- Wonka did sneaky good work at the box office and was generally liked by critics and audiences alike. Its first sin was trying to hide the fact that it was a musical. Let's see the rest of them, shall we?

For Colin & and Barbra, the actors are Phil Wang & Charlotte Ritchie, who were both on Taskmaster UK (love taskmaster). Phil was on in season 7, Charlotte was season 11, leaving me with a 4 letter word, which would be gery, meaning subject to frequent and sudden changes; variable, unpredictable.
Fun fact about Charlotte, she was also in the 4th Harry Potter film.
JEREMY HAS TO SEE THIS
I knew I recognized her from somewhere (turns out it was Taskmaster) Now I'm wracking my brain on who she was in Goblet of Fire (HP 4)
Edit: I was thinking of Olivia Coleman (who played Mrs Scrubbitt) and was in neither Taskmaster UK nor Harry Potter.
And my 4 letter word is "NEEEEERRRD!"
Season 7 of Taskmaster is hands down the best season. Usually they have one contestant as chaos incarnate, but in that season they all were and it was a blast.
I still see Phil's Wang when I close my eyes at night 😂
You have to remember, the Wonka in the original spent 20 years in isolation after some of his employees betrayed him by selling his recipes to his competitors.
also have to remember this Wonka has nothing to do with the other ones, its its own movie.
@@rogusmith2630 , it is actually set up as a prequel to the Gene Wilder movie. That's why it uses so many aspects from that one, like Wonka's outfit, orange oompa loompas, etc.
@SgtSupaman the director said this is not an official prequel and should be considered a companion
I love the original but enjoy the less murdery and more wholesome version of the character
@@detective_mitch_connerBut at that point why call it a companion. It fills the perfect shoes for it to be a prequel. Especially since the oompa loompas and style of his factory is pretty much the same as Gene Wilder's version

@@zoeallen6734 that's a fair point, even so the accent would be a mix of all their accents with heavy 1800's English tones.
It's a joke, of course they couldn't expect a child to imitate an accent like that, it's difficult enough for adults with native English accents.
Although I will say the amount of American accents does genuinely make you forget this movie is set in England though, which is one of the few nit picky issues I have with the movie, wouldn't change it though, I actually loved the film through and through.

Dude, your writing and delivery on this was SUPBOERB. You are like fine wine. This will be a rewatch many times. Bravo.
When I saw the marketing for this movie I thought this was supposed to be a Willy Wonka origin story. Now I am just confused because this looks like a mash up of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Annie and Chocolat and none of it makes sense for that premise.
It is an alternate reimagining of Wonka. It isn't a prequel to the 1971 Willy where Slugworth is a different person, nor to the 2005 Charlie where Willy has a single father who is a dentist while in this one he has a single mother who explores the Amazon.
Willy Wonka: "I'm warning all of you to stop eating my products because they've been poisoned!"
Crowd: "Well then it's clearly you who did it, so we're going to destroy your hard work because no one in a movie is ever rational or sane."
It makes sense actually in a way. When people are terrified and enraged it's easy to assume violence and destruction will ensue.
Willy Wonka doesn't need a backstory - he just exists, for the purposes of the original story, as this mysterious, reclusive, eccentric, slightly sinister figure. I watched the 1971 film again this Sunday past, and that's the version I'll stick with - nothing beats it.
I don't mind Wonka having a backstory, but this isn't it. Neither was it him having a hardass dentist dad who could literally relocate a brownstone condo. If the Burton version only showed him going into the jungle to enlist the help of the Oompa Loompas, I'd have been fine with that. But they wasted Christopher Lee in the lamest way possible.
Reminds me of how Disney tried making backstories for characters like Cruella de Vil and The Mad Hatter, even though part of what made them interesting was leaving some things mysterious and unsaid. Coming up with an explanation for every little thing cheapens the whole story and this is something modern Hollywood is horrible with
eh I disagree I kinda liked this backstory even though no one asked for this film I still love this movie
I agree he doesn’t need one, but I can completely believe this, especially with the mention of the rival chocolatiers from the og film. It’s a very sweet film.
I now love both movies, and so do both of my young girls. We can love multiple things at once!

