    Susan, I know this is from a year ago, but believe me, this simple video where you literally show step by step has finally helped me figure out what I was doing wrong on my stencils! I didn't do the black box (or shape). I have bought so many supplies thinking that was the issue and I had the right stuff all along, lol! I am grateful for the literal, "first do this, then do this, make sure to do this..." kind of instruction. A lot of advanced crafters forget that us newbies just want to be successful THEN we will learn all of the other nuances related to the project. THANK YOU! My investment in my machine was not in vain after all, lol! ❣❣

    Perfect! Just purchased a Cricut Joy yesterday afternoon with the primary intention of creating reusable stencils for mixed media art and found your video. This is precisely what I needed to know: what material to use and what settings to use and the process from beginning to finished stencil. Thank you for honing in on this use for the machine and showing us how to do it! ❣️

    Finally someone I can understand and follow! Your tutorial was SPOT ON! 😁👏👏 keep your tutorials slow and easy just like this one and you’ll have a TON of us following you! 😁🥰🙌 the dual video was so helpful. Only one suggestion that nobody does in tutorials. Us ‘older people’ have a very difficult time following the mouse curser around because it blends in with everything. Change the mouse curser to a bright red or hot pink to help our eyes follow where it goes on screen. I don’t understand why nobody thinks to do that. If you do this, you’ll be the person to follow…but get ready, you’re going to get a lot of subscribers! 😁🥰👍

      Thank you for your feedback. When I’m at my home computer I have the software that adds o circle to follow my cursor. My laptop does not. One of these days I will invest it another license to use on my laptop. I’m planning more cricut videos so please come back.

    Hi Susan, greetings from Spain. I loved your video, only come question. Is the acetate foil adhesive? I see that it fixes very well on the mat. Thanks for your wonderful TUTORIAL!!

    • @SusanCliftonArtist
      @SusanCliftonArtist  ปีที่แล้ว

      The mat is sticky, not the acetate. I burnish it to make sure it's got a good grip on it. When the mat gets sticky you need to either get another one or apply adhesive to make the mat sticky again. I haven't tried that yet.

    • @SusanCliftonArtist
      @SusanCliftonArtist  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The stencils I cut had rough edges so I taped them. But if you leave a border they will be fine. The craft plastic is durable.

    Thanks, this is just what I needed! Two questions though : 1) can one reduce and multiply the same design to make it a pattern? and 2) can one combine several different designs in one? That would be cool because I'd like to be able to make my own patterns.

    • @SusanCliftonArtist
      @SusanCliftonArtist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, absolutely. But you will have to join them. You will have multiple layers and that’s probably not going to work. I should do a video on that. Great idea!

    Thanks so much for showing your formula! I have a maker and had gotten the same plastic on amazon but it wasn't cutting , I think one video even said to get the circular cutting blade . Only question I have is which type mat did you use there seems to be different options for "stickyness" ;) thanks again!

    • @SusanCliftonArtist
      @SusanCliftonArtist  ปีที่แล้ว

      I just used the mat the mat that came with the cricut joy. Not an extra sticky one. It’s the two passes that do the trick. When you select more pressure it does 2 passes. I made lots of stencils before I had to purchase a new blade

    Thanks very much. I watched a video using their Stencil Vinyl on the Joy machine, but was afraid I'd have to consider the more expensive machine for reusable stencils. I'm very happy you have showed us how to use craft plastic sheets on the Joy.
    I want to make stencils for my ceramics projects where I can "paint" with slip. I've used store-bought stencils successfully, but the available selection is narrow (even online) and most are way too big for what I'm doing. Your technique on the Cricut Joy sounds perfect.
    Do you have any idea of how narrow a rectangle the Joy will cut and still produce square corners, i.e., 90º not a radius? I hope I'm expressing my question so you can understand.
    Thanks!

    • @SusanCliftonArtist
      @SusanCliftonArtist  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s about 4 1/2 inches wide. Maybe a little wider. So anything smaller should work.

  • @robira1313
    @robira1313 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How do you stick the stencil down so the paint does not bleed outside of the design? It is not adhesive mylar, is it?

    • @SusanCliftonArtist
      @SusanCliftonArtist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. The stickiness of the gel plate hold the acetate stencil in place. But you also need to do a few light passes over it rather than pressing too hard. That way the paint doesn’t get pushed under the stencil. After a while you get the hang of it. But if you are using the stencil without a gelli plate the dab lightly with a stencil brush. Maybe tape it down so it doesn’t move.

    Thank you! Just the material stock I had in mind; washable, reusable, for fabric imprinting. Ordered a Cricut Joy thru Amazon, and my doorbell rang in 2.5 hours, which is incomprehensibly fast! Would have taken me longer to get dressed, go to a craft store etc. I wanted to try making small size logo prints for tShirts, small signs, wall-frame art etc. Again, thank you kindly for making this easy-to-follow video. Not an artist, just an engineer who draws staight lines 😄, but likes freehand calligraphy...whoa, just got an idea 💡
