If you read the official report with accounts from the survivors, it was a total nightmare scene as the ship slowing turning over and people were falling, crawling on walls and jumping over doorway openings to avoid falling in, being crushed by eachother and furniture, trying to drag themselves upwards on railings of stairs. Then if they were lucky enough to make it out, they faced the storm and freezing temperatures - life rafts flipping over from the wind multiple times, survival suits that fell to bits when they tried to wear them. If you survived you were strong, lucky, and probably scarred for life with PTSD.
True, but you don't have to read a report to know that. Watch the documentaries where the survivors explain themselves. The report likely has some bullshit in it as they're omitting facts according to the survivors.
Yes I remember seeing the survivors on the buses afterwards and nearly everyone was a young fit male, 97% of women and children were just not strong enough to make it out, but I heard a lot of stories of people robbing people and throwing people of ladders to get out first etc ..

Everyone asks me what my biggest fear is and i always bring this exact story up. Particularly due to something i heard a guy mention on a documentary on this tragedy! The guy said "your survival rate depended on how fast you were and your location inside the ship". Which to me means that some people in the ship were automatically going to die due to their location no matter what. My fear is what those individuals had to witness leading up to their death. The thought of being trapped in the ship awake and alert while it slowly goes down absolutely terrifies me. Id like to think in my mind, that i would at least try my best to get out but of course you would never really know unless you actually were in it. Like the sounds of those stuck screaming, the ship groaning and making noise, to then lose all power and be in the pitch black just waiting for whatever is about to happen. I cant even imagine the terror they felt. Its like, you would almost rather be killed by falling objects just so you wouldn't have to go down alert with the ship if you had no way out. This is why this scenario is my biggest fear! To look at actual interior shots of the ship in this makes the story even that much more intense and sad! Rest easy to all those lost! 🙏
My biggest fear is this too. Girls simply would have no chance due to nature. They don't have the strength and people will walk over them. This is exactly what happened on the Estonia. Many women and girls simply never got to the deck because everyone walked over them. When it's everyone for themselves, as a woman you stand no chance. There were many report of looters taking jewelry off passengers, even people taking life vests off others because they didn't have any. Many of these were women, and this is the main reason 97% of women died unfortunately. Most never got out of the ship, some never got a lifevest or theirs was stolen. The few who did get to the deck didn't have a raft or lifeboat as they were taken by the much faster people. The few women who managed to hold it out and end up in the water, often died of hypothermia or were taken by the waves. There were reports of people trying to use others as a way of staying afloat in the cold water as well.... I can't imagine the fear, knowing that you stand no chance simply because you're not strong or fast enough. I myself would probably give up and try to let my last moments be as peacefull as possible, instead of dying in constant fear and panic trying to avoid getting trampled or pushed aside.
Due to the heavy list and construction of the ships interior children, women and elderly had the hardest time reaching for the stairs and dragging themselves up floor by floor...some family members had to tragically say goodbye to their sons who at least stood a chance of being able to save themselves by getting out from the ship.
The interesting thing is that a lot of survivors were from the deepest and farthest locations from the top in the bottom and front, because they were kept awake due to the heavy storm waves affecting them the most and they were also the closest to hearing the massive thuds when bow broke loose. If you were closer to the top, you might've only realized that something was wrong when the ship was already tilting close to 45 degrees, making it impossible to climb out.

