Obviously difficult because she was deaf and blind but that's what made it impressive. Soup Emporium has a excellent video about Helen Keller that explains how she achieved what she did.

Hey guys, I normally don’t comment and I’m sorry to be that guy but I really feel like you might have fallen for some pretty insidious propaganda with the Hellen Keller section. Hellen Keller was an accomplished writer, speaker, and activist. Much of what she’s done including the plane thing have been ridiculed on a frankly pretty ableist basis since she was alive, primarily to discount her strong anti capitalist and anti totalitarian beliefs and work. Many deaf blind people other than her just exist and communicate and even hold jobs in the world the same way other disabled people do. Yes they face challenges but like most disabled people they face them as normal people every day and still have lives and hobbies and goals. I know that it was likely in good fun, but knowing the background of Keller and her extremely vocal detractors, that section really rubbed me the wrong way and I ended up having to skip past it. If you’re interested in more about the history of Keller and her work I would recommend the soup emporium video on the topic as it’s an excellent summary! Again I really hope this doesn’t come off as just pointless criticism, Im genuinely a huge fan of you guys and that’s the only reason I would take the time to write all this out 😅 it just really felt off for a pod that’s usually such a safe space for people with disabilities of all types. Also, flying a plane is actually not that hard, in some states you can actually get a private pilot license before you can get a regular driving license lol
The whole thing is that when someone says “*insert person name here* flew a plane” the thought will be a person fully taking off, flying, and landing a plane by themself (because that’s normally what it means!). So while it it uninformed when people laugh at Helen Keller flying a plane, it’s not typically malicious if they don’t have CONTEXT. As we here know, the context is that she took the controls for a period of time during an ongoing small plane craft flight (impressive, and also inspirational that she followed her ambition to do so with all the set backs she faced, as well as planes being pretty new and scary at the time). Also, they definitely did not have all of the operating features (even power steering, where the turning does not take as much strength) on planes in that time so it would’ve been significantly harder. Edit here: I have since searched the exact plane she flew, and it was actually not a small private aircraft! It was a fairly large plane that had been used in WWII.
Agree that deaf blind folks live rich full lives and such but to be fair about HK, she also did very much have some pro eugenics and racist takes so I wonder if they're joking about her because she was not a great person in some key aspects. I say as a disabled person just for context. Edit: i will say ik people argue she was talking about euthanasia not eugenics but in relation to medical discrimination and the time period we're talking about, I don't believe we're considering euthanasia correctly. Haiselden was one of the fellas generating these conversations when she weighed in with the essay most frequently cited today and we're talking about a man who, having withheld a potentially life-saving surgery from a child deemed "malformed," told the family the child would've "probably grown into an imbecile and possibly a criminal.” He also removed the stitches that tied the umbilical cord of another child so they'd bleed to death. We're talking about a time when autism would've been enough grounds for deprivation of liberty and medical experimentation.
@@RealElongatedMuskratHey! Fellow disabled person here. I get what you’re saying. Helen Keller for sure said some questionable things and we’re right to talk about it. However, joking about or genuinely believing she couldn’t have accomplished the things she did comes from a place of ableism. When someone makes a joke related to an individual being disabled, trans, black, etc. with the excuse that the individual is a “bad” person, the joke is not about the individual anymore. It becomes a joke about the minority group they fall under. Jordan and Jarvis tend to be aware of this and will only criticize the actions of an individual, not characteristics irrelevant to the situation.
my incredibly non-whimsical buzzkill advice for Jordan is to leave the katana woman alone entirely or just introduce yourself formally to all your neighbors at once, because every time I've been in an apartment/condo living situation with limited private indoor space, the second I (as a woman in my early 20s at the time) would step outside to try and practice a physical skill for exercise or fun, I'd have an unfamiliar male neighbor appear out of the woodwork to watch me and offer running commentary/jokes and criticism until I gave up and went back inside. I never felt comfortable lingering in the communal areas or out on my porch/balcony for anything but quick household chores because of this. obviously the katana thing is unusual and maybe she does want to be noticed! but just general advice to guys, please be SO normal when it comes to approaching unfamiliar women you notice in publicly-visible areas of a private or semi-private residence, especially if you also live nearby.

