your 2022 engine. Honda made slight changes to the motor for higher power and lower emissions, so the specs probably changed. I recommend searching on Helm Inc's website to see if the new shop manual is available: www.helminc.com/helm/homepage.asp . Cheers, and congrats on your new Super Cub! 😉👍 --QM

    I think the owner's manual says you don't have to adjust valves until 4000 miles, unless I'm reading it wrong. Why not wait that long?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's correct... the service schedule states 600, 4000, and every 4K miles after that. Our bikes were serviced at 600 miles, but we missed the 4000 mile service by ~1000 miles (mileage at this recording was ~5K). We completed the adjustments before our trip started, and then we checked again twice during the trip (not out of spec during both checkups). Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    • @curtgottler9961
      @curtgottler9961 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@QuasiMotard As far as I can see it DOESN'T say 600 miles, just starting at 4000 for the valve adjustment.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@curtgottler9961 The Cub's manual doesn't call for it specifically, but it's a good idea to check the valve clearances at the first 600 mile service. The PCX150 and many of Honda's other small engines do specify the 600-mile valve check interval, so I do it as a matter of course. At any rate, our odometers were sitting at 5K miles, so we were 1K past the 4K service. --QM

    Did running that 7EA spark plug damage any engine components? I want to change mine over to the 7 like you have as I have the p shooter exhaust also. Just dont want to hurt my bike.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, we don't think there is any damage to Adrian's motor. The 7EA is the plug to run for extended high-speed operation... that's the one in my Cub. Adrian was running the factory 6EA plug that doesn't dissipate as much heat, so it was running too hot. We haven't checked our plugs yet after the 2500-mile trip up to Bar Harbor... that's a task for tomorrow morning. We'll evaluate whether the engines are running too hot (lean) because of these exhausts, and we'll make fuel adjustments with the DynoJet Power Vision 3 tuner as needed. 👍 --QM

I bet if you upgraded to 2.75x17 and 3.00x17 tires with 13t sprocket it would tow really well.. I upgraded my spark plug, seat, extended rear rack, exhaust, windsheild, front and rear shocks/springs, and much more. My c125 will keep up with a ct125 no problem.

    • @tomonabudget
      @tomonabudget 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been running the colder plug on our 3 125cc bikes that have similar engines.
      My 2014 Wave 125i has managed to do 80,000km with about half of that plugs with the 7 rating.
      The last 15,000km were with the IX - Iridium version of that plug, which I recommend as they last way longer.
      In terms of engine health: The engine still had good compression and power before the gearbox input shaft bearing decided it had enough.
