In this video, I have chosen an All Blacks squad to face Fiji at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California. I’m excited to give newcomer Wallace Sititi his first start, as well as debuting Billy Proctor in the midfield. I am rotating out last week's wingers for Caleb Clarke and Emoni Narawa, but I am keeping a very experienced insurance policy in the match day 15 at fullback!
Check out my reserves, which feature another insurance policy in the form of World Rugby Player of the Year Ardie Savea, who can be injected into the game if things get hairy. Let me know if you think my selections are on point or what you would change!
Legit squad, especially with potential for the whole squad to get game time in the newbies.
Love the vibes. Thanks for watching!
Great assessment.
So agree about D. Mac. He’s a gifted player.
Awesome korero bro. Makes lots of sense churr
Thanks so much for watching! Glad you enjoyed.
Good strong line up there with some sensible justifications. Be good to see if Razor and co agree.
Very curious to see their lineup! I am thinking their props and midfield might look a little different to mine.
Love your content brother keep it up man. First vid I watched was that Cup of Dreams and found your page and made sure to subscribe this time. Great squad. Give the Chiefs boyz a run 🤙🏽
awesome!!! I’m so glad you enjoyed Cup of Dreams. I am really glad I posted it as TH-cam has given the film a new lease on life. Appreciate you subscribing and commenting. I will keep the videos up! Kia kaha
@@JulianShawofficial as for you team pick bro was pretty spot on from what was announced. I’m glad that Center combo and Cortez & DMac getting that start together. Rewarding BB to start is solid choice. Hope Sititi gets a decent amount of play time 🤙🏽
I like it. I want to see Reiko on the wing
I could see it happening if he is picked on the bench!
The only problem with that is we have good wingers who would miss out?....Narawa,Clarke,Telea or Reece?
@@Trajan2401 Let them fight it out for a position, as they should be. Ioane was the best winger in the world, but he's nowhere near being the best centre.
BB and ALB are safe as amazing impact players from bench just as good starting but as we saw last week bringing them on 2nd half sealed the deal
Wondering if the coaches might agree with you and keep them both on the bench! Actually super curious to see this team naming 🤔
Might work better starting Newell and having Williams and Tosi coming off the bench, with Tosi and Newell being the tight heads.
Proctor would probably benefit by having his Canes midfield partner beside him too
I’m picking up what you’re putting down. Jordie would provide some comfort for Proctor, tho I feel a player as seasoned as ALB could help carry Proctor through his test debut also. But your logic is sound. If the selectors decide Jordie doesn’t need a rest perhaps we go with your midfield and put ALB on the bench to replace Reiko!
Both Ofa and Tamaiti are the "play both sides" props in the AB squad I believe. I think Newell will stay one side for the foreseeable future.
The AB's def need to work on lineout Locks or far better lineout calling. None of the current squad (apart from Darry maybe) are renowned lineout targets. We have always had at least one quality lineout lock since professionalism. Jones, Jack, Williams, Whitelock and to a lesser extent Retallick. That pretty much covered the majority of the professional era. Last year was the first time where we've lost BOTH lineout options to retirement. I think Lineouts will be our achilles heel for a little while, but fully expect to have the problems solved within the year.
Apart from that, good choice of back up squad for what should be a fun game in SD.
Allowing for injuries, we are going to be able to have 3 sets of front rows. Just need someone (e.g darry) to cover as tall timber.
Fair call. So in that case I might want to re-adjust and start Newell with Williams on the bench.
i like your back row my bro.
It’s got a bit of Chiefs Mana about it 😮💨
For this match, that is the perfect team.
I just saw the actual All Blacks team and I might like it more! 🤣 but I appreciate the compliment. Go the ABs!!!
Cortez Ratima is a great call, we know what Christie brings but he rarely surprises, Narawa too is another canny choice, should be an entertaining match
I’m so pumped for the game! And tbh, since I live in the States, I’m also pumped I don’t have to stay up till midnight to watch it!
@@JulianShawofficial Great. 3.30am for this London based AB supporter!
@@rabbitss11 oof I will concede that’s even worse than my timezone! You’re a dedicated fan and I love to see it!
@@JulianShawofficial yeah thanks, I'll let you know if I see it through, my gf doubts my resolve
@@rabbitss11 How did you go?
The spine of a Rugby team are 2-8-9-10-15. Your forward pack has only 168 caps, Ardies leadership is invaluable. I like the backline but would like to see the hurricane combo of Barrett and Proctor play.
Yes, I am starting to think they will keep Jordie at 12 and go for the Wellington midfield combo to support Proctor and help his comfort levels. I concede my pack might be a little ballsy in terms of inexperience. If they’re going to start Sititi we could see Ardie moved to 7 to help him.
It's Fiji. Will be a cricket score either way
ABs played shite last 2 weeks Fiji will smash them but ABs should still win
Play Rieko on the wing.
@@mierypesado6740fiji has beaten every tier one team except ireland and new zealand? Will still need to keep the opposition in check. Will be warm? in San Diego.
Loving your picks (fingers crossed) only exception is Reiko. Weak link in the centre on defense requires jordie to cover tackle even more. Reiko have a week off. Maybe keep the spine of perofeta at 15 with dmac and ratima. Happy for super sub beauden to spring of the bench and cut everyone up.
