I watched this episode on DVD and was totally shocked when Venture walked into the party. I was not expecting that. It made me pay more attention and I vowed to rewatch the entire series once I was done. This episode felt more like a Monarch-centered episode and Venture was the filler. And I loved Mark Hamill as both Presto Chango and the head of the secret society.
I've got to be honest, every time I watch this episode censored I'm always disappointed, usually it's the uncensored cursing that I enjoy the most but to see Dr Mrs The Monarchs girls? Whoo boy a real treat Lemmy tell ya. Meeeooow. Although I have to say I'm kind of disappointed they put Rusty in virtual reality, we know that he can't tell fiction from reality but would it have been so hard to have a fake Illuminati eyes wide shut party for him?
The Unicorn in Captivity tapestries are recreated in the mid-80's animated movie, "The Last Unicorn" by RankinBass (yes, the Christmas Special people. They also did the original Thundercats). It is the scene during the song "The Last Unicorn" by America which plays over the opening credits. I pointed this out to my husband the first time I watched this episode. I am such a "Dean".... lol
Great review as always! Yeah, I do love this episode. The Monarch story line was amazing! The Dr. Venture story makes perfect sense, at least to me, if you think that Rusty expects to be recruited by the Ultra rich and powerful now that he is rich and perfected the teleporter. I mean that piece of kit was started by Jonas, probably finished by JJ before he abandoned it, then finished/tested by Rusty, Pete, and Billy. So of course on the cusp of ultimate power and fame, Rusty is invited to the big league but because it is Rusty, it is all in his head.
It's fitting Doc had his partner be (at least voiced) by Dr Mrs The Girlfriend Monarch in the virtual reality he got thrown into. Wonder if he got memory wiped after this?
I would say that Presto Change-O is very similar to the Marvel Comics character of Impossible Man, both being annoying green and purple imps that can change into any object. Also, the machine that Rusty is hooked up to at the end is very similar to the masturbation machine seen in George Lucas' THX-1138, both projecting the image of a woman and...pumping.
1:47 I originally saw this unicorn picture on Tumblr, and had it as a phone wallpaper for two years. Nice to see it again, though in a different context, and get some background information on it too.

I think it's funny that the heist crew just assumes The Monarch can fly while figuring him into their plans, the same way he did with Tigarrific back in season two.

And of course, all the group sex in this scene also leads my mind to swinging, (knowledge of swinger and is very much shown in previous venture lore like the key party at jonas's) so I feel like that is at least a backhanded or unintentional reference to a swinging or poly term. The guys have always shown their work in reference to other niche communities, anyway, so I feel like they chose this painting in a self aware way.
I'm honestly kind of disappointed I couldn't find this uncensored, I hopefully can get the DVD box at one day so I can have all the commentary and uncensored hilarity and surprising nudity in season 7, especially Dr Mrs the monarch and her girls, meoooow Rip Presto Change-o, Ramburgler, Tunnel vision, and copycat. I really was hoping copycat would be more of an antagonist down the line, and it was a real treat having Mark Hamill come in as presto. would have loved to see the goofy shenanigans he could have gotten into!! Would have loved to see him be Captain Sunshine's new arch enemy! . . . I wonder what happened to DotCom? Captured by OSI maybe?

I also felt like the eyes wide shut part wasn't great, it doesn't really go for the same message or point that the movie did so it feels like just a ham-fisted reference. The fact that it was all just a vr thing also felt like a cop out personally (but I guess the Illuminati existing would conflict too much in universe). And the also the way that it all seemed very personal to Dr. Venture while also decidedly not being in his head was weird, like how did the OSI decide to use Dr. Mrs. The Monarch as the Masked Lady. They could've shown that he was tripping on some drug, which isn't out of the realms of possibility (because they did that "god gas" thing) and then it would make more sense on why it seemed like something that Rusty's brain would create. (and this would match with eyes wide shut because it kind of does the "is it a dream" thing) It just doesn't work for me that Dr. Venture somehow is being tricked with just a vr headset and sex piston that he is in that situation

It would make sense if the Illuminati members were pulled from Doc's memory. If it did exist, then Hunter wouldn't confirm or deny their existences.
Hunter claims the teleporter would ruin the economy, but I reckon just wants exclusive use of the teleporter for OSI