some good dive video of the initial investigation some of which i have not seen released before online . good find and thanks for sharing any other dive video would be appreciated
chefjason1983 Yes this diving material must be from Swedish/Finnish navy divers diving the wreck of Estonia later on that autumn. They by the way stated that bodies were lying all over on seabend across the wreck. Still it was officially said that remains of the perished were tighty inside late M/S Estonia. More well known videomaterial inside sunken Estonia is from Jutta Rabe's year 2000 expedition divers. Water in corridors is murky and when the diver enters to a cabin there is a remain of a human corpse.
That was a surreal and a sad sight, because the ship reminded me of a lot of ships that are still sailing the Baltic Sea today, and I've travelled with them several times. Took it a huge step towards reality.
That is actually true, the older ferrys that still are sailing, are not very different from what Estonia was. (Viking Line, Silja Line and Eckerö Line at least have these kind of ferrys in the baltic) The interior is not as much 80s and 90s but sometimes not too far. Newer and bigger ones have more and fancier stuff than the older simple ones. I think they also sail kind of close from where Estonia is resting. And they also sail in bad weather too, worse than what Estonia was in, that wasn't "a real storm" by sailors, though it was rough weather. But they should not be able to sink like this, at least anymore. Rip
Those ferriies are of a different construction today!Remember ms Estona was constructed 1979! They have changed the opening that have coursed so many catastrops everywhere!Look at the newer ones.Even the ferry to Estland is safer today! The newbuilding! But it costs a lot of money to rebuild the old ships! No one vill pay if you dont get a profit?
I travelled with this ship when it used to be viking sally. I was a young kid back then. My dad took me to the spa section. I remember having a blast as there were strong swell of the sea in the indoor swimming pool due to the stormish weather. Still gives me creeps. R.I.P all who picked the wrong day for similar bathing.
@ 1:00 I believe those are the ladders the divers found where the poor people left inside tried to get to the other decks when it capsized. My heart is with them because I can’t imagine the level of sheer horror those left inside alive had to endure RIP
Still hard to believe this really happened. So very sad and wrongful to the passengers who died in a horrific way. I was almost 3 years old when Estonia sank so I dont remember anything from it, but when I started to think about it as an adult (27 now), it really struck me. The truth about this accident is still out there... RIP all the innocent victims of Estonia
I saw a dream last night where I was on a passenger ship like this and then something happened and the ship got a 90 degrees list. I was in the rear and got into watet for a while but survived and then I woke up. I wonder if I see these dreams because I've watched so many Estonia videos these past few weeks
This is the greatest video that shows what the Estonia was like in real life. The employees that worked there, so happy. The passengers, curious and excited. Professionalism, the ship is immaculate, the whole video is just nice. The uniforms are so retro, the decor, everything. This video is surreal in how real it is and little did anyone know the fate that waited for them that fateful night, I am sure some of the people We saw in the video perished that night, here they are smiling and waving and alive. RIP. Truly, RIP
My granny came from her cruise the day before... She was actually supposed to go on that ship but she was in a hurry so she got there the day before 😓 but alot of our cousins died, she told me 😣 r.i.p
It's heartbreaking to see the happy, smiling crew in the video, knowing that in all probability they endured absolute terror in their final moments of life, trapped and disorientated in the darkness of the sinking, flooding hull which moments before had been their warm, comfortable sanctuary from the freezing sea! No chance to make it to deckside, to launch a lifeboat, or to abandon ship. The victims, their families and their countrymen have all been betrayed by the deception and obstruction of the governments responsible for this vessel's safety! The supposedly official report is an absolute travesty, a willfully deceptive fabrication designed to obstruct any attempts to reach the true cause of the loss of this vessel and the 852 victims.
Yep, after the official investigation the government insisted there were no holes in the hull, they said it was completely intact...they now have egg on there face because a hole has been discovered. How the hell are they going to explain it?
@@borisjohnson2606 Easy, the hole was created when the ship hit the bottom. I could've draw that up myself and I'm far from an engineer or wreck investigator.
I was but only two years old. BTW my mother happened to be in Tallinn and saw that boat and those people who went that boat to their unexpected death. R.I.P all of them who died so 86.1 percent of those who went that boat and never came back :(
Beautiful video. Thank you. I've never seen the footage of the divers at the Baltic Bar, or of the Graham's Six Grapes Port that I think you had in another video. Are these videos available anywhere online please? I've looked, and can only find the footage of deck 6 and the bridge that's just under 2 hours. I would really love to see more of the dive footage. Thank you!
The worst the design was flawed and should never been passed fit to sail ,they even had a warning when the same happened to the sister ship but still did nothing
So sad that so many lost their lives on that dreadful journey. It was a great shock to read the conclusions of the investigation report, that the ship was a death trap. A very ugly and horrible disaster.
Every capsizing ship in the middle of the sea is a deathtrap. Up becomes down, down becomes up, left becomes right..and so on. Extremely difficult to get out a capsizing ship. And dont forget the panic everybody wants to get out at the same time.
@@DJ-tt7tq Yeah,a giant deathtrap.. Terrible.. I dont know.. As i am researching this now and last dew weeks ,years etc, it always brings me back to that.. You are inside, too many people want to get to the deck at the same time while the ship is listing more and more.. You can be strong as hell but you need luck, crazy luck to survive everything.. Even if you get up on the deck ,even if you are on its side many dangers threaten you..
@@Trust-me-I-am-a-dentist Thats correct man.. But you cannot even compare lets say Titanic and Estonia.. If i had to choose one to be on ,it would always be Titanic.. Because you had time.. You had time for everything ,even to make peace with yourself that you re gonna die eventually in a lets say 'more normal ' conditions where the ship wasnt in a such a heavy list as Estonia was.. Or on the other hand ,you had more time to escape the ship and save yourself.. Estonia was literally a 'DEATH TRAP' So so sad..
The big question is, why didn't they bring the poor people's bodies back even though they were said by the initial diving crew to bee in "good condition", well as good as a dead body can be anyway. The families surely wanted their loved ones back for a proper funeral, yet the government didn't try to reclaim them from the sea? That's pretty sus if you ask me...
Carl Eric Reintamm did arrive the promenade deck 1 till 2 minutes after the loud 2 or 3 bangs that happened between ca. kl. 01.02 or 01.05. According to JAIC the bow visor fell of the ship around kl. 01.16. So the 2-3 big bangs, water on deck 1, and the following starboard listing did happen ca. 10-15 minutes before the separation of the bow visor! That is pretty strange, because that means that the sekvens of happenings did indeed start approximum 12-15 minutes before the car ramp could have let all the water inn on the car deck. That brings the questions on why the water came in on deck 1, and why the ship listed before the ramp fell down and the visor separated from the ship !? Reintamm did see something in the water that left the ship backwards to the left app. 10 minutes before the separation of the bow visor. Assuming that Reintamm looked backwards to the left from starboard promenade deck point of view, the thing in the water most likely could have hit the starboard side of the ship before the separation of the visor, and the opening of the ramp. If Reintamm speaks truth it clearly proves without any shadow of a doubt that the specific time of the the 2-3 loud bangs, the inlet of the water on deck 1, followed by the with 30 degrees starboard listing a few minutes later, that this sekvens of events clearly happened before the separation of the visor and the downfall of the ramp........
I remember watching this documentary that actually had to my recollection recorded footage of the disaster as it unfolded. The first was a shot of a stairwell by the parking bay. You can hear a bunch of car alarms going off behind the door. This was likely and horrifically the cars being knocked against each other as they began to float. Second footage was worse. You witness perhaps the first casualty of the incident. A member of staff is knocked off his feet in the bar area and slides around the floor as the ship lists. According to the narrator (Who was apparently a survivor.) The man wasn't just unconscious. He was dead. The fall had somehow killed him instantly. This also shows the chaos of the situation with some not understanding just how serious this is becoming and still joking/cavorting as the body slides around with assorted objects being flung around.
I remember when this happened and i heard a report...i cant remember where...that people may have been trapped in air pockets, alive for a number of days. Does anybody else remember anything similar to what i have stated?
Этот паром надо поднять, а затем тщательно изучить, и я более чем уверен, версия с отрывом апарели растворится в воздухе. И вот после этого будет интересно глянуть в лица тех, кто неистово отстаивал "чисто техническую" причину крушения.
Dear swedish goverbnment. I respect you generally but: What do you want to hide if you want to build a sarcophagus around the ship and later try to forbid other countries to dive there? A country acts like that only when it has much to lose, when the truth comes to light. I tell you: one day it will come to light. And that will restore Sweden's honor.
Only citizens of the nordic countries are banned from diving there, and it is not that strange. The wreck is tomb, and you gotta show the dead some respect. But as I said, divers from other countries CAN dive there if they want, and there are plenty of videos out there of people doing so.
no one will ever really know what happened there.. Actually my mother was supposed to go on that cruise to Stockholm where we lived at that time but 5 days earlier he gave birth to my sister.. thank god
There's actually a series about MS Estonia coming out soon. It's not like a docuseries or anything it's a disaster drama and also the most expensive Finnish series ever made. It's based on the heart breaking stories of the survivors. Loads of well known Estonian, Swedish and Finnish actors/actresses in it. I hope they do the victims and relatives justice instead of hollywoodifying their agony for profit like most movies and series that are based on tragic real life events.
abderaman alzemouri The victims have dissolved in the mineral rich water by now. There is a video on youtube where divers study the wreck like two years after the accident and at one point you can see the diver pull out a human upper torso by the head and it disintegrates as he does it. The face looked like the dead marches spirits from LOTR as it disintegrated.
@Suomi Perkele! for my point of view it is disrespectful to let them like garbage inside the wreck with all the furnitures inside it is sad and the families are saying the same
@Suomi Perkele! yes but look at the sewol ferry in korea they lifted the wreck i can't understand why it is not the case for europe a developed country they had to do it in the 90s

