I have mad respect for this lady to crawl in such spaces. My anxiety spikes already watching this.
I've crawled though spaces much smaller than this as an aerial/satellite engineer, I can confirm, it sucks. Especially when there's old dry rot/insulation, that stuff itches and gets on your clothes - plus it's sweaty in such small spaces. Can't have been nice for the rescuer or for the raccoons living there.
Oh you also in moist unboarded lofts have to make sure you step on the joists, otherwise you'll go through the customer's ceiling lol.

Yes, they should take them to a pet store, raccoons would be fun pets! Have seen videos on here of them. So many species are being destroyed due to removal of native areas, and even disturbing the vital path ways used.
Animals often adapt to urban areas, foxes do it here as well living in suburbia and traveling thru road drains, going to the river/warehouse to find food etc basically never seen. Once found a koala up a 5 meter tall tree in an semi industrial area of a suburb 2 km from the forest tree line, silly smooth brain high on eucalyptus walked all that way one night! They have got into serious trouble in the last 2 decades from when they where basically plague numbers! Now with fires and chlamydia they are well on their way to extinction.

Keep up the great content....really enjoy this channel. I, myself, really enjoy all the American wildlife, but particularly, when it comes to the RACCOONS. I've had two......one for nearly 14 years, and the latest, I had for 4-5 years, until he got out one stormy night, from my 20' x 20' screened-in porch, where my screen door wasn't closed all the way, and never saw him again. In any event, I have a special interest in those "masked bandits" due to their personality, traits, and inquisitiveness, among other things. Keep up this noteworthy cause.....I commend both of you for this work that you do week in and week out.

Lovely? I wonder if your attitude would change if that was your house. They have done 1000's of dollars in damage and these fools let them go and be someone elses problem. They are no being kind. This is just a devious make work project for them.
They should be humanely put down, because they will cause more damage, maybe electrical wires being chewed, causing a fire and burn someone’s house down that may even result in children dying, so basically this could be exchanging raccoon babies for human lives. They carry some pretty potent diseases too. I wouldn’t want to have to kill them though, that would be unpleasant, but it should be done.

None of you get it at all. The raccoons don’t encroach on our territory, we encroached on theirs.
They dig through our trash and we’ve provided homes for them. They don’t know human rules, they’re trying to survive.
But I agree that letting the raccoons loose in the same place presents an inevitable future problem. You can’t blame the raccoons for that, you can only blame the government, the budget, the stupidity of humans thinking they’re immune from nature while destroying it. Here’s the deal. Back in the 80’s, I worked animal rescue for the SPCA. We’d take raccoons out of attics and cellars or wherever they were a nuisance and release them far away back into the wilderness where they’re from. (Note that the “wilderness” gets further and further away as we inhabit it) You know how we did that? Simple. The budget and the economy allowed us to. Ten years before that, it was even simpler. Cheaper.
Everything got out of control because of humans. The animals didn’t change. Humans did. Now you humans expect your lives to be sterilized from nature and at the same time, cut funding for the possibility for such a ridiculous endeavor. Do you really think you can shoot your way out of this? Nope. Your great-grandparents would laugh at your cowardice and stupidity.
You’re ready with guns to defend against a human intruder who is obvious, then shocked when an animal takes comfort in your house unnoticed. Until they’ve done damage that they don’t recognize as “damage”.
There’s a wild hog infestation all across the world. Destroying farmer’s crops. Who’s fault is that? Take a wild f*cking guess. So now it’s a sport to shoot wild hogs. I don’t disagree they’re a problem and must be culled, but most go to waste to rot in fields. And then you’ll complain about the homeless problem. Guess who’s fault that is? Republicans mostly, destroying unions and destroying the middle class. Now it’s rich and poor. No inbetween. The solution to that was met during the Industrial Revolution when America was on top of the world and ignored squirrels or ate them. Now, since modern life is evermore isolated from nature, you expect nature to abide. It doesn’t.
A hundred years ago, rats could kill us off. We adjusted. We advanced. We got smarter. Now there’s MAGA cultists arguing against vaccines so apparently FOR a resurgence of Polio. Stupidity abounds in this country.
Now all there is, is whining. “I’ve worked my ass off my whole life, why isn’t it perfect?”
Google it. You’ll find no answers there. Laziness. Apathy. A false sense of “earned security”. Everything boils down to that.

