They are an incredibly tight live band, possibly a better live act than as studio recording artists. This is what ROCK STARS look like. It is a rare thing to have multiple world-class instrumentalists/performers in just one band let alone proficiently great songwriters. This is an incredibly important band that deserves to be illuminated amongst the All-Time Greats!
From Japan. As always, thank you for your excellent commentary. I am a little disappointed that it was not the girls who composed the music, but they are still performing it completely as their own. On the 26th, I received the Blu-ray of the Yokohama Arena and have been watching it every day. It comes with a documentary disc of the girls backstage, which I hope you get a chance to see. I hope you get a chance to see it. The girls look back on what they have done so far and talk about their enthusiasm for their future activities. We have been in a poor environment during the tour, we have shed many tears due to hardships and frustrations, each of us has experienced setbacks, and we have thought about quitting many times, but we still looked forward and worked hard in the same direction. I was moved to tears. I am not going to say that BANND-MAID is the best band in the world or anything like that. However, I believe that they are the one and only band.
It's fun when Miku gets so into a song that she does the "head helicopter". She starts swinging her head back and forth, with pigtails a-flying. It's awesome!!!!!
If you get the chance to watch this whole concert, the whole thing id fantastic. You noticed her tuning her guitar at the start. You will see her changing back & forth from standard tuning to a drop tuning and back again between certain songs. she doesn't change guitars like a lot of guitarists. Kanami does the same.
So, that's what was happening! I never imagined she would take that approach since having a second guitar is so easy. Then again, a simple drop "D" tuning wouldn't take much re-tuning. Thanks for the insight!
Rock Candy, I very much enjoyed your detailed breakdown of Real Existence. You pointed out how BM can start a song with a groove and a feel, then go 5 different directions, all the while, never losing the original feel, then tie it all back together in the end. And even then never lose the hook. Oh this band, they make me so happy. I've seen them twice, and after each show, my smile muscles were hurting.
What a wonderful breakdown. Thanks for the tremendous effort! Band Maid rewards you for paying attention to all they do. I swear, they put more work into a single song than I ever put into an entire set back with those dinosaurs 🦖 The “behind the scenes” secret of this particular performance was that during the previous song, Saiki had gone into the “ladies section” of the crowd and had ditched her heels 👠 so when she came back for this song she was barefoot. Which explains the twirl and smiles with MISA. Saiki gets her shoes back when Kanami takes her solo. Thanks again, (AKA Michael S)
From the way the song blasts into existence (pun intended) at the very start, to the way Saiki walks on and TAKES COMMAND of the stage, to the thrashing of Mincho and Miku (pigtails taking flight) and Misa and Akane seemingly sharing the same brain, this video is "Full Tilt Band-Maid". Or, as I have previously described it: "The Definition of Joy". Thanks much RC. LOVE the new, in-depth format! 🕊
BTW, Maidiac's don't mind watching reactions to studio tracks with no video. I'm just saying, keep that in mind because half of Band-Maids music has no video or someone has made a collage to go along with the music.😏♥️🎙🎸🥁😎🤘Some great tracks without an official video include " Fate, Freezer, Drop of a hat, Page, Awkward & many more.
This song is like looking through a kaleidoscopic. Little glints of color spinning in and out of view everywhere. Their songs of this vintage just overflowed with musical ideas. They're like four minute albums.
There are many unique aspects to Real Existence that sets it apart from many rock songs: the starts and stops, Miku's little breakout vocal line, Akane's double tempo gallop, and Kamani's solo. I mean, who would ever put that kind of solo in a rock song? But it works... just like all of the plot-twists, complex density, and genre-merging they employ on most of their material. Every section offers something different than the previous one. That's one reason many people -- unless you're a musician - may find it difficult to get into their music at first listen. As tightly integrated as it is, there's so much going on. And then you add the Japanese language and maid outfits... But for people who like and appreciate their writing, musicianship, performance and personalities, Band-Maid's beautiful cacophony of excellence offers unlimited rewards for repeat listening... and mega stardom for the Maids, imxo. Thx, Joel!