Yes I’m wondering if they give Perofeta another chance to show his skills and have Beauden on the bench. Also starting to think they might pair Proctor with Jordie since they have so many reps together at the Canes.
Keep the same team as the england series bar a couple for consistent cohesion then bring on the subs earlier for game time,we need a top XV consistently playing before we go to Africa and play the big boys
Lets be honest, the Fiji match should be a training run, if we can't beat them, what hope do we have against France, Ireland or the Boks?
We should be able to put them away but I do think Fiji have improved dramatically in their set piece. Attacking backline play has never been an issue for them. What’s your pick for a scoreline? 🤔
@@JulianShawofficial I have no idea, really, I suspect anything under 40 will be seen as poor, the Fijians prefer to score tries rather than defend, All Blacks Lite really. They're all quite tall and less nimble so this would be a good match to practice rush defence tactics by turning them around with chips over the top.
Hard agree on the Richie peaking thing, bro is in his prime and he left to Japan. I really hope he does come back early
If he were to be back for the rugby championship in 2026 we could have some nice competition heading into 2027! He has said it’s his desire so I’m praying for it.
He never won a world cup for us he had the opportunity last year but missed the kick great players make it count when it really matters.
Nice call bro
Thanks brother. Did you see the actual team just named now. Little bit different. I dig it!
@@JulianShawofficial no I didn't bro was yr call close to yr pick
Fiji are hella SOLID!
Go the ABs ✊✊
Fiji has come a long way! Their set piece has grown a lot. The fact they beat England at Twickenham speaks volumes.
Solid team.
Nice! Thanks for watching. 🙏🏼
Not convinced about Mark Talea over Sevu Reese. Sevu shone above Talea against the English. Caleb Clarke for #11 wing.
Excited to see CC at 11. Reece was dynamite in the first test for sure.
Decent selection but I'd move Ardie to 7 and put Jacobson on the bench. Would also pair Proctor alongside Jordie and move ALB to the bench in place of Reiko. Reiko needs to find some form.
Just saw the official team today. Did you get a chance to check it out yet?
Sevu reece has nailed his spot. Telea defense is questionable. His confidence lacking with two chances to score and stopped. No high ball ability wth. Caleb has made leaps and bounds this year. Just need to find a way to keep traction when he turns those trunks( longer studs?)
I’d love to see CC get a run as he was awesome for the Blues this year. Also offers a little bit more of a pure power game. Telea’s defense is the one question mark I also have, but he sure knows how to create an opportunity on attack.
@@JulianShawofficial CC seems to have improved a lot all right, whereas Telea has not stepped up to AB level as well as hoped. I was disappointed to see Reece stepped past in the second test, I thought he was better than that, ALL the wingers need to be told in no uncertain terms that poor defence will lose them their spot.
Looks good, makes a lot of sense. Looking forward to Darry getting a run, this guy could easily end up being a regular in the 23 over this RWC cycle. I'm a bit frustrated that Ruben Love isn't around for this, I realize the squad number restricts things but this would have been an ideal opportunity to develop even more depth. All in all Fiji will be a tough game giving the opportunity for new ABs to prove themselves and then the Razor gang have the chance to run a fresh core team against the Pumas for 2 games before the Boks.
My man, you took the words out of my mouth! I feel Love would have been an excellent selection and tbh I would have picked him over Narawa in the squad.
@@JulianShawofficial Not sure but the RC squads are 36 players? If so maybe Love will be there. Jordan coming back may mean not though.
This Fijian team will provide a stronger test than England.
Based on what?
Bro we almost lost to England.
@@BertFlashman The strong England team that have been gelling for 6 months and beat Ireland this year? That England?
@mierypesado6740 first of all don't some young greenhorn upfront against fiji cause they might get brutalized with big hits and it could be career threatening
@@mierypesado6740based on Fiji beat England at twickenham and and nearly cost the upset at the WC in France (QF-against England)beat the wallabies,Georgia just last 2 weeks ago in Georgia ..
They’re mix of top 14,premiership and also Drua .
Well Goodluck!
Will you be at the game J?
I wish! Strongly considered it as I’m a West Coast guy and San Diego isn’t too far. But I have already spent my summer fun money on attending WWE SummerSlam in Cleveland!
SummerSlam - badass show no doubt
Swap 16 and 18?
I could see it!
Blackadder injury prone
Yup, it’s the biggest mark against him. All Blacks coaches seem to love him despite this!
@@JulianShawofficial Whenever I've seen him I've been impressed with his decision making, we need more rugby intelligence on the field!
@@racketman2u I agree. Huge Rugby IQ on Blacksdder! Keeping him on the field seems to be the only issue.
I feel like im the only one who feels Rieko aint that good... he just runs straight and his feet aint dynamic as someone like Mark Telea, overall pretty disappointing with his overall package given the hype he had as the next lomu and stuff, i don't know, just feel hes overhyped and not that special. Need someone else
Reiko issues are in defense as a centre, still tackles like a soft winger. Great in attack. Proctor and ALB for this weekend?
Time will tell. I am super curious to see the team they end up naming!
@@oldblack15 remember that england 2nd test game, when jordie wrapped around to rieko's left and rieko didn't offload. Just like what man come on.
@@oldblack15 Essentially bring back sonny bill or conrad who offer more than just running into the defensive line lol.
@@jacksonyap7153 or proctor. Hopefully Reiko has his work ons?
