  • The Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE) was honored to host a discussion with Sadhguru about his life experiences and the role compassion has played throughout them.
    Sadhguru is a realized yogi and mystic -- a man whose passion spills into everything he encounters. With a keen mind, balanced by a heart that knows no boundary, his presence creates an extraordinary opportunity to break through limitations into one's natural state of freedom, love and joy. Named one of India's 50 most influential people, he is a widely sought after international speaker and thought leader who conducts programs at prestigious global forums like the United Nations, World Economic Forum, MIT and the Australian Leadership Summit.

      Sadguru did say it many times. Don't wait for someone to come and change it all. It doesn't work that way. Start with yourself.

    I applaud him for his answer about India. This is the problem with westerners who look down on India. They always want all the countries to be like them. As he said, India is chaos, but we like it that way. Otherwise it would lose its spirit. Yes, there are many things that needs to be improved, that is a different matter. But we have to be careful that we don't loose that spirit while improving it. Otherwise, we would end with a developed country like US, UK with monotonous culture and would have lost our spiritual side.

      Relaxingtime4me , thanks for you insight and apperception about Bharat. India is a name given to Bharat by foreigners with their own prejudices. Bharat is the heart of mother earth and certainly heart is very special because it transforms the impure blood into life saving energy, and above all it's not phoney, it does everything silently. Thanks and love you.

      "Singing for Life
      A civilization of five millennia-a path leading back to heaven
      So rich and splendid, impressing even Gods
      Ancient wisdom-a way shown by Gods
      Modern notions and conduct are following demons
      Atheism and evolutionary theory are spreading poison
      Tradition abandoned, like a lake dried-up
      Most people are Gods incarnate, coming to await the Creator
      Returning to heaven is your true joy
      For the sake of salvation we dance, moving our hands and feet
      And play each musical note with compassion
      ’Tis the Creator who asks me to sing of salvation
      January 26, 2010, in London
      ***
      Only the Creator Can Save You
      Already in a grave calamity, yet you cannot see
      Only by returning to tradition can you be saved and washed clean
      You are harming yourself with modern notions and conduct
      The red demon deceives you with atheism and evolution
      Formation, stability, degeneration, and disintegration are laws-the cosmos is dissolving
      Humans and Gods are all in danger, no one feels secure
      Most people are Gods incarnate, coming here to take refuge
      Awaiting the Creator to renew the cosmos and save all beings
      In colossal danger, only He can save you, none can compare
      December 10, 2017"

      +rahul raj , Besides Osho was into tantric sex practices , which i really don't like . There was this article i was reading a year ago , where it mentioned sex acts that took place in Osho's ashram , that too practiced in an improper un-ritualistic manner , that the practitioners or followers were complaining about it .
      Speaking of tantric sex practices , even the worshippers of Goddess Kali & buddhist monks like Dalai Lama are into such practices ... I don't get it , like what's so special about it ?!! ... There are other paths to liberation , which would ultimately unite us with God , like Deep Meditation (Kriya Yoga) , Devotion (bhakti) and so on ... One must be sure b4 accepting someone as their guru . You don't wanna end up taking the wrong path & regret later .

      +BarbaraL Lowell I totally agree .. the core beauty of both is the same, though he has definitely learned from Osho in terms of the social and superficial outlook .. that ways it's much easier for people to accept him.. This he has adapted as his mission is a bit different from Osho .. A drop of spirituality everyone should experience!!!

      +Jac Mac his work on sex was not even 1% of what he offered. . But still people are unable to look beyond that .. and that is exactly why he had those practices, for people who are obsessed with sex, to help them see beyond !! A Guru is too big an occurrence to go by hearsay, u need to experience the before judging .. (in my humble opinion).

    It's indeed a great blessing to have Sadguru ji for our generation because what our culture has been for so many years , he is able to interprete that and share that knowledge to the world. Many gurus earlier knew this but nobody knew what they knew. But Sadguru ji has the ability to communicate to our level of understanding due to which we can understand life so much better.
    And the great thing about him is that he is making continuous efforts ( even after resistance from different forces) to make this life a pleasurable experience for all of us.
    I have no more words but all I can say is I'm immensely grateful for the wisdom that I have received from this great man.

    I think we will not be able to know what life is in its entirety, whatever we do. The more we try to know, the less we know about it. I think it is all about how we spend it. After all we will leave this life one day. So it doesn't matters whether we know it or we don't. It's all about how we experience, live and do in this world.

    I Always wondered why people get irritated in general by someone who has many questions. In my opinion it's the only way to learn and get wiser, not just the one who asks,but the one who's being asked will be challenged to look at things from another perspective.....so what's wrong with questioning everything?

