If visiting Matera, my top tip is not only to walk around the "Sassi", but cross the canyon, known as a "gravina", to hike around the caves and ancient rock hewn churches. People have been living hete for around 7000 years (yes, that long).

Thanks for sharing your experience, I'm delighted you enjoyed my homeland, and it made me feel somewhat nostalgic seeing you visiting the places where I used to spend my holidays when I was a kid.
I was especially glad to see you stayed in Cisternino: Valle d'Itria, the inland countryside area with Alberobello, Locorotondo, Martina Franca, that stretches down south-east until Ostuni, it's for me the best of Puglia, leaving out the accommodation costs.
I'm from Bari, been living in Munich for the last six years. I guess I will never spend my summer holidays back home in Puglia again. I will never contribute to the exploitation of the coastline, with prices going off the charts, season after season, for a laughable level of services.
We have a long way to go and a lot to learn when it comes to tourism entrepreneurial attitude. Our neighbours from across the sea, Albania and Ionian Greece, have been doing a much better job, and I'm more than happy to bring my money over there, where I don't feel ripped off as a tourist.

    • @Cr4z33_YT

@@RoRoRo862 it's actually same if even hotter.
Weather in South Italy is commonly hot (from 30 to 40 degrees Celsius) in Summer and Salento (where I live) is also wet so if you want to avoid all that you should better go from end September to end May.
Cities to visit depends on your interests? Sightviews? Monuments?

Good video, BUT you should've also pushed yourself further south in the Province of Lecce. Lecce itself is a beautiful city with its own style of baroque, which gave the city the name "Firenze del Sud", the "Florence of the south".
Also plenty of food and wine to taste in that area, wine is particularly good around Salice Salentino and Leverano.
There is also the native city of the pasticciotto you had in Bari, which is Galatina. Pasticceria Ascalone is probably the best place to eat them, but there are plenty of places in Lecce where you can eat amazing ones too (Franchini and Alvino for example).
There is also the rustico which is a puff pastry with bechamel, mozzarella and tomatoes. You can eat amazing ones at Cotognata Leccese in Lecce near the Castello di Carlo Quinto, which also has amazing cotognata, a kind of sweet made with mele cotogne (a particular kind of apple).
There are plenty of more gourmet restaurants where you can eat, like Tre Rane and Gimmi in Lecce, Cosimo Russo in Leverano.
I could go on and on and on about the amazing food you can find in the area, but the comment would get waaaayy too long ahahah
There is also Otranto, Torre dell'Orso, Porto Cesareo, Santa Cesarea Terme, Punta Prosciutto, Santa Maria di Leuca, Santa Caterina, Santa Maria al Bagno, Porto Selvaggio and a lot of other amazing places for both beaches and sightseeing. Let's not forget Gallipoli, which becomes uninhabitable in the summer, but is a gorgeous place to visit in the off season.
Hopefully you can make another video someday as you go further down the amazing Region of Puglia.

Oh I love all these suggestions and believe me I wish I could have stayed longer during that trip but that was all the time that I had and I had to pick one area to concentrate on but I have been all around Puglia on other occasions and then to all of these locations it's just I wasn't filming at the time and believe me I really think that this is one of those regions well I should say it is probably the best region with Sicily for vacation in Italy

@@ubertreiber1288 visiting down south sure is a great choice, but if you want to explore the province of Lecce I recommend you stay in Lecce at least. Bari is too far away to do a lot of stuff in the province.
For example: Santa Maria Di Leuca, the southernmost tip of the province, is 1h+ away by car from Lecce.. plus 1.5h from Bari to Lecce.. I’ll let you do the math
A lot of places in the province are not really easy to reach and take 30/40 minutes to reach

Parking in Puglia can vary from place to place. In Monopoli and Ostuni, you should be able to find parking, but it might be easier on the outskirts or in designated parking areas. Matera and Lecce are popular, so I recommend looking for parking spots early in the day, and just being patient. Always check local signs for restrictions! 🚗🇮🇹

New subscriber here! Question: what’s more worth an overnight stay (after an overnight stay in Polignano a Mare) - Ostuni or Matera? My wife and I will be staying in Bari for 2 weeks this coming late July (business trip for me) and then we are going to Polignano A Mare on July 29th overnight and cant decide where to go next on July 30th overnight. I’m sure we could visit Matera for dinner and the views one evening during our 2 weeks in Bari…so I’m leaning towards Ostuni for the overnight stay after Polignano A Mare since it’s on the way from Bari. We are then going to Sicily for 6 nights with a rental car (2 nights in Palermo, 2 nights in Cefalu, and then 2 nights in Taormina)! Then the final 2 nights in Rome before leaving Italy! Even though the nature in italy looks very beautiful, its not worth to pay the tourism mafia there 😂
