    After bulldozing do you have to rehab the area as Mines do? Surely after finds that large you could afford too?

    I live in Morawa do you have any tips on where to detect. I have been thinking of following Salt River with flows past Deflector gold mine. Even out near Weelgamby lake on the Koolanooka springs road.

      +Kwame Appiah, I think that you are bit confused. Accusing Australians of being armed and genocidal seems strange when one considers that Australians have never declared war on another country, nor have they indulged in terrorism, bombing, kidnap, nuclear, biological or chemical warfare or interfered in the affairs of other countries.

    I find it amusing that so many people spew hate because of ignorance ( I'm looking at you America ). Australia is littered with gold deposits but they are mostly found in desolate and dangerous country which takes a hard breed of prospector to go out there and find it. Kudos to you Matt, good on you mate, I subscribed.

      +Maxbot Thanks for your comments Maxbot. Really appreciated. As our channel approaches 2 million hits, we do get abusive comments and most of these seem to be from individuals who appear to have difficulty with expressing themselves in a cohesive, articulate and logical way. Some resort to expletives or insults. You are correct that the common factor appears to be an ignorance of gold prospecting. There may also be some envy. Some think that we are selling or promoting a particular brand of metal detector, which is certainly not the case. Later this year we will be going on an extreme trip into an incredibly remote part of outback Australia. Even by normal Australian prospecting standards this is going right to the rugged edge. We'll be doing a lot of filming and sharing the adventure on our return. - Chris

      Mates and Gold As James Hetfield once said, Sad but True. I'd say the lion's share of TH-cam vids are 'faked' one way or another so it's refreshing to find a good, honest nuts and bolts channel like yours. Can't wait for the new expedition! Good luck!

    HI Matt. Love your videos. I am just stating out with your basic pan set up. I cant wait to get into it. Im saving up for a garret detector. were moving to kilcoy in Queensland mostly for the contry life and partly for the old goldmines. So my questions to THE MASTER (Matt) 1. When i have accumulated some gold .Who do i take it to to cash it in? Is there something I should do with what I find first.Is there ppl I should take nuggets to to get treated with the acid etc like u did in this video?
    I look forward to hearing from you and watching your videos. Cheers Glenn

    Awesome finds and great to see how the ATX works in the outback. I know most use the GPX's. At half the price of the GPX it may be the one I start with. Nuggets that size you should be getting a nice premium for them!!

    I wonder if one we're to put trailer wheels on a fan boat and blow the dust off of a area before they detect, how effective it might be in Australia.For mounding dust to stop brush fires I have heard it is the only useful method to the flash fires of the gold plains.

      Don't set your heart on an ATX. Just because we had success with one does not mean that there are not alternatives. Get some professional advice before you purchase. Even rent a detector for your next trip so that you can decide what suits you best.

    Hey buddy! I am thinking to stay 6 months at Australia to learn the English. Just for a hobby, looking for Gold with detector is a danger because snakes, Scorpions and spiders in your country? What is the investment to start and best region for that ? Thank you .

    • @matesandgold5712
      @matesandgold5712  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Henrique. Many thanks for your comments/questions. Visiting Australia is a good idea but with the current Coronavirus it is very unlikely that you will be allowed into the country. Do check the official government Australian visa website for entry conditions.
      If you are planning to go gold prospecting you need to do a lot of research and be properly equipped. You will need 4x4 transport to get you out into the bush. You will need camping an cooking equipment, plenty of water, spare fuel and food that will keep in temperatures up to 40c. Then you need to get a 'Miners Right' and find land that is not already staked or on an exploration licence.
      In terms of prospecting equipment, you will need a good metal detector (such as Minelab +AU$8,000), a pick and even a jackhammer if you find reef gold.
      Life in the bush is hard. You may spend many days without seeing anybody - not ideal if you want to learn English. Also, some of the guys in the bush speak a form of English that will not be understood even by city-dwelling Australians!
      I would strongly suggest that you book onto an organised outback gold detecting tour. It will give you an introduction but without the large cost of outfitting and equipment.
      Good luck mate!