Go ahead and shoot every raccoon you see on sight. They’ll be thriving in your great-grandchildren’s attics and there’ll be no team being paid to release them into the wild, because they’re BE no wild.
I love raccoons. I love all animals. They make a terrible mess sometimes. I clean it up without complaint. I feed them. They trust me like most humans couldn’t fathom. I’m richer than anyone who thinks raccoons are a problem in this world.

I live on Vancouver island bc Canada and many people think raccoons r pests to just get rid of and I disagree, they r needed in the ecosystem like all animals. To me they r so so cute like little bandits with the masks They sure make great mamas
I live in Germany and many people think the same way... I live in the country with my cats and for a while 2 racoons visited me and ate the cat food... I named them Zorro and Zora... personally I think they are very cute! Unfortunately there are many hunters around here so I hardly tell anyone ....
The only pests are humans
I also live on Vancouver Island and can never understand why people don't get the fact that WE are the ones pushing them out of the forests etc so we can build our silly houses. OUR actions are the problem and WE are the pests.
Hello - another Vancouver Islander here - I adore raccoons - have had several raccoons around for over a decade and good mama's teaching their babies how to survive. i am so upset when people trap them for no good reason....they CAN co-exist with us, - we just have to ask their permission!
I love to watch these mammas with their babies. Wild animals are far better moms than the one I had for sure. These moms will fight to protect their offspring. Mine would have pushed me out in front to protect her as her Meat Shield. Sigh.
Fantastic! We had a squirrel nest in the crawl space under our roof. By the time we discovered it the babies were born. The damage was incredible given the size of a squirrel. We don't have a resue group near us so we just let mama be til she was done raising her babies. Every day I heard her up there and cringed thinking of the damage. When babies were gone we had (costly!) repairs done and sealed up so no more critters could invade. He cut back tree branches she used to access the roof. She still lives here, but in a tree now. She comes down to eat the treats we put out.
Oh, jeez! I'm seeing bare electrical wires. I'm thinking those poor babies having that insulation in their little lungs, eyes and mouths. So thank You for rescuing them ! Good job.

You do a great job at protecting wildlife while helping humans co exist with them. If only more people understood that they have feeling too, and are only in their homes due to all the natural homes and trees being cut down. Great work, keep it up. Raccoons are beautiful creatures and I have witnessed people who hand rear orphan raccoons, and they are adorable, and become very tame and loving. We have similar issues with Brushtail possums in Australia, they are protected but many horrible humans do bad things to them when they set up residence in their roofs. I am a licensed wildlife carer and raise orphan possums and release them in the bush once old enough. Australian possums are very different to American opossums….much cuter 😂
they dont belong in cities. only solution is to kill them, not release them back outside only for it to come back into a different attic.

I love raccoons. Have fed them in my woods for 13 years and they’ve never done a single thing wrong. Very sweet, timid, cute, and grateful. Really a problem if they bore through the roof, though, rain will pour in, and the chewing of wires, also very dangerous. Those babies were so adorable. Thank you for being kind to them. They should all be moved to an area that’s densely forested so they can live in the wild.

@@momsterzz Do not feed "wild" (freeborn) animals, that's how you 8 billion strong species do it, come into their wild habitat, cut down the trees, destroy their food & shelter sources by building wall-to-wall human houses, roads, etc. & if they don't all manage to find a fragment of woods left close by w/ something to eat & a trickle of drinkable water, starve them out until they all finally die. It wont take that long.
Despite good intentions, trapping & relocating wildlife is most often a death sentence. When that raccoon climbed the 22 story building a few years back they caught her at the top & relocated her. That could have been a story with a happy ending, but it was not. That was a death sentence for a raccoon who fought so intensely for her life. They should have fed her, given her water & let her go where her home already was or give her to a rehab center. Fear of seeing that raccoon near that building again was our concern, but I don't believe they got it right or got any expert advice or perhaps not accepted it. You can look up about the relocating thing on the internet. What we humans need to do is stop stealing their sovereign land by force & violence & claim it as our own. Stop the sprawl & building. Yes, I as you, love raccoons & all other sentient beings. They are our moral equals.

