Great video! I love the introduction regarding having the right mindset. That is probably the most important thing. I have never been confident about pruning, so - I never did. I just let nature take its course, and it did! Leggy stems, blooms up top but not throughout the bush, etc. So today, I went for it. Although it’s a little late - better late than never. I did have a few buds up top. I kept a few. The rest I butchered (or so it seemed)! I gave it a good pruning - as much as I could despite thorns, bees, and doubt. So, now we wait and see what Queen Elizabeth has to say this summer! Hopefully she’ll be kind! 😊. Thanks again! God bless!
I’m so glad that you were able to take some of the fright away and prune your Queen Elizabeth! I’m sure you’ll find having a tidier plant, with flowers at eye level 😀 The more you prune, the more confident you will be each time. Thank you for your kind words, that means so much!! Have fun with your roses!!! 🌹
It looks like different country has different style of pruning. This guy style is to prune and make it as low as possible. Most northern countries pruning style they measure their pruning by their own knees, probably because the snow height in their country is that high so it will increase the chance of the roses to fully recover as soon as possible after extremely harsh and cold winter season.
I agree, it is very interesting to see the differences that others have when it comes to gardening. The difference in winter climates does a lot to pruning tactics. This year I had to prune a lot harder because of the unusually cold winter months.
Americans and European usually prune their roses with care and a lot of careful strategies. Chinese style of pruning their rose is factory minded pruning, they are using chainsaw, just get as much flowers as possible, sell it, make sure money come in their bank first, then only think about the health of the rose plant later.
Awesome video RoseDude! Remember, once bloomers are pruned AFTER blooming, not before. For anyone with old garden roses or ramblers im sure the RoseDude has excellent pruning advice on those.
I do feel a lot more confident. Thank you!!!!
You’re more than welcome!!! 🤗

Yes! 👍 once bloomers should be pruned after they bloom, as they flower from “old wood” (previous year’s growth)