I remember having a blast as there were strong swell of the sea in the indoor swimming pool due to the stormish weather. Still gives me creeps. R.I.P all who picked the wrong day for similar bathing.
Very good and touching video. Its very sad that I'll probably never will be able to see that ship rised up from the sea.Rest In Peace!
Great video..next year 20 years. Never forget ms Estonia..
@ 1:00 I believe those are the ladders the divers found where the poor people left inside tried to get to the other decks when it capsized. My heart is with them because I can’t imagine the level of sheer horror those left inside alive had to endure RIP
Very good, all the sights from interior. One of the best M/S Estonia-films ever. Music is a +.
I love that nostalgic designs and how people dressed on those times, its simply amazing, somethings should have never changed
Life was simpler and more comfortable back then
@@SupramanTRDagreed. People actually talked to each other, instead of having their face glued to their smartphones.
Bloody amazing footage and video. Very emotional. Great work.
I saw a dream last night where I was on a passenger ship like this and then something happened and the ship got a 90 degrees list. I was in the rear and got into watet for a while but survived and then I woke up. I wonder if I see these dreams because I've watched so many Estonia videos these past few weeks
Rest in peace. We will find out the truth. Miss you all.
The truth is the bow door opened and the ship therefore capsized.
@Checkmate
its from the impact with the seafloor when the ship sank..
Most probably..
Pure luck for granny, rip cousins

