@@WheelsInTheSky Will do, thank you! I'm still just a renter but I'll make my way across the field to say hi as soon as I can, hopefully some serendipity happens and it's the same time you're around
I learned to fly at BTF skypark! wow... you should make a video about the airfield and what's become of it. Looks like a lot more hangars were added since 2002. Also, when he was describing the plane all i could hear is 'expensive' 'expensive' and more 'expensive stuff'. Like, the oxygen system connected to an ipad, connedted to him to see how he's breathing, or the autoland stuff. It's almost a type rating, all the things in it. Most men his age cannot perform the physical maneuver he did to get into it, much less their wives. Why not get a bonanza or a cirrus? Way more capable and user friendly.
@scottboelke4391. Hi Scott, SkyPark is a neat little airport. I never noticed it till I retired from the airline and was desperate to get my own plane! That’s what I thought when I saw Bob’s plane - dollar signs! But he likes that stuff. I do to, but I’m not sure I’m willing to pay for it, after all, I may never fly another instrument approach the rest of my life. Not sure I would want to in a single engine anyway. I have the G3x, in my Rocket though, bought it that way. Gotta say, I love it. Makes life easy. Every time I climb in my Husky, I remember the reason the seller was getting rid of it. He said it was too hard getting in and out! Another good reason to keep the gym membership !! Bonanza or Cirrus? Always thought it was interesting how everyone buys a different plane. But, all good points, I’m glad you checked in!
That's a piece of art work, so beautiful. I want t fly it, or at the very least I want to be a passenger. I'm a very experience hang glider pilot and I love these little light aircraft.
@cloudstreets1396. Me and Bob both have wonderful Jack Russells. Bob says he put his dog’s kennel in the cargo space right behind the seats, along with two soft sided luggage cases on each side of the kennel. Fits perfectly. He has the door to the kennel facing forward so his dog can go in and out. My wife and I learned to put our Sparky on his leash as soon as we land. They’re busy dogs!!
@@WheelsInTheSky Your video now has my wife and I looking into the Risen 915. It’s perfect for just her and I and the range, performance, tech and fuel economy are nothing short of miraculous.
@cloudstreets1396. That’s great to hear. I’m considering it to. But we usually take the 185, because most of the places we go are backcountry. But Alberto was telling me his Risen could land on dirt, as long as it’s not too ruff.
Pretty sweet plane. Wonder how it would fit someone 6’3? Sat in a bunch of European composite planes during Oshkosh last year. I was quite disappointed that my head was hitting the canopy and my ankles were touching each other.
@@daniloparlatano7760 I'm 6'4" and I fit fine in mine; very comfortable. One of the Risen pilots in Wyoming is, I believe 6'7". They can fit it to you.
How does this compare to the DarkAero? (I mean, besides the DarkAero not shipping for at least another year.) * That cockpit looks quite roomy. I assume the bucket of the seats is between the two wing spars? * Wing is significantly bigger than DarkAero, and the max weight is less, and those huge flaps! DarkAero's stall speed and runway requirements would be larger, right? * Is the DarkAero effectively much faster? The DarkAero fuel capacity is over 4x larger, but max gross weight isn't a lot bigger. Is the Risen just assuming you'll always have a passenger? Are those flaps making the tanks smaller?
@lainMcClatchie. Hi Lain. Sounds like you’re in the market for a plane. Always exciting ! I looked over the specks of each plane. You’re right, each has its pluses and minuses. I think it just comes down to which plane has more pluses for the mission you plan on. And, I shouldn’t say, but, which one you get the most excited looking at! Although, I’m not sure I would be comparing the Dark Arrow to much at this point. History is full of aircraft designers who haven’t gotten past the point where Dark Arrow is right now. But, I hope they do and I hope their specs materialize! I know, not much help am I.
@Friedbrain11. Hey Robert. Yeah, the more I look at it, the more I want one! I sure wasn’t expecting that kind of performance! Let me know if you want to get in touch with Bob, I believe he’s handling orders in the U.S.
@timmartin6410. Hi Tim, yes it is. When I see planes like this, it gets me excited to go to Oshkosh ! I’ll be heading there next week. I was talking to Alberto, the designer of the Risen, he hopes to set up a booth at Oshkosh in 2024.
Great job on your videos. The Risen is an awesome airplane for the Speed vs fuel economy and landing distance. Would love to see what the 916 will yield out of her. Would love to go flying with you sometime with my Patey built 720 Legacy🤙 I’m out of Spanish Fork. Cheers.
@KyleMoses. Thanks Kyle. I’m thinking the same, eager to see the performance of the 916. That would be great, love to see your legacy. I’m down that way fairly often. They’ll be a small group of us doing a parade flyover this 24th, then we land there and they give us gas. Lol. “Will work for gas”. I don’t know if you’ll be at the airport that day, if not, I’m there often.
@gerrykelly2440 Yes it is. I was just talking to Bob ( the owner ) a little while ago. We’re trying to arrange to go up again and do some video. We’d like to have two Risens this time.
@ioanekirarahu951. I’ve got 2 sets of the Bose A20. They’re ok. I can’t say that I’m impressed. My buddy flies with Lightspeed Zulu and seems to like it. I’ve been thinking of getting the Lightspeed Delta Zulu next. I believe I read that with that one you can record audio to your phone via Bluetooth.
seriously pretty airplane! Swiss, you say? I can't even begin to ask the cost, because it's way beyond most folk's "budget"..."budget" being, perhaps, and oxymoron for this little beauty!!
@lohikarhu734. The designer, Alberto Porto is an Italian Argentina. His aircraft is produced by Swiss Excellence. I forget what Bob said he paid, I think it was around the 250k range. I believe he bought it from another fellow who had imported it. Of course he has his loaded up with Avionics. Yes, a bit pricey. You might be able to justify it by the fuel savings!, Lol, you know, where there’s a will, the a way to justify!
@@daniloparlatano7760 Thank you for that reply, I do recall Alberto and his girlfriend telling my wife we need to come visit Italy. So, is the name of the company called Swiss Excellence??
@joellong438. It does bounce around at any speed, but the camera has good internal stabilization. Here’s a video of how I attached the camera to my plane: How to Mount Cameras on Airplanes #GoPro #Insta360 th-cam.com/video/AKKkPPcr9T4/w-d-xo.html
I’d love to see the fixed-gear version (the Siren) equipped with the 915. I’m willing to bet you’d give up no more than around 10-12 kts in airspeed, especially at high altitudes with reduced drag. I read an article that the Siren (912) boasts a record of 155 kt/288 kph cruise. Yet the Risen 912 is advertised at 300 kph, which is 161.9 kts. That’s very little difference. I’m a fan of fixed-gear due to the high maintenance costs and insurance premiums associated with retracts.
@GeneralSirDouglasMcA. Yeah, I’m sure you’re right. Next time I see Alberto, I’ll ask. I kinda like the clean look with the gear up, and worry about costs later.
Imagine a bigger one with a PT6A in it Dreams aside this plane is actually a "feasible" cross country monster that looks stunning! I wonder how its yaw control feels.
Lovely aircraft, but I don't understand the prop pitch control. From the description given, a fast cruise (requiring an 80% throttle) would produce a fine pitch, whereas surely you need a coarse pitch at high speed?
@rigilchrist. Sorry, we should’ve explained better. Apparently, there are other inputs that help determine propeller pitch besides just throttle position. I have to say, after flying jets my whole life, I kinda like the idea of the plane figuring out the optimal mixture and prop pitch.
@garretwill5839. Yeah, me to. Alberto has already brought it over to the states. Non-stop flight. It’s sitting in a hanger at Appleton, waiting for Oshkosh. I’m hoping after Oshkosh, he’ll bring it out here for a video. I’m putting the engine back in my Rocket right now. Hope to be ready to fly to Oshkosh. See you there.
@@WheelsInTheSky I see you talking about potentially fitting bigger tires on these for rougher takeoffs/landings. Did Bob ever get back to you? What size of tire can you get on them?
@garrettwilt5839 Hi Will, I just talked to Bob. He says he’s got the smaller tires and the new Risen’s have, or can be fitted with bigger tires for grass strips. He was driving and said he’ll text me shortly with the size of those bigger tires. I’ll make a note to check back with you.