bbno$ seems so genuinely cool. I'm so used to seeing artists go on podcasts and seem like they couldn't give less of a shit about anything beyond promoting their projects and brand.
That shit about 7g mushroom trips in a dark room with friends brought back flashbacks for me. My friends and I did mere 3.5g trips and were basically floating through space. I also had a few bad trips and developed an anxiety disorder out of it. It always amazes me that some people's minds are so well-structured that they can handle the intensity that comes with such high doses.
i love this podcast but it’s so fucking depressing to imply hellen keller couldn’t have flown a plane *directly after* an episode making fun of conspiracy theories. hellen keller was a fully conscious human being with 1. the ability to communicate and 2. move her body. any average person flying a plane just looks like the pilot taking off, giving the controls over to the passenger and telling them what buttons to press, and taking over again for the landing. there is nothing about that that wouldn’t be possible for a blind deaf person to do. soup emporium did a great video on it, and gets across how insane of a conspiracy theory it genuinely is much better than i can. i highly recommend anyone reading this checks it out. he debunks what jordan said so fast it’s almost impressive the conspiracy theory even took off, especially to the degree that gets someone as usually conscientious as jordan to say it and for jarvis to not say anything.
@denkinoms even if they were (they weren't, not 100%), those jokes still do harm. those jokes make people think that disabled people are incapable of anything so accommodations aren't necessary. I see the effects of these opinions DAILY as a disabled person
Just sitting at my desk job, at small town electric engineering company, silently screaming to myself while listening to the first 30 minutes of this episode
You ever get so excited for something that you just need to back away and come back later when you can give it your undivided attention to even think about it?
80 years of age isn't crazy back then. The reason average lifespan was so low, back then, was due to child mortality. This is also a strong contributing factor in average lifespan in America dropping now
It's absolutely insane you bring up Tom Mcdonald bc we had a cg team hangout and a girl started UNIRONICALLY playing American flags and all of us started looking at each other... she is.. something and was like tell us about how controversial she is but how she likes him?? It was so awkward
The weird Helen Keller dissing was a not a great part of the episode. Just buying into strange ableist theories. read about what happened if you don’t think she did it to understand how it worked instead of randomly stating that you think it’s a lie guys 🤷♀️
hey, have been a big fan of you guys for ages but something jordan said early into the episode rubbed me the wrong way a little bit. a lot of people try to discredit Helen Keller and what she did (flying a plane) by virtue of the fact she was disabled, when theres just. so much evidence towards the fact she DID do those things. of course she didnt do it unassisted, but the notion that its simply impossible gives the impression that disabled people are incompetent, even with help. Obviously jordan is not the only person to ever say this, especially lightheartedly, in fact there was a trend a while back on titkok of people saying the exact same thing. its really disturbing propaganda thats been around for a while now. people who GENUINELY believe her accomplishments were fabricated say the exact same things that you guys have in the exact same tone, so even as "a joke" its almost indistinguishable from pure ableism. I think its just something to think about in the future. a lot of people disregard disabled people and talk about them/their achievements as lesser than able-bodied people, and even if you didnt /mean/ harm, that blatant ignorance can feed into this popular, harmful myth, and is still a form of ableism. its hard to counteract and take that back once its been said. it gives an impression on how you view /all/ disabled people. im a big fan of you guys and in many episodes its clear you put effort into making sure your wording is doing as little harm as possible when talking about communities outside of your own. i just think you guys should be aware of this unfortunate mindset

I live in rural Nevada, and I literally hear that werid California-phobia all the time, it's crazy how common it is when we're like an hour away from it
Loved when Eminem tried to start beef with Die Antwoord, mainly about them still working together despite being exes. They rightfully treated him like a weirdo yelling at clouds because they dared to have a healthy, close platonic friendship and be good coparents despite their relationship not working out. Like what are you even talking about, grandpa simpson?