Actually, where I live it is illegal to relocate them more than a certain distance. They are very location-specific and will die if moved from their usual locale. 🇨🇦💕

I was an animal control officer for the SPCA in the early 80’s. I’ve been on a few (raccoon in attic) rescues and our technique was similar to this but we had to capture the mother as well as the kits, since there was a rabies outbreak in the raccoon population at the time. But like you guys did, we’d use the kits as bait to lure the mother out of hiding. Works every time, raccoon mothers are the best!
I was the “low-crawl” specialist on our team because I was the smallest and most agile. I previously was an insulator and very familiar with insulating attics and how and where I could crawl without breaking through the ceiling. (What you were crawling through was cellulose insulation, which is a million times more forgiving than fiberglass.)
The attic I was in was considered a “low-crawl” since I had 12 inches of clearance between the ceiling joists and roof decking. So it’s technically not a crawl, it’s more like a sliding and scooting kind of travel. The plus side was that the insulation was cellulose instead of fiberglass. The down side was that if the mother raccoon attacked me, I was pretty much helpless. I was young and foolishly brave so I concentrated on the task.
I had a flashlight, come-a-long, and a burlap sack with me. I didn’t see the nest of babies or the mother until I was 25 feet into the attic. The raccoons were hiding and silent. (Spooky) A few feet more forward and I heard the inevitable growling. I shined my flashlight at the sound and saw the mother’s eyes glowing just 10 feet in front of me. Then I heard the chatter of the kits in the same place. She hadn’t run away from the nest yet. Great.
This is when I started my sweet and calm voice. “Hi sweetheart? I’m not here to hurt you or your babies, I’m here to rescue you guys.” She wasn’t convinced and growled again. I looked carefully at her face in the flashlight beam for foam around the mouth, which only might indicate advanced rabies, but she looked clean. Angry, but clean. I slid a few feet closer and she took off and paced back and forth around the perimeter of the attic just watching me and growling. I kept talking sweetly to her as I approached the babies in the nest. These kits were around 7 weeks old, eyes fully open, and they just stared at me. (4 of them)
They weren’t scared, they were more curious about this human who seems so nice. I reached my hand out and one of the kits grabbed my gloved finger. The others got bold and grabbed onto my hand as well. “Hi guys, you wanna go for a ride?”
I’d sort of befriended the kits and abandoned the burlap sack idea since it would be traumatic and it was going to snag on things. The mother had stopped growling and she’s watching for me to do something stupid like put her babies in a bag. Remember, I can’t run away from this, I’m more trapped than this raccoon is. I thought it smarter to keep the babies in her sight and unharmed so I put them one by one on my back. They chattered and stayed right there, one of them playing with my hair. The mother was maybe 10 feet away watching, so I kept my light out of her eyes so that she could see her babies on my back, not scared, but taking a backwards ride toward the attic hatch. She didn’t growl, she didn’t attack, but followed me from a safe distance. I got to the hatch and my team was waiting below holding the ladder. I climbed down the ladder with four baby raccoons clinging to my back. One asked, “You abandoned the bag in the attic again, huh?”
I smiled, “Damn right, I wouldn’t have gotten out of there alive if I hadn’t. Take the kits off my back and let’s resume the plan for the mother. She looks clean but it’s not for us to decide.”
The attic hatch was in the hallway of this house so we’d closed every door except the front door and put the babies in a transport kennel inside of a larger live-trap just below the stairs. We replaced the ladder with a ramp so the mother could run out the hatch and out the front door. Now the kits are crying for mom. Perfect. We hid in our rescue van and waited.
Within minutes, the mother was on the porch smelling and hearing where her babies were. She tentatively walked into the larger cage and we shut the door. Simple as that. She started growling again as we lifted the whole works into the van but she’s with her babies and we haven’t hurt them, so she was more confused than mad.
Back at the SPCA the mother tested clean for rabies. (I knew she would) Keeping the mother with the babies at all times was the key to our successful releases of raccoons. We drove them far away from human society where they’d definitely get in trouble again, to the woods. I loved these release trips. There’s tons of fresh creeks nearby full of crayfish and trout. They’ll be fine out here.
We parked the van, carried the caged family under a tree and opened the doors. Then drove down the road out of sight. A half hour later we went back to retrieve the empty cage. I saw no raccoons near it. They’re free. I loved that job.