      Mister. I really thankful that you answer me. Actually, I am studying that possibility to move me for next 2 years. First, I have to finish the college here. Well, I am reading some articles about the public land or rent a private land at Australia. When do you stay 5 or 6 hours during 3 or 4 days, what is the realistic average of gold that you can find? 3g per day?
      Is the minelab 1000 gold monster can be a great metal detector?
      And about the Coronavirus, take care yourself and your family too.Thank you!!

    What brand of metal detector would you recommend for beginners because I'm thinking about starting.

    • @matesandgold5712
      @matesandgold5712  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Annabelle Halsall Hi Annabelle, thanks for your question. Almost every brand has starter models and we're not into promoting any one brand over another. The choice of metal detectors is enormous and the decision needs to be determined by how much you want to spend, what sort of detecting you propose to do and also by the anticipated frequency of use. There is no point in overspending if you only use the machine a couple of times a year. Avoid all of the cheapo detectors in chain stores and also avoid the machines that make claims of 'remote detecting' - these models are for kids and dreamers. You need a detector that is a tool fit for purpose. As a first step, why not consider renting a detector from a reputable metal detector store? Tell them what you want it for and that you are new to the game. They will also make purchase suggestions based on your need. Remember as well, that you may be spending all day swinging the detector and that weight can be an issue during sustained use. Complex controls and high specifications do not guarantee success. Much of your success will be down to researching your sites, gaining access permissions and then putting in the time doing systematic searches. It's good hobby  but very few make a good living using a metal detector. Wishing you all the best. - Chris

      $1,500 to $2,000 usd. Be sure you know what you're getting into. A lot of people think metal detecting is going out and finding treasure every time. In fact, about 99% of what you dig up is absolute trash. I've been detecting for 3 years, and just got really serious about it this year. I have yet to find any gold at all. The nicest find I've ever had was a rare US silver dollar that is now worth about $250 usd. But that is 3 years of detecting. The people that really stick to it are the people who enjoy finding historical relics. People that get into it just to get rich, find only frustration and disappointment. I go out hoping to find a 250 year old coin... the monetary value is always nice, but the main enjoyment I get is just imagining in my head that no one has touched that coin in 250 years... Who was it? How did they lose it? What were things like the last time this coin was used in a transaction? These types of videos are great, but sometimes people just get the wrong idea what the hobby is truly about.

      +Maryland Digger Same here. I am no dunce and I have had in my possession for the time I have been prospecting, about the same time as you, a good quality MD and am yet to find any gold with it. All the gold I have found has been the old fashioned digging and sluicing, panning. I even found a rare chunk of quartz gold specimen, about 4 grams. With my MD? No mate. Panning in a dry creek bed and I searched high and low for more and nope. Not a speck. I find the most useful thing I do with my MD is scanning my tailings just to reassure myself there actually is no elusive nugget I have tossed out. Nothing. So far.

  • @jasminflower3814
    @jasminflower3814 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Could these nuggets of been found without the bulldozers taking off the topsoil? Just buy putting the detector over the ground or is the gold to deep for the detector to find?

    • @matesandgold5712
      @matesandgold5712  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jasmin W A lot depends on the size, shape and orientation of the nugget... and of course the make, model and detector settings.
      A really large nugget can be detected at greater depth than a small one. Larger nuggets are rarer than smaller ones but no prospector would want to miss out on the smaller ones.
      'Pushing' or scraping means that as each layer of a few centimetres is cleared, the chances of finding more smaller nuggets increases as the detector depth range is limited on each level of the scrape. Where the overburden/drift is thick, such as in alluvial channels, washes, dry lake beds, the depth of detector penetration may be several metres or even tens of metres short of target paydirt.
      I hope that this helps - Chris

      +Trousersnake Pliskin How did you even master human speech with a brain that small? As an Australian and a geoligist, I have no doubt about the veracity of the claims. Who cares if Garret ponied up some money; they have the one of the best consumer metal detectors in Australia along with MineLab. Every year or so, someone comes up with a monster nugget (a couple of years ago at Ballarat someone unearthed a 6.7 KG beauty in a public BBQ spot; last year an old dear using a trowel in her flower bed found a 4 or 8Kg slug, a road worker near Bendigo pissed a 2 Kg nugget into daylight on the side of a graded road). The gold police assay the find to make sure it isn't stolen and moulded/cast. Every area has it's own geochemistry that acts as a signature. WA gold commonly has a tellurium peak, Victoria becomes richer in silver from west (free milling mostly) to east and increasing in content; stibnite iron and copper (refractory).

