You should only have 1 male for every 5 females in your main colony. Sort them out and take all the extra males out of your breeding colony and put them in your old container and feed them off to your reptiles.
too many males and they will start to compete with each other, they will fight and tear each others wings and it will stress out the females and the colony as a whole will suffer.
I have about 28 males and 170 females I'm sure I had the perfect ratio at some point, but the males still decapitate each other. I'm guessing only the strong alfas survive.
I live in Jersey you think it's okay to leave them outside during the day time in the summer and bring them in at night since it's usually humid by me bc of lake hopatcong ?
I would reccomend get a mix off adults amd sm nymphs, the nymphs with take acouplebmonths 2 breed but once they do, you will have a strong colony, and thebadults youbstart with will keep them coming until the nymphs start to breed
Hi, how many males and females do you need to start breeding??? Oh and what size do they need to be??? I'm trying to start a colony for my juvenile beardie. Thanks.
bgarcia♥ you can start with 5 males to 15 females. I would recommend getting a starter colony and atleast 100 small if your 300. And just let it grow. The males grow wings when the are RTB, the females become extremely shiny, the dull colored ones are still unsexable "Nymphs". Each female only produces 30 babies a month so it does take time and a bunch of orange slices to get the colony reproducing rapid
bgarcia♥ they are great, the dont smell, easy and cheap to maintain, and great for reptiles, keep me posted on how it works out. I did a video update on this colony that I pull from 2 times a month
Hey I'm back!!! I started my colony yesterday. Ordered my roaches from rainbow mealworms, I recieved 15, 10 f, and 5 males. So far so good. This afternoon I came home to babies!!! I think I got about 26 babies.
It's also important to mention that the probability of the realness of what we consider to be ghosts is near zero. Many "hauntings" have been shown to have been caused by carbon monoxide poisoning and its effects on memory, perception and cognition. From a one-time "ghost hunter" and "paranormal activity" experiencer. Sorry!
Mr.Barbarian, i would just sell off over stock, 2 beardies can eat a whole lot. They don't populate as fast as you would think. 1 female makes 30 babies a month
dont worry at all. i have 3 beardies, 2 leopard geckos, and 3 tarantulas that all eat dubias, and I started with 25 females, 5 males, and about 1000 nymphs and my colonly is already almost depleted. dont worry about it getting to big.
hey, I want to start a colony and feed them to a leopard gecko, you cant feed the full size ones right? you give them the nymphs? and when will I know when I have enough roaches to start feeding off the young ones?
reduce the temperature if it gets out of hand or sell them. another good idea is to feed the adult females which lay the eggs, then you will have to wait a couple months.

That way slow them down, but personally I would just feed off males

cody lefler why
It's said to be better for the colony and you get better breeding results with the "perfect" male female ratio.
too many males and they will start to compete with each other, they will fight and tear each others wings and it will stress out the females and the colony as a whole will suffer.
cody lefler not sure if I would do that, little changes slow down breeding numbers, keep it simple, hot humid and lots of creams and food
