Little berrymens b12 or sea foam and itll help those rings and cut out the smoking. Eyetalian tune up. Little 2 stroke oil in the gas will help lube up them rings and cylinders. Very awesome good job sir!
That’s a dual range hydramatic, best version of the hydramatics, much better than its predecessors till gm started getting it right again and made the th350. It’s a 4 speed no OD though. They were behind the tanks in world war 2. Once you turn the car off you place it in Reverse and a parking pawl locks it in place. Prob wouldn’t start from the button because they come with a safety neutral switch and you had it in gear. Awesome video, love to see you turn it into a driver.
Damn i didn’t realize they had a neutral safety switch back in 52? Didn’t matter anyways though, mice ate some of the wiring under the hood so that was why i had nothing at the button.
Right on, Jason. The problem with that Park arrangement, as I found out climbing Whiteface Mountain with my 53 Catalina and a sticky release emergency brake, decades ago, is that it won't engage with the engine running. And the flathead Pontiacs weren't all that eager to start when good and hot, like they get climbing a mountain. Sooo, at the scenic overlooks, don't shut it off, use the emergency brake and let it idle, then start off uphill with the brake dragging. Or shut it off and have a long look at the view while it cools down. "Those were the days!"
I’m a early 50’s car enthusiast and this 52 is pushing all the right buttons for me! It’s a beauty! I’d drive it just the way it is… With some new tires and brakes of course! NICE FIND!
Had a 48 Chevy stylmaster coupe, u fill up the master cylinder in the morning drive it all day no problems. The next morning be nothing at the brake pedal, fill it back up and be on your way
Thinking about pulling the trigger on a 54 Chieftain. This video inspired me a bit to try and restore it. Looks identical to yours, hopefully it goes well on Saturday
Another Good Vid. These Early '50 GMs have become Quite Popular & Desirable over the last 5 years + !! You won't find an oil filter - unless you remove the oil pan. No external filter, just a permanent arrangement inside the pan that removed dirt by rapidly changing the direction of oil flow. Those who were unimpressed with that setup could add their own external filter. Nice to see the old straight 8 up and running.
You definitely have some of the most important trim pieces " hood water fall trim "glad to see the old girl running, straight 8's is a torquey thing back in the day
Is this a 6v system? Looks like a generator on it. Also, that starter button may work now that it's not in 'D'. Love the channel! Can't wait to see what you do with it.
Yes it’s a 6 but i converted all the drive stuff to 12v. I figured the lights would blow out if i turned them on so i didn’t touch anything with bulbs lol
Seems like there's a way to tap a 12 volt battery on the middle to operate the instrements on six volts, while the ignition and starter works on 12 volts.
About 15 years ago I restored a 34 Pontiac with a straight 8 those things runs so smooth you can idle and down to like two hundred RPMs there no speed demon though
If i were to own a oontiac it would be a 1953 model with a straight eight motor or a 1958 pintiac bonneville stationwagon with an automatic transmission in it with a v8 motor
Bro my dad had a ‘63 GMC pickup that he put a 327 in when I was in junior high. He couldn’t get that sumbitch to run for weeks because of a bad ground! Love the channel man keep it coming.
Well the weird thing is the starter was grounded through the engine enough to turn over, but the motor wasn’t a good enough ground for the points? Super weird, i just welded a bolt to the frame to make my own ground lol
@@CaseysCustoms it was the exact same thing with his truck. It turned over with the starter and I think it even had spark just would not run at all. My dad was a pretty decent mechanic in his youth but he put the main ground to the exhaust manifold and after a while noticed it sparked from there. He moved it to the intake and the motor fired right up. He still feels like a dumbass. Lol
The patina is killer on this. Get her runnin', put new shoes on her. Then a coat of Flat Clear to protect that awesome patina. And enjoy. Those SILVER STREAK trim pieces will clean up nicely.
Add 10w30 no synthetic with new air , fuel filters, oil filters also put 89 or 91 octane gas plus grey bottle of STP Total Treatment fuel injection and carb cleaner in fuel tank too also make sure carb is clean plus fuel tank also pump work too! Plus new spark plugs also cap even rotor also points change set 25 foul gap too! Make sure thermostat plus gasket plus rad hoses and rad in not leaks too ! For Automatic Transmission add Gunk brand in black bottle of Trans-Medic in run thru plus change fluid plus filter plus gasket pan to and check condition of water pump working okay too!
Congrats on getting it running. I love the line up at the end and especially the satin blue Chevy truck. My dream truck since I was 14. But I love the satin finish.
The starter button isn't gonna work.with it in drive. Also if that car was buried in the mud chances are you just have a rusted out brake line. I'd check that before ordering new brake master cylinder which will probably be around $200+. I'd rebuild it if I were you but whatever you decide to do I'll enjoy watching it. Best of luck
Damn mice got to the wiring is my issue unfortunately, also the master cylinder was bone dry and rusted internally. I got a rebuild kit and new small hone coming this week 👍👍 and thank you!
You have a 6 volt system. You can use 12volt to first start it. You could blow all your fuses and lights. I used to own a 52 Pontiacs straight 8 automatic. They had what they called Fireball Eight, which had higher compression more horse power.
Fireball, I believe, was a Buick name, used along with Dynaflash for their overhead valve straight eights. The tops of the Buick pistons have both a round dish (for making balls of fire?) and a hump, and they (at least, the 263 cu.in. one, which I'm working on these days) have four rings - two compression and two oil. There is a series of YT videos by Hagerty showing a 263 rebuild, if you're up for a dose of nostalgia.
There is only so many things that need to work to run that old hog so if you don't have spark I always go right to the grounds. So many times I have had what looks like a perfectly fine ground and it still ends up bad. Glad you finally looked that way man keep up all the amazing videos your killing it.
Well done! The ground was what was bad on my dad's old truck and once got that fixed started right up. Those ford 300s and cockroaches will be the only things still around after the nuclear war... :)
Nice. Always easy to forget about the negative side, but it is a full half the equation. That long A** crank should make that a really smooth engine. Jealous for sure.

A 52 Pontiac should have a 6 volt system. I had a 51 and it was a 6 volt. You will burn the hell out of that system using that 12 volt battery.