    • @helloworld3934
      @helloworld3934 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      marcelia3 Like they say, every rule has an exception. Sure you should question everyone and everything except 'GURU'. At least that is what the followers/disciples tend to think

    • @mysticguy5
      @mysticguy5 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      marcelia3 That is because it gets real tiresome answering them. One needs to do adequate research, adequate reading and only when one cannot resolve the questions, then does one have the right to ask a question otherwise one is taking gross advantage of the teacher.
      Imagine a teacher surrounded by 10 people who had hundreds of questions. Incredibly emotionally tiring experience for the teacher to answer them, closer to a nightmare.
      Questioning everything- Imagine you telling a kid this is an 'A' and he saying prove it. But why can't an A be otherwise. Again a dead end for the learner. So some things have to be accepted. That is called faith.

    • @helloworld3934
      @helloworld3934 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      mysticguy5 If it gets tiresome, better not adopt self aggrandizing titles like SADHGURU. Remember, if enlightenment is your destination, the road is paved with doubts and questions.

    • @mysticguy5
      @mysticguy5 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello World SadhGuru merely means the Guru who represents the truth. Truth meaning pure consciousness. You are misrepresenting the question that +marcelia3 had asked. It was in response to SadhGurus's admission that he used to ask a lot of questions. Probably, you did not watch the video properly.
      You might do well to remind yourself many things instead of criticizing people who actually do something and stop trying to sound like you are enlightened.

    • @helloworld3934
      @helloworld3934 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      mysticguy5 just go on defining and redefining terms as it suits you. You just end up with a glossary of terms and get lost in the semantics in the process. How i represented or misrepresented marcelia3's question, let marceila say that. And finally, just like your sadhguru admission that he used to ask lot of questions, I'm doing the same, asking questions for my own sake. Questioning and critical thinking comes naturally to me. It doesn't imply anything about my personal enlightenment, nor have I made any such claims. So stop being presumptious.

      It takes a really low self esteem and a slave mentality to say that the people who killed Yeshu (Jesus) on the cross are God's chosen people.

    *When the controlling mind is out of the way and you can receive all of life, it manifests as the ultimate joy*. It is divine joy, and it is beyond any mortal pleasure possible. When you know the truth, you see the light as the Bible says; you see true life, instead of the mind illussions. It is much more than joy; the best word to describe it is bliss. When people learn the just recently revealed *ultimate Truth of Life* ( best explanation of the big picture of life) everything will follow as a result. Compassion, undestanding, equality, justice. The *truth* explains the real nature of the mind and life in general and is the key to overcome the controlling mental prison. The Mind is the real core of all the suffering, the *truth* is the key to inner healing. Google *truthcontest click on the earth icon and read the present*

      As Sadhguru mentioned, when you see a damaged finger on your hand, you fix it. I come across whole lot of damaged fingers around me but unable to fix them. He is just fixing people understanding them as his own responsibility.
      He does not only talks, talking is a very small dimension, he does a lots of work and wants people to understand that its very easy commenting on anybody but it takes a lot of work to become that anybody.