@flymachine. I completely understand ! Especially when I look at my fuel flow!! I visited with the designer the other day. He says he’s getting several calls a day from the U.S. and is considering setting up a distribution center here. I plan to do some more video of the Risen. Hopefully pull the door off my 185 and use my good camera.
@jabixl. Yes, the more the better! With that high wing, you should meet us up in Idaho. We just got back last week after flying around to a lot of the backcountry airstrips. It was awesome!
Pretty impressive safety features on the Risen. I do wonder about the stall characteristics of it as a V tail though. Did you build your F1 or did you buy it? I emailed them(I think?) but didn't hear back.
@justcommenting4981. Yeah, I’ve emailed also and not gotten a reply. But when ever I call, I can talk to someone. I bought my F1 When I flew Bob’s Risen, the stall was mild and a non-event. It felt comfortable flying and handled nice. The only thing that felt different to me was on t/o and landing, the plane felt like an ultralight. I could get use to it, it was just different for me.
@georgewoodland1766. Hi George. I used a 360 camera on a long selfie stick. Here’s a video of how I did it: How to Mount Cameras on Airplanes #GoPro #Insta360 th-cam.com/video/AKKkPPcr9T4/w-d-xo.html
@publius1776ad. I was using an Insta360 X2. I’ll be experimenting with some other 360 cameras in the future. Always looking for better quality. But without a camera crew, a 360 camera does the job.
@Berkut13. Yeah, you have to really look for it. Thanks, I’m always looking for a good place to mount a camera. Just pulled the cargo door off my 185 the other day, can’t wait to try videoing out thru the opening.
Beautiful airplane. One question - Is there enough luggage space for a long weekend trip for my wife and I ??????????? Can you get it without the parachute? (with such a low stall speed, looks like you could crash land in a small field without much bodily damage). Landing gear wheels look a little small...
@keitha.9788. Yes. Bob and his wife do it all the time, with their dog. Although, they stay at friends or hotel. I would say the volume/size of the baggage area is certainly adequate for week-end trips. The weight limit is 30kg/66 pounds. If your going to be camping, it may be a bit tight depending on your camping equipment. Yes, you can get the plane with out the ballistic chute. I would agree, slow enough speed to put down about anywhere. Unless you routinely fly over territory that wouldn’t allow any kind of emergency landing. Yes, those are little wheels. I had mentioned that to Alberto, in reference to landing off asphalt. As I recall he mentioned you could put bigger tires on it. Not sure how much bigger would still fit in the wheel well?? My buddy and I fly our high-wings backcountry. I land first with my big tires to check the strip, then he lands his Bird Dog, with 6.00” tires. So much fun!