    • @matesandgold5712
      @matesandgold5712  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      A good point.In the case of this particular video, there was no sponsorship, no back-handers and no benefits. Matt was excited about the detector because it worked well for him on this push. As he explained, the best part was the fact that it could operate near to the heavy plant. Not many detectors would ignore the spectrum of electro-radiation generated by the equipment. Few detectors would miss the large pieces of gold but would also find the many 'hot rocks'. - Chris

      +lmadden6236 The Australian outback, which covers most of the continent, is indeed beautiful. When prospecting, I never forget how lucky I am to be in the great outdoors. It's a place that few get to experience with the same level of intimacy, where the dawn is special, the birdsong, the wildlife and even the shimmering heat of the day all have their own magic. Personally, my favourite part are the evenings around the camp-fire with diamond-glittering stars set into a deep velvet night sky as meteors streak across the heavens. Sharing a beer, exchanging prospecting stories and enjoying a meal cooked on the fire is memorable. No internet, mobiles or worries. Good times. - Chris

      +Mates and Gold You are definitely blessed my friend! I'm from the states as you may already know. Where I live is kind of country, not like your definition of country but it works... I can see the beautiful stars at night, fresh air and piece and quiet. That is pretty rare here in the states. Where I work is an hour southeast from my home and it's disgusting... Polution, noise, ingnorance, crime, over populated and crime all over. I would love to be able to see Australia in person some day! I've only been fortunate enough to travel out of my state to vacation several times and Canada is the furthest I've been out of my country but you can chuck a baseball over to Canada depending where I am. There are beautiful parts in the states but nothing like what you have. I am a fan of your cars as well... I've owened the equivalent to the Opel Omega and the Holden HSV but the American version. Keep those videos coming... It might be as close to you as I will ever get to experience.

    Don't know why people sit at home and do NOTHING, yet have all these hours to sit and critique what everybody else is or isn't doing. This guy is working an honest and legal living. Looks good on you, mate!! If I could get around and do that I would be doing it in a heartbeat. To the IDIOT below, I won't even name:
    If you've ever done metal detecting, everybody calls their MD machines by their brand names. That way we let other people know what machine we use, so they don't write 5,000 letters, "Hey, what machine are you using??" Saves us all, a whack of time. So he's telling me what works for his environment, I can make a video of me and mine, and show people what works for me. DUH!!!! Oh, and btw (by the way), what was your last take of gold when you went out?? Nothing? Didn't think so, you're so sour and bitter! You're probably sitting at home on welfare.
    So Matt, keep doing what you're doing, let the little dusters run out of air. Leave 'em on the barbie for a night! Jealousy is obviously speaking. Mates and Gold are doing a wonderful thing. Oh, and in Canada, we have the same wave, we have deer flies, black flies, mosquitos, ticks, midges, moths, all sorts of things flying around in the country. Just part of Canada! Have a beer and relax. I pay the creeps no time. Not worth it! Cat

    • @matesandgold5712
      @matesandgold5712  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +snowyowlcat Thanks Cat. In retrospect we probably overdid the comments on the benefits of the MD machine. It was new and we were really impressed with the performance and stability. To be honest, almost any cheapo detector will find big nuggets - it's the smaller ones where many detectors struggle and of course highly mineralised ground. With the introduction of each new MD, the capability and specification increases. I guess that in another 10 years we'll all be using robotic detectors that simply tell us where to go and dig! And yes, most people talk about things and never get out to do them. Mates and Gold gets out there, experiences the hardship and sometimes gets the reward. - Chris

    • @matesandgold5712

      You are guaranteed plenty of adventure. Getting rich is not an easy option but it does happen. If you are just starting out you should consider renting a metal detector rather than buying. The best ones will filter out the strong mineralisation that occurs in the goldfields. If you get a cheap detector you may be digging junk or 'hot rocks' all day but miracles can happen.