This is classic Band Maid along with Moritorium my favorite OG Band Maid performances. Note this was not written by Band Maid but they own it. Also this my favorite Kanami solo. It perfectly shows her solo matching up with the song. It perfectly plays off Miku’s rhythm guitar, Misa’s bass and Akane’s drums. She is a true genius of serving the song.
Saiki might have had a bit of extra adrenaline here. She was almost pulled out in to the audience the song before. In fact, she lost her heels during it. You can notice she is barefoot when she hugs on Misa during the bridge. After Akane's solo, she got them back.
Want to see Akane drum wearing a head cam? Band-Maid Prime is for you! There are tons of great stuff on there, plus full concerts - including this one (Zepp Tokyo 13 April 2018).
Ⅰhave just received some startling information. "Band Maid" will co-write with "Mike Einziger" of "INCUBUS" and will release "BESTIE." The song "BESTIE" will be released simultaneously worldwide on April 17. I don't think this is an April Fool's story.
Thanks rock candy for just another great review. You really did step up your analysis to another level recently. Love it. You entered my little Olymp of preferred reactors. I follow B-M since early 2015 and they still amaze me every time. There’s no band out there like B-M. Just every peace of this amazing Puzzle fits together so perfectly. And beside that the ladies are wonderful souls as well. 🙏
Speaking of Highlights, you missed Kanami doing the Hair Spin Headbang. You also missed when Saiki put her arm around MISA after that little high part she played. That made me smile, and MISA too. And Saiki and MISA both kneel down after. How did you miss that? And you missed that Miku Hair Helicoptered her Twin Tails right before she did that little "Wakanai" response to Saiki in her "Cute Voice". And in the OMV she does it in full voice. Nice touch. I'm glad you caught that one. Now the Stops aren't so amazing when you realize that BAND-MAID are Masters of Backing Tracks. Not use how much of a Click that get with those. It would be interesting to hear what they're hearing. There was a funny moment when the rest of the band started without Akane because she had accidentally unplugged her In-Ear Monitors. She got a funny scolding from the Little Pigeon on that one.
As much as I would like to attend that - I will be unable due to my youngest daughter graduating. But I'm sure there'll be another opportunity. Rock on!
🤔 Hmmmmmm Should have got the extended warranty on the Fan since *BAND-MAID* has over 130 songs in their catalog. Would suggest you check out the official music video 😊
Mr. Candy, your reactions just make me love BAND-MAID even more. I think you need to order the Yokohama Arena Blu-ray (an amazing show), along with all the others so you can dissect each and every song. I hope you’ll get around to I’LL, one of my favorite songs. I’ve never heard anything like it. Can’t wait to hear what you have to say about NEMOPHILA. The awesome in a different way, but they share a similar work ethic.
Had my eye on one. It, and all Lovebites merch, was removed from the website before I had the money to buy it. I saw more merch removed from another website about a week later. I assumed Lovebite's management is tightening their grip on "Official Merch".
@@RockCandy-ix3nn that and the cost of importing a signed one from Japan is why I downloaded the pic off Google then had it enlarged at the print shop. I have purchased all the CD's and DVD's from official sources so I do not feel guilty for cheating on the poster
Even more impressive, they actually didn't write this song. This was early in their career when they had songs written for them. However, by the time of this concert, they had probably played this song 150+ times live.
@@bandmaidfanATL Don't forget that Freedom was the prior song at this concert. And it was a show stopper itself. A lot of people miss Miku going full rock star mode in the first verse. The camera mostly shows Saiki and Kanami laughing at Miku's antics.
Excellent. Very tight. Having grown up going to LZ, Grand Funk, Deep Purple, The Doors, Cream, etc. concerts I admit that I have a more difficult time relating to Band Maid than I do The Warning. I am not comparing or contrasting the two bands. I just can’t keep images of cartoons from forming in my imagination when I watch Band Maid, and I’m not talking “Yellow Submarine” here but children’s cartoons. Listening to them with my eyes closed is a much better experience for me.

The most amazing thing of all about this performance is that from them, it's typical.
Best band on the planet 🤘

Thanks again for more great commentary. I like to think all the stops and starts echos the lyric, like a cursor on a screen.
Happy Eastern from in Old German man to another oldmen! Ben❤😂
Back at ya'! Old Timers like us can still rock! Thanks for watching!