these colabs are so unexpected; next, they're gonna get zubin sedghi on the pod or something (this hyperspecific statement definitely does not come from a place of me personally wanting him on Sad Boyz)
I am saying this knowing that you are not coming from a place of intentional ableism or maliciousness! But, I’m afraid Jordan’s comment about Helen Keller is a talking point related to extremely ableist conspiracy theories questioning Helen keller’s existence, disabilities, and accomplishments. Helen Keller flew the plane with input from others guiding her and is in fact not the only Deaf-Blind person to fly a plane. I have worked with Deaf-Blind people as a speech language pathologist and although not ill-intentioned on your part, I’ve seen this line of thought contribute to others doubting a Deaf-Blind person’s capabilities and not provide the access to learning and communication deserved. Happy disability pride month!
Glad to see other people who thought it was a little off. I know the guys aren’t coming from the same place at all as a lot of this rhetoric is, but it’s scary to see the rise of once fairly niche ableist conspiracy theories like this in everyday life.
more than a little disappointed to hear the (frankly ableist) myths about hellen keller being perpetuated here. blind deaf people exist outside of hellen keller and its weird to act as though this is like some impossible thing invented as a lie specifically for her. literally anyone can fly a plane to the extent that she did (extremely assisted and for a very brief moment). really would expect better from yall and am seriously hoping this is addressed because this rhetoric is actually extremely harmful :/
The whole thing is that when someone says “*insert person name here* flew a plane” the thought will be a person fully taking off, flying, and landing a plane by themself (because that’s normally what it means!). @@kait.theidiot i definitely was not assuming malicious intent, but its important to note that regardless of whether the "joke" is meant to be harmful or not, it *is* harmful, and its important to bring this to peoples attention. im aware jokes like that about hellen keller are extremely common and rarely from a place of genuine malice but honestly in my opinion that just makes it even more important to educate people making them. im not trying to get any of the boys here canceled or whatever i just genuinely would like to see an apology or at least an acknowledgment and for them to do better in the future
@@hornetpng I wrote this in response to another person, and I think that it clearly conveys my response, so I’m copying part of it here: I agree that even if something (in this instance, the “joke” about Helen Keller) is said due to miseducation that that does not negate the overall harm of the line of thought. For me personally, I think I want to see if in the next ep they address it. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt due to past behavior, and also avoid contributing to the rabidness of cancel culture/assuming everyone should be educated on every subject automatically (not saying whatsoever that you or anyone here is doing either of those behaviors). Thought I’d put this on while I disassociated myself to sleep but barely 18 minutes in and yall got me gigglin too much, I’ll be back
dammit I hit play again, kickin my feet laughing over hereee
Bbno$ is gonna keep on doing side quests until he takes over the world
bbno$ seems so genuinely cool.
My dad's cousin died in a gun duel. crazy world we live in
what??? thats fucking wild
i love this podcast but it’s so fucking depressing to imply hellen keller couldn’t have flown a plane *directly after* an episode making fun of conspiracy theories. hellen keller was a fully conscious human being with 1. the ability to communicate and 2. move her body. any average person flying a plane just looks like the pilot taking off, giving the controls over to the passenger and telling them what buttons to press, and taking over again for the landing. there is nothing about that that wouldn’t be possible for a blind deaf person to do. soup emporium did a great video on it, and gets across how insane of a conspiracy theory it genuinely is much better than i can. i highly recommend anyone reading this checks it out. he debunks what jordan said so fast it’s almost impressive the conspiracy theory even took off, especially to the degree that gets someone as usually conscientious as jordan to say it and for jarvis to not say anything.

I hope they touch on this in the next episode thanks for sharing this was super interesting and I'll check out that soup emporiam video
Happy disability pride month, boost
They were just joking
@denkinoms even if they were (they weren't, not 100%), those jokes still do harm. those jokes make people think that disabled people are incapable of anything so accommodations aren't necessary. I see the effects of these opinions DAILY as a disabled person
Just sitting at my desk job, at small town electric engineering company, silently screaming to myself while listening to the first 30 minutes of this episode
You ever get so excited for something that you just need to back away and come back later when you can give it your undivided attention to even think about it?
"Ms. Information" was actually a misinformative tour guide on the TV show "Hysteria!"
The crossover that finally gets it right
I KNEW this episode was coming I could feel it. I’m in sync with the it boy energy.
80 years of age isn't crazy back then. The reason average lifespan was so low, back then, was due to child mortality. This is also a strong contributing factor in average lifespan in America dropping now
Thank you! I considered commenting this but figured it would get lost.
Yeah, the fentynol epidemic has done a number on the average American lifespan because it kills tons of teens and twentysomethings
The "really quick sheathe thing" is in like every anime/manga with a Japanese swordsman in it lol
Yeah well he's clearly not an anime dude.
Flyana Boss and now bbno$?? 😭 I'm so happy
Well I was until they spent 10 minutes making fun of my home state 😅
The second Jarvis mentioned listening to music in Japanese my brain immediately was just like "KONO OMOI WO-" so I died when Jordan mentioned FMA
It's absolutely insane you bring up Tom Mcdonald bc we had a cg team hangout and a girl started UNIRONICALLY playing American flags and all of us started looking at each other... she is.. something and was like tell us about how controversial she is but how she likes him?? It was so awkward
Jordan has really improved his interviewing skills. Good job bro
I can't believe the Sad Boyz are collabing with Eminem
DID I RLLY JUST FORGET THAT MELODY
“When I popped off-“
The weird Helen Keller dissing was a not a great part of the episode. Just buying into strange ableist theories. read about what happened if you don’t think she did it to understand how it worked instead of randomly stating that you think it’s a lie guys 🤷♀️
Happy disability pride month, boost
She did it, it's just not impressive because she didn't really do much of anything. Others were in control and she symbolically flew the plane
The surprise at the fact that she was a doctor was gross too
hey, have been a big fan of you guys for ages but something jordan said early into the episode rubbed me the wrong way a little bit.
a lot of people try to discredit Helen Keller and what she did (flying a plane) by virtue of the fact she was disabled, when theres just. so much evidence towards the fact she DID do those things. of course she didnt do it unassisted, but the notion that its simply impossible gives the impression that disabled people are incompetent, even with help.