      Mates and Gold My pleasure, i only read a description when necessary, a TH-cam video shouldn't even have a description the videos should be self explaining which they are, a description to a video is only useful and necessary to those who make a movie and try to get people curious enough to buy it therefore trailers and descriptions.
      I know that you put up that fake exaggerated foto just to get views, and your writings in the description don't change that fact.

Perhaps it's envy, perhaps immature petulance born of low intelligence or bad manners? Unlike those who post, we've been out there digging in the red dust, sweating like pigs, thirsty as hell, buzzing with flies, out of touch with home and roughing it out. We don't show that on the videos but it's the reality. Finding big nuggets is rare, but when it happens it's a fat time and we wanted to share the elation and the excitement. - Chris

There are a number of websites which provide guidance on detector options and applications.Chris

      The maxi-nugget shown in the pic is "reef gold", or part thereof. I drive 2500-3000kms every season to go to WA & stay for 4mths in their winter season. (Summer reaches 45-46C) You don't purchase land, you lease or you get permissions granted. You work at this during the off season. If you want to be a "weekend warrior" just wandering around your local spots, then that's fine ... some of us prefer to have a little more commitment! Shot? You're dreaming! Surprisingly no. The team use a range of detectors including Minelab, Garrett, Fisher, Whites and XP Deus. Each detector has strengths and weaknesses. As Matt explains, this detector seems to cope well with the RF interference encountered when working near to heavy plant. This is probably not a major problem for most prospectors but can be an issue whilst ''pushing a patch'.

    • @matesandgold5712
      @matesandgold5712  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Daniel A very valid comment Daniel. For 35 years Matt and Cam worked in secrecy and did not share what they were doing. They did well with each finding more then their own body-weight in nuggets. In the last couple of years the guys started to take a few select guests on some of their trips. Whilst they are not keen to get into a massive business commitment, we produced a few short videos to help convey what these trips might be about. These proved popular on the website so we made them more accessible on TH-cam. And whilst we make it entirely clear that gold is not guaranteed on the training trips and tours, the videos give a flavour of what can happen. As mentioned in other posts, finding gold takes time, effort, research and dollars. It's not that easy and there's also an element of luckWestern Australia is a massive area and within the state there are many places where gold can be found. This is no secret and we're happy to tell the world and share our joy of finding good gold. - Chris

    • @matesandgold5712
      @matesandgold5712  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Nash Cuyo Thanks for your comment Nash. There is no such thing as a GOLD detector. When recreational metal detectors were developed in the late 1960s, they were based on military mine detector technology and essentially gave a signal over any conductive material. Over the years, the equipment has become more sophisticated and analytical but there is still not a machine on the market which can discriminate or detect specific metals. Whilst it is possible to filter out ferrous signals, non-ferrous (pure or alloys of copper, brass, tin, zinc, bronze, nickel, silver and gold) identification is still impossible to achieve. One of the joys of detecting in Australia's pristine outback is that there is very little man-made junk in the ground. This means that almost every detected signal is likely to be gold. - Chris

It's very difficult to separate fact from fiction and I'm fairly certain that there is no metal detector that can do this. - Chris

      +Pat TheHombre - A good question and one that has been asked and answered several times before. If you look carefully at the videos, you'll see that we use a range of metal detectors and have no sponsorship deals or arrangements with any one brand. If a detector works well for us, we're happy to say so but we avoid using TH-cam to bitch about detectors that do not perform well or have inherent faults. We could complain that some manufacturers hold back on features and upgrades so that they can keep tempting buyers back for each 'improved' model. This is their commercial strategy prerogative and it's not our place to criticise. Because me make our living from using detectors, we feel well-placed to provide feedback to users, potential users, vendors and even manufacturers. Sponsorship would mean that we could not give impartial advice. - Chris

      you are on the money my friend. We pegged the lease so we could push for the gold. But saying that if you are not there all the time people sneak on and go beeping. The good thing is that the gold is deep and you need to push it to get the good gold. So apart from the odd little bit the gold is safe until we push it again in a few months when It is cooler.