This movie was so good. They put every little detail together nicely and it wasn’t a pointless prequel or anything
im not even 5 minutes in and I'm CRYING!... i think im actually having more fun watching this than the movie itself.
Surprised you didn't mention the fact that my main man William will put actual live insects in his chocolate, allow people in the city to drink chocolate that he and a child were swimming in, and allow his friends to eat years-old chocolate that has been who knows where BUT his travel factory has hand sanitizer.
Dude, why is _this_ the moment you start caring about health and safety regulations?
It's sort of the same as the way he takes away people's free will (you can't tell me those Broadway chocolates don't), gives two people (at least) severe alcohol poisoning, steals a myriad of things: balloons, giraffes milk, clothing, and cocoa pods, but taking a pint of milk from not-plot-important characters is absolutely off the table. Why is _this_ the moment your ethics kick in?
If we stick with the premise that this took place in Vikki times, of times milk sold at that time usually had alot of crap added to it...sheep brains, unclean water, boracic acid, etc. so basically, if you didn't see or do the milking yourself, don't trust it. Hence why he didn't steal the bottles milk
The amount of people upset/surprised that this movie is a musical have not seen ANY of the Willy Wonka movies 😭😭😭
bro this is literally a prequel to the 1971 version that was also a musical so it shouldn't be that surprising unless they never saw the original
I’m going to take a wild guess and say these folks have never seen the original.
@@nellywilliams2776 probably haven't I have seen both the 1971 and 2005 version multiple times as a little girl then I saw this one at the cinema as a young adult
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory literally has "The Candy Man" within the first 2 minutes (excluding opening credits). A few different characters have full songs in it.
Granted, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory limited the songs to the Oompa Loopas (I think it's been a while, but I can't remember anyone else singing).
So I'm with you, I was pretty surprised people didn't expect it to be a musical.
I admitedly never saw the original and I can't barely remember the one with Johnny Depp so yeah...
The dentist that removed my wisdom teeth was literally named Dr Cutright
18:17 Willy and Noodle are both wearing clean clothing now though, and there isn't a drop of chocolate on them, so this clearly took place later in the day or even a few days later.
"Deus Ex Chocina" pretty much sums it up, hahaha. 😂 That was a genius dig on this travesty of a re-rebooted re-remake.

It's not a remake. It's an original origin story.

@@jgabraham4913 There's nothing "original" about it. The project was a disaster from start to finish, "chock" full of chocolate rain, and a river of slurry and sludge that is Hollywont's slushy specialty of cacao.

So I just got through rewatching the original “Beetlejuice” movie, now that the trailer for the sequel is out, and I was BEYOND shocked and disappointed that CinemaSins never did a Beetlejuice sin video. Soooo I request as a fan that you do that, especially since the sequel is just months away lol
The reason they didn't do a sin video for Beetlejuice is because you can't sin a perfect movie. It would basically be "Opening credits SKIP Oh, look! Lydia is floating! The end". Granted, they could easily tack on 100000 sins at the end for the simple fact that it took over 35 freakin' YEARS to get a sequel but that's pretty much it.
@@caseymacmacl7463
Lmao, one, the channel description says that no movie is without sin, secondly, they sin even their favorite movies that they think are legitimately great movies.
The narrator of these videos, I don’t know his name, for the Lion King sin video (the original animated movie, not the “remake”), he thinks the Lion King is a masterpiece and they still found things to sin lol.
Besides with the Beetlejuice sequel coming out this year, I think a sin video of the original movie would be great, to lead up to the sequel.
I was under the impression that Wonka was always the villain
I’m surprised the fact that “oompa loompas don’t negotiate” yet works was offered a deal for half a jar of hover chucks instead of a full jar of chocolate, was not sinned