@TH-cam BOT usually, unless you survive the impact with major injuries and then die in hospital
Blythworld I see you commenting a lot on nostalgia videos. Same as me!! I’m a nostalgia addict!!
I was just writing about Estonia in my tablets notebook. It sure is sad. Someone could make a movie about her for the 20 year anniversary.
I wasnt alive when this happend but i know that this is a really big thing in estonias history :(
I was but only two years old. BTW my mother happened to be in Tallinn and saw that boat and those people who went that boat to their unexpected death. R.I.P all of them who died so 86.1 percent of those who went that boat and never came back :(
Estonia must never forget ! R I P
Aleksis Kauranne my dad is a finnish truck driver he saw the ship leave last time.
I've been on that ship - when it ran under Wasabåtarna between Umeå and Vasa.
Thank you!
If I remember correctly these videos are deleted (why??) Same thing, i also want to see the interior.
I feel that I need to say something here, but the words are just too insignificant to describe my feelings on this matter.
It was the best ship in Estonia. May they RIP.
The worst the design was flawed and should never been passed fit to sail ,they even had a warning when the same happened to the sister ship but still did nothing
my mother and my grandmother would have gone on m/s Estonia on the night she sank
I know that.
@@DJ-tt7tq
Yeah,a giant deathtrap..
@@Trust-me-I-am-a-dentist
Thats correct man..
Estonia was literally a 'DEATH TRAP'
So so sad..

Would it be possible that the bow hatch, when it was torn off, then perhaps tore the hole in the side due to a wave, for example?
No, this is denied by Estonian investigator. He had calculated the impact. RIP
rest in peace m/s estonia
Those big bangs explain the giant holes in her hull. The ones they were trying to cover up with huge bolders.
@@Trust-me-I-am-a-dentist Bolders?

Очень грустно смотреть... Жалко людей и судно... И даже не известно ради чего его утопили...
R.I.P to all those poor soul on that boat :(
I wonder if any of the people seen in this video were on that ship when it sank?
I remember when this happened and i heard a report...i cant remember where...that people may have been trapped in air pockets, alive for a number of days. Does anybody else remember anything similar to what i have stated?
Forever Estonia R.I.P

This video is very hard to watch
I travel on ferries quite often so I can imagine what it would be like
R.I.P.. LOVE YOU ALL:!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
U prob dont live in sweden so i can explain that its chaos here.
Only citizens of the nordic countries are banned from diving there, and it is not that strange. The wreck is tomb, and you gotta show the dead some respect. But as I said, divers from other countries CAN dive there if they want, and there are plenty of videos out there of people doing so.
They were trying to hide the 4x1 metre hole in the hull that has now been discovered.

My friend's cousin died there...
Rare to see a footage of Arvo Andresson, sad to know there is not much to find about Arvo, i Wonder if he had a wife, kids or something
I survived. God bless all those how died, i swore to never tell what happend, thats why i am alive.

Yes
Right-wing politics and Carl Bildt is to blame for the Estonia disaster. Estoniafyndet is a good place about the catastrophe.
Hello from Sweden 🇸🇪
I was 9 days old when this ship was made.
Is there not diving resumed on the Estonia to investigate the mysterious huge hole?
Why does everyone feel the need to add music to videos? Especially when there is original sound!
Am I the only one who watched this in 2021?
they have to raise the wreck and recover the victims
abderaman alzemouri The victims have dissolved in the mineral rich water by now. There is a video on youtube where divers study the wreck like two years after the accident and at one point you can see the diver pull out a human upper torso by the head and it disintegrates as he does it. The face looked like the dead marches spirits from LOTR as it disintegrated.
it looks strange because another ship sunk in shallow waters on lake superior and the bones are still intact nearly a century after the accident
