The pupil is the ‘gap’ where light enters the eye. The cornea focuses light onto the lens. The lens focuses light onto the retina. The retina contains receptors called rods and cones. The cones detect the colour of light, and the rods detect the light intensity.
ciliary muscles contract and relax to change the shape of the lens.
suspensory ligaments connect the ciliary muscles to the lens.
The iris is the coloured part of the eye, and this changes diameter to control the volume of light that enters the eye.