When you remove the release box after its done, do you seal the holes you made with the screews?
Yes we do! We use a high grade caulk that roofers use over all the screws and any holes in the roof from our box and camera.
Giant gapping holes in the roof decking, and you're worried about a few screw holes?

I love raccoons! This company does an A+ job of getting rid of unwanted raccoons humanely, making sure to reunite mothers and babies. The box is heated, secure and safe until mother raccoon can come get her babies. Bless them for showing the rest how it's done! Bravo!💕

I love how good you are with the animals but I gotta say, if I was THIS homeowner, I would have a hard time feeling kindly given so much damage and pending repair costs (roof and electrical :-( ). I don’t think I’ve seen this much damage done by the raccoons in any of your other videos.
The fact that it was allowed to go on with probably several litters over the years is why the damage is so extensive. The homeowner may not have seen or smelled the urine collected on insulation in the ceiling. Bathrooms sometimes smell of urine. I’m surprised no family members visiting heard the babies.
We are in their territory…we decided to build amongst wildlife and wonder why they look for homes to make up for loss of habitat.

If I do something like this, then I am using a full-mask. All the dirt is not healthy and if this is some type of glass wool or rock wool, then it is really necessary to use proper equipment.

I worked at an animal control company in indiana during covid for a BRIEF time. Work I wasnt accustomed too, but nothing I couldn't handle labor wise. One day, we trapped for a racoon, and later found the babies after a call from the home owner a day later. My trainer let the babies go in the tree line behind our shop after telling me he was taking them to a rescue. They all died scattered and alone in our fucking parking lot. I came to hate him and that job after I really started looking at what we did with those animals. I only set up the live traps, but he made sure they didn't make it. He would just release the animals in the tree line behind our shop. That treeline was right next to a busy highway. This company I worked at only cared about profit and time spent on any job. When I brought up concerns, I was told that that is just life.
This video makes me feel sick knowing we could have been doing right by those animals, but laziness and greed killed them. I did what I could, but ultimately quit once I found opportunities else where for employment.

"I" "got rid of" my racoons by just waiting for them to leave naturally and then fixing the hole they got in. But I cheated and used a trail camera to learn exactly what was going on. Info in my channel. I second your statement that they are very good moms. I was really impressed by what I saw with my trail camera. So many people from older generation think they are pests and don't deserve to live in peace. I'm glad younger people don't think that way any more so much.

I wish that all living things were cared for like some people care for raccoons! Chickens, Fish, Cows, Deer, Goats, Alligators, Lambs, Pigs, Shrimp and Raccoons all deserves the love being shown in the comments! You are more likely to have health problems, pets killed, expensive Dr. bills and Property damage from a Raccoon then any other animals. This insulation material looks weird, it's probably not glass wool or rock wool. Normally there should be one or two foils to prevent heat loses, because warm air is rising up.
All the nails are dangerous too, even for humans if they have to repair or install there something.
In my state, unfortunately, trappers and removal services often have to destroy the animals they remove.
Friendly tip, keeping wildlife wild, no bird feeders, no unsecured garbage cans, no remaindrs of domestic food left out, and animals will stay out in woods and out of homes.
We have destroyed habitat. We have built massive subdivisions on the edge of, and in, their living rooms and migration routes. When it comes to wildlife conflict with humans, animals are ALWAYS the losers.

I had no idea such cute animals could make big holes in the roof. Thought squirrels made holes in the roof not raccoons! My ex neighbor had tons of squirrels in his roof!
This company sets a good example for how to remove and handle wildlife, so the babies don't get hurt or rejected by the Mom. Sometimes the Mom gets scared and leaves the babies.
