Dear You was an album I picked up when I was only 15 based on a review I saw in a local magazine. I fell in love with it immediately and bought their older albums after that. I think Dear You failed because it was on Geffen who pushed it as a grunge album but it wasn't really grunge, it was a matter of bad timing.

Bravo for posting Johnny. I spy Chris Shary right up front me thinks. The last Jawbreaker shirt I own is Condition Oakland, the town I lived in almost 20 yrs while hanging out with the band at many of their shows. Love this

I argued with Blake long ago, while they were in the process of signing to a major label. I think it was at the Roxy in Hollywood.
I was right and you were wrong Blake. Glad you guys are back but that doesn't negate the more than two decades of nothing. Signing to a major killed your band. You could have been in the top tier of greatest bands that emerged from punk, up there with the Stooges and the Clash. You blew it, Blake. So sad.

      Ed Dawson bitter, jaded punk

I think you're overlooking the context in which they signed to a major label; the band was on the verge of breaking up, the major label album was an attempt to try something different to maybe save it as opposed to letting it peter out. If the choice was break up or release Dear You on a major label, I think it's pretty clear what the right choice was, as opposed to this weird fantasy you seem to be indulging in.

It was a different time. We can look back and realise that it didn't matter and we just miss the music and be excited to see them now. But, at the time the major label departure was like a knife in the heart. I saw the Whack & Blite tour and everything up to 24 Hour. I was even a promoter once. I failed. I think they made 80 bucks! They were so nice to me. I love them. This show makes me happy even though I had to work and miss it. Their songs were bitter sweet and so was their career. I hope it's more sweet than bitter from here on out.

Pretty sure both the Stooges and the Clash were on major labels
