Yes, 2B was cold and said that they shouldn’t show emotion but it was 9S who had a particular hatred and distrust for machines.

@@evasivedre370 which is kinda sad that soooo many games either just miss the mark completely in the English releases or are off just enough to shift the meaning.
Take Rani from Elden Ring for example. In the English release, they make it seem like her goal is to get rid of all emotions and thought to make the land peaceful by turning everyone in to dolls. While in the original she wants to free the people and let people make their own choices instead of being slaves to the elden ring bound by its will.
I don’t know about Nier Automata and the differences between translations/VA but at least in the English version I took it as 2B(or not 2B?) as forcibly repressing her emotions to follow the “rules” but she is filled with doubt about YorHa, humans, androids, and machines and is in a way battling herself and her convictions.
To be honest, I also never completed the game. I spent so much time exploring and doing everything as 2B that by the time I got done with the DLC Arena(which I did grossly under-leveled, maybe 25 levels under leveled? It took so long to just defeat even the weakest machines because I was doing no damage to them, lol) then by time I actually started doing the story stuff again I could just use Pod to gun down the final boss in her route. But I couldn’t stand 9S play style and I couldn’t explore anymore to find all the locked chests and doors again because it was far too boring for me at that point… I kind was want to play it again but the dread of playing 9S keeps me away.
Well ,when you play the first playthrough you play as 2B ,and oh boy do I have some heavy hesitation when it's time to kill those robots, RIP pascal and their kids,
Its not like they have emotions for us, its just we have emotions for them.

Ingame 2B was the cold calculated one. The B in her name stands for battle. While 9S, S standing for Scanner, was far more emotional and curious because that was how they were programmed. But spoilers for a game that's been out for 6 years, 2B isn't actually a 2B unit she's something else I forget the name but her entire purpose is to destroy 9S if he gets too curious. She acts as a crush figure for 9S units so they sacrifice themselves for her in battle allowing them to be rebooted and start again. However in the game 9S backs up his own memory in the machine network which allows him to continue to progress even after being sacrificed. 2B hates this cycle but it's part of her job. All the Androids are programmed with emotions but they're not allowed to "feel" them due to command. The machines also without proper instruction or purpose beyond mindless destruction begin immitating human behaviors without properly understanding why we do what we do. So yes. The machines have emotions as well, if not misplaced concepts of what an emotion even is.

9S would sometimes show emotion but his memory got reset while he managed to save 2B's on more than one occasion I believe

People forget how much of a demon 9s can really be… this moment is a perfect example. 2b is usually more calculated however she had a lapse in judgement for a moment believing that machines actually had emotions. That confusion caused her to hesitate which is dangerous of course. 9s took notice of that pretty good and stepped up when 2b slipped up

Even 2B was shook by 9S doing this. In game he's more conflicted about machines at this point and she has to remind him that machines are the enemy...
But the anime made the Simone fight genuinely terrifying from 9S' perspective so...him being a little murder happy here, while jarring, makes sense. Going into the minds of machine lifeforms seems to traumatize the guy every single time.

Because the alien robots invaded earth and wiped out the remaining humans, but it seems some robots bugged and became curious about human lives and they imitate how humans lived. FYI the girl 2B and the boy 9S are both androids created by human made AI, They are made to annihilate the alien life forms or robots on the planet.

But well that in the game, what happen in the serie no idea.
Well, people forget. The real dangerous one here between the two. It is not 2B. It is 9S. Who was created to KILL 2B. Just in case she became emotional and started to have random thoughts. With the whole 2B line. There were a lot of "Defects" or "Rogue" Units that broke away. And well, the 9S line was created to hunt down, capture for reprogramming, or kill them.
This is all Canon by the way. The creator made this claim and anything he says or does is all canon. That includes his time with Final Fantasy XIV team for the Raid. It is all canon.

Humanity was wiped out on earth by a virus and the surviors escaped to the moon. The surviors created androids (The woman and boy, plus many others) to reclaim the earth from the machines for humanity. The androids have been trying to reclaim earth for hundreds of years. But what the andriods dont realize is that the humans on the moon are all dead and these machines are the last vestiges of human souls entombed in metal to escape the plague which wiped humanity out. Those robots have human souls and thats why one acted as a mother trying to protect her child. The androids purpose was to cleanse the Earth do humans vould return, little do they realize that they have been slaughtering the last vestiges of humanity left.

A YorHa unit’s directive is to annihilate machine lifeforms. 9S (the male YorHa android) takes it the most seriously and constantly reaffirms 2B (the female YorHa android) not to be tricked by their humanlike display and that they’re only mimicking emotions