@flythatchercx-4575. Good to hear from you Flythatcher. Thank you very much.
@@WheelsInTheSky : Right on... Yer pays yer money, and yer makes yer choice. If we all did the same thing this planet would be unthinkably boring! 😜
That's a piece of art work, so beautiful. I want t fly it, or at the very least I want to be a passenger. I'm a very experience hang glider pilot and I love these little light aircraft.

@371stone. You’re very welcome. It was a pretty cool plane.
When you said, “The dog” I thought no way can you fit a dog. Then I saw that Jack Russell. Perfect size. 👍
@Captndarty. Good question. I’ll check with Alberto, the designer. I know when I flew it, I was surprised at how roomy the cockpit was.
@@WheelsInTheSky There are no height issues, the Risen can be customized and we have enough room for tall pilots. :-)
@@daniloparlatano7760 I'm 6'4" and I fit fine in mine; very comfortable. One of the Risen pilots in Wyoming is, I believe 6'7". They can fit it to you.
How does this compare to the DarkAero? (I mean, besides the DarkAero not shipping for at least another year.)
* That cockpit looks quite roomy.
I’ll need a minute to look at that. I always enjoy checking out another plane. I’ll be back.

@timmartin6410. Hi Tim, yes it is. When I see planes like this, it gets me excited to go to Oshkosh ! I’ll be heading there next week. I was talking to Alberto, the designer of the Risen, he hopes to set up a booth at Oshkosh in 2024.
The body lay-out shape works just FINE! : That was first vision from Anastas Migkoyan!
@magardunoe. Interesting. I agree, seems to be just fine.
What kind of price are we looking at for one of these?
@gryphon1six801. Depending on avionics, $325-$360.

seriously pretty airplane!
How do you have that camera pole attached to avoid vibrations at high speed?

Wow that plane is a "dart" very aerodynamic. I guess you are back in town from Idaho.

Imagine a bigger one with a PT6A in it
Dreams aside this plane is actually a "feasible" cross country monster that looks stunning! I wonder how its yaw control feels.
@CrossWindsPat. That’s what I was thinking.
When I flew it, yaw was not noticeable. But of course, he has a yaw damper.
Great, comfortable XC plane!
@@WheelsInTheSky Thanks. I agree - though I have never flown jets, I have flown a diesel a/c aith automatic prop pitch. :)
I’ve never wanted to be rich as much as right now. 😂
@crme. Yep, seeing is wanting. I’ve been looking at sea planes lately. Now I want one!!
Can't wait to see the new 916 Equipped Risen at Oshkosh.
@garretwill5839. Yeah, me to. Alberto has already brought it over to the states. Non-stop flight. It’s sitting in a hanger at Appleton, waiting for Oshkosh. I’m hoping after Oshkosh, he’ll bring it out here for a video.

@LA-Voodoo. Lol, no doctors allowed!
I bought my F1
When I flew Bob’s Risen, the stall was mild and a non-event. It felt comfortable flying and handled nice. The only thing that felt different to me was on t/o and landing, the plane felt like an ultralight. I could get use to it, it was just different for me.

@publius1776ad. I was using an Insta360 X2. I’ll be experimenting with some other 360 cameras in the future. Always looking for better quality. But without a camera crew, a 360 camera does the job.
Not much chance of finding that fuel cap, eh? Good camera mount locations and great cinematography.
What lake were you flying over in this video?