Holy yap
I love that both you guys and chuckle sandwhich came out with episodes where you doubt that Hellen Keller flew a plane on the SAME day
Need to send them the hour long video essay on Helen Keller by Soup Emporium
Hearing baby no money say 'kwassoint' is crazy
Canadian things 😂
I have the same exact situation as Jordan but this kid practices the sickest nunchuck moves I’ve ever seen
Jordan is on that simultaneous bride of Frankenstein and Jeff Goldblum look
Honestly I kind of dig it
Jordan is absolutely right....!! These small "useless" memes, these snippets if art made for fun, it's poetry. It really is
Cant wait to watch/listen to this. The episode of the official podcast with bbno$ was one of my favourites. Plus I’m always excited when a new sad boyz drops
I live in rural Nevada, and I literally hear that werid California-phobia all the time, it's crazy how common it is when we're like an hour away from it
nothing like listening to sad boyz while cleaning around the house😤💖💖
saying that leeds isnt really north baffles me
Man I wish these guys were my 3 gay dads
We need to get this message to Jordan, in Stanz’s most recent video about unpaid intern Stanz said that Jordan was the funniest.
Bbno$ is the Forrest Gump of youtube
where does jordan consistently find the lowest scoop necks known to man
the crossover more ambitious than avengers endgame
Loved when Eminem tried to start beef with Die Antwoord, mainly about them still working together despite being exes. They rightfully treated him like a weirdo yelling at clouds because they dared to have a healthy, close platonic friendship and be good coparents despite their relationship not working out. Like what are you even talking about, grandpa simpson?
emily not so kawaii with this one
can we get a part 2 ? could listen to yall talk forever
I've never seen this man on the left before but how can one be blessed with such good looks/confidence/and determination to be something? crazy.
5:00 The reason you’re not getting any brand deals is because you’re already advertising for them _for free_ . If you want a slice of the pie, you’re gonna have to make a ton of sacrifices, probably give up your entire life to become a slave to the corporation…
Jokes on those random corps, i’m not supporting them until they support this random man.
@@Halfmoonbaee FAX
the way jarvis is the only one with no gray he’s a young boy
Literally was sitting here bummed about going into work trying to hype myself up and then this gem drops. Like???? THANKS BOYZ ❤
BEST COLLAB YET!!! (im not biased)
Jarvis nailing the Bartlesville surrounding area experience growing up. We *did* drive 40min to get there and hang out with friends 😂
Why is jordan turning into bob ross, and why is it working
these colabs are so unexpected; next, they're gonna get zubin sedghi on the pod or something
(this hyperspecific statement definitely does not come from a place of me personally wanting him on Sad Boyz)
THAT would be the craziest crossover ep actually
I love how I always love the guests even when I've never seen them before
Beebee Noss and the Dual Black Bob Ross podcast? I'm in!
Just started, hoping this was recorded after he found out he lost the fortnite bag because I wanna know the story. Big fan of all involved
Easily the 3 most attractive ways to shape facial hair
The TH-cam side quest speed run is truly what I’m here for!
I love how Tom McDonald is so uninteresting that they just completely gave up on watching him to even make fun of him
they worked it out on the remix for this one 🙏🙏
It Boy has been my go-to song lately. I, too, am on Vyvanse.
Bro really is just doing every collab, love it
Okay up until This podcast, I thought Jordan was saying he wanted to die in a DOOR.

+
I've listened to it boy, but I like this guy after this, and I'm gonna find some more of his music I like
as someone who uses he/it pronouns It Boy goes extra hard 👌 This was such a cool episode!
That patreon plug at the end really got me lol I wanna know what he said 😭
I know bbno$ has been doing side quests but this one. this one. hello. hello can anybody hear me. hello?
more than a little disappointed to hear the (frankly ableist) myths about hellen keller being perpetuated here. blind deaf people exist outside of hellen keller and its weird to act as though this is like some impossible thing invented as a lie specifically for her. literally anyone can fly a plane to the extent that she did (extremely assisted and for a very brief moment). really would expect better from yall and am seriously hoping this is addressed because this rhetoric is actually extremely harmful :/
Full agree from me it made me sad to hear them say that
The whole thing is that when someone says “*insert person name here* flew a plane” the thought will be a person fully taking off, flying, and landing a plane by themself (because that’s normally what it means!).
Happy disability pride month, boost
Sorry for the long comment! I’m just hoping to be clear in what I mean/meant. (Also to note, I’m in the (invisible) disability community, not that that gives me like qualifications or anything lol)
Why is he in everything???????? Why is he here, why is he in my nightmares and outside my window

Can ya'll talk about the Cody Ko stuff? I haven't seen many creators speaking out.
Would appreciate it too. Austin Green covered it, which made me hopeful though. At least knowing he’s like 2-3 degrees of separation, maybe his speaking on it pushes others to
