Great presentation from Steven. real joy to listen to. About one important aspect of Calculus, I come up with a quote "Divide and Rule" 🙂 but maybe someone before me also did.
~ 14:15 OMG, Someone finally pronounces James Clerk Maxwell's name properly. "Clerk" rhymes with "work", it doesn't rhyme with "park". Why do British people pronounce what we call a clerical worker, a "clerk", as if it rhymes with "park"? I'm speaking with a sales CLERK, not a sales CLARK. OK, ok, I know I'm being provincial and all, being born and raised in America, speaking what some call American English. So I don't have a problem with sales CLERKS being called CLARKS in the UK, but I am dying to know if Maxwell and his relatives pronounced their name "clark" or "clerk". Any person with knowledge of that actual answer, (or anyone who wants to make fun of the dopey American), please let me know. Are people mispronouncing Maxwell's name sometimes, often, all the time? My name is spelled "Glock". And people mispronounce it sometimes. I don't see why people couldn't be doing the same with a famous scientist's name. Dr. Strogatz pronounced it "Clerk", rhymes with "work", not "Clark", like "park". Which one is it?