    A few splendid examples of his compassion are
    (1) his wife's controversial 'Samadhi'(?)... As per his narrations, this so-called 'enlightenment' happened in the triangular yantra making in which, he was the master controller of the yantra making and could not control it... why?...
    Even if it happened as per his narrations, why was he buried her body on fire, before her parental family reached the spot (her father lodged a complaint and an F.I.R. happened) and made the Samadhi on her ashes?... All these things are ill omens and Dur Manthara as per Hindu Sastras...
    (2) his 'famous bhakta' Smt. Bharathi (a partner of the same triangular yantra making in which the 'Samadhi' of his wife happened as per his narrations, who left everything even her husband for this man's mesmerism shared those famous bangles with him) and now returned to her husband (his patience and pain, finally got rewarded) with her son...
    This man wants to explore his life in this way.
    Everyone desires to live a good life and be happy. Desire is healthy but it becomes destructive when one has an excessive desire for something...
    Sometimes excessive desire morphs into obsession. When obsessed, they cannot stop doing something and often lose control of their lives.
    Desire is a disease. Desire means that right here and now you are not at ease, and something else in the future, if fulfilled, will bring you peace and happiness. This tension of the mind for the future is desire. Hence, whether fulfilled or not, every desire leads to suffering and misery.
    When somebody tries to fulfill/achieve all the desires in one lifetime… naturally they will be in the pool of suffering and misery…
    So, if anyone advises others ‘to have desires for all things… and achieve it’… means...
    they are in that pool of suffering and misery… and out of guilty fear… trying to pull others in that pool… so he/she has more support from such like-minded people… to hide the guilt...
    By doing this He/She feels like the ‘hero’ of such people… and has increased desires and fulfills it with ease…
    When such people’s numbers increase, he/she can act as their 'God' of them… God of hidden guiltiness…
    They will act as the embodiment of all so-called good things to hide their egoistic desires...
    But unknowingly… it is an act of digging the hell for themselves… mind becomes a machine… needs oiling… and ends up with inner/internal engineering…
    As an aftereffect… mother nature’s motherhood nature may change uncomfortable for livelihood, and humanity will suffer from this act…
    Naturally, these acts end up in big disaster… This sort of people will call 'karma phalam' as 'nonsense' to hide...
    If we really want Peace… we should get out of this destructive illusionistic way of living… the aftereffects/’Karma Phalam’… of egoistic desires…
    And try to realize our desires like the Great Saints/Maha Rishis… of our Human race… and follow the uncomplicated way of living concerning all.
    When we are in an equilibrium stage to listen to our inner voice, we can realize 'Karma Phalam/after effect of the doings'... Understanding 'karma phalam' is the Bodha/Realization. If anybody recognizes it, then they will lead a simple life... Naturally, their actions will be in tune with Nature.
    The pain of this humanity and nature happened due to the aftereffect of the uncontrolled desires of human beings...
    In this world, everybody is on a level aware of the aftereffects of our excess desire… and is trying to overcome it…
    But it is difficult due to the world of desires and struck in that…
    So, the one who can realize the aftereffects of excess desires… and try to overcome it with an uncomplicated way of living without gimmicks and roaring... only can have the change from it… this vibration naturally will vibrate the one who came for that…
    The great Path Makers of humanity says… nobody can’t change anyone without practicing it in their own life…
    So, can try to change ourselves… with deep prayer and good doings with the Grace… the Mercy… And it may inspire others… Not by advertisement and paid media backing...
    There are a lot of people with deep prayer, silently working for the upliftment of humanity and other beings…
    While plucking a leaf, they used to think twice about whether it was necessary or not… They try to lead a simple life… This ‘pulse’ we must spread by implementing it in our own life…
    The one who adopts this way of living… naturally their life will be in peace… in harmony with nature… the real yoga bhava…
    In Maha Guru's name wish to happen good things…
    ??

    "Sense" is supposed to fix the world? What is "sense"? People in China have Maoist "sense". People in America have American "sense". I think what sadhguru is proposing is that logic can fix the world, as that is universal and formalized. However, logic in and of itself can be horribly abused without ethics, like the case with Hitler and other dictators who were reasonably bright. So what Sadhguru is proposing, amounts to teaching logic and ethics, which is a great idea. However his approach is so childish I had to dislike the video. "Sense" is cultural. Logic is universal. This is literally something a child can figure out if they are given decent instruction.

    • @Steven-ux3og
      @Steven-ux3og 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      not at all.. those are just your ideas, labels and concepts which only exist in the psychological mind (subconscious mind) and what you project upon others.. the opposite is also true, being humble loving kind etc.. both are only real psychologically but not existentially..
      feelings are the just the flip side of thoughts.. as you have those ideas in your subconscious mind (taught by society, parents, school teachers, friends, etc) you then develop certain Thought patterns which inevitably generate the Feelings associated with it.. that's the simplest way of how mind works..
      like the word "rich" vs "wealthy", they refer to the same situation, but it implies different meanings and feelings for different people..
      you develop FIXED ideas in your subconscious mind, and you RECALL those ideas, for the purpose of survival & effectiveness in this world.. but the only question is, is that the ultimate reality? does that represent the truth about reality?
      it can never be.. the map of the world is never the world itself.. but your mind think it is, then you think it is..
      he is talking about deeper dimension of existence.. those who are not ready, can "believe" all sorts of ideas and concepts about reality.. such as love, humility, compassion, etc... which is actually 100% pure psychological..
      another analogy, you think you see a water glass.. but is it a water glass or just glass? but glass is made from sand.. so is it a glass or sand? but sand is made from minerals, different part of the world produce different kind of sand mix.. so which is real?
      everything you invented (human invented) is 100% conceptual and psychological.. like "glass", "water glass", "sand", "water", "H2O", etc.. but are they ultimately more real than what they simply ARE?
      when your mind starts believing psychological reality is real, that's where all the problems and human sufferings begin.. too far from the truth...

      Please do not misinterpret what Sadhguru is trying to say, which is that: There are a large group of individuals who are inspired enough by Sadhguru, that have dedicated their life to provide and bring this service to you. Do not waste THEIR lives, make it (the transformation) happen for "Yourself". What is this "transformation" that Sadhguru is imploring to make it happen to yourself? The transformation from acting out of compulsion (selfishness) to acting out of purpose (inclusiveness). Hope this helps. If not watch the talk again. Best regards.
