After 6 years in the Army, I'm finally dropping that volunteer statement. I am tired of being a part of a group where people don't want to be there and consistently do the bare minimum to get by. Every time I have had the privilege of doing some training with the group guys, I was shocked at how all they care about is getting better at their job and bringing up those around them.

It’s probably due to the fact that when your conventional forces, you realize your never going to implement your training because your never gonna a do what your actually training for, a lot of the training is just to check the box not about learning something, you get held to the same standards of SF without any of the SF missions or budget, in the end most jobs are pretty lame unless your are SF.. the end

Earning the right to wear my beret was without a doubt one of the greatest honors of my life and my dream come true. It was a dream that started when I was 7 or 8 years old. I was living in a trailer park in a very small town in no where Utah (Grantsville). It was the early 1970's and I hear the song the "The Ballad of the Green Berets". I was hooked. I told everyone that is what I was going to do and I did it. I remember once after getting settled in at Ft. Campbell. My wife and I were walking into the px. As we were walking in we passed a couple officers that I saluted. They moved out of my way as we were walking. My wife who knew very little about the military asked if they were officers. I told her yes and she asked why they moved out of our way like they did. All I said said was that it was respect. I felt like a real stud that day when my wife saw what it ment to be a Green Beret. I married her when I was in language school. She was from Idaho and was from a well to do family. She knew almost nothing about the military. She spent a few months with me at Bragg and started picking up on a few things. I think this was the moment she figured out what it ment.
Being in Special Forces was one of the greatest honors of my life. I worked with some of the greatest men a person could ever want to be around. My only regret was that I had to leave that group but that time will come for everyone. But the honor of being a Green Beret lives forever.

This is definitely a good topic and a few people have talked about it. One thing that I think is often overlooked when its talked about is that even though you are in the guard, roughly that first two years will be spent at training. So you have to be in a position in your personal life that allows for that time away regardless. I know two SF guard guys, both are awesome dudes, and both love the job.

Part of the process in reaching that goal when you're on that team is proving to yourself that you're worthy of being there, for those feeling inadequate like myself. That's a big part of my drive and I'm glad I'm not alone. Thanks for keeping it real, boss, here's to one day doing my own circuit through local stores with my new green beret :)

Based off the information given on line l think it depends on the region that specific SF group is attached to. We are not currently in a war so I believe most SF groups are in other places around the word helping combat drug cartels at the border along with Delta units. But I’m pretty sure a decent amount of SF groups are still in Stan, Iraq and even Syria and other places that are still in great conflict. But there are many groups of SF units from 1st SF down to national guard SF 19th & 20th group. Hope that helps out a bit if buck doesn’t get a chance to answer but he would know better and more in depth about this.

I enjoy you content very much even though I live in Finland. I watch you just from pure interest in special operations. You talked about the legacy and the history about the Green Berets. I wanted to ask if you have anything to share about Larry Thorne. I know there is a award for the best ODA named after him and some other memorials. And maybe that can be a video idea. You go a bit deeper into the history of special forces. Lauri was a true Finnish warrior. Thank you for your service, I think I can say that because you were fighting against the same evil as we are. Keep up the excellent work!

I want to be a green beret because I want to make an impact and push myself further in life. I want to make an impact in the world and in life. Helping others that green berets help. Whether its training others, delivering supplies to villages. Whatever it is I want to be apart of that. A while ago I saw this video and it talked about what it's like to be a green beret. It talks about the direct results the at green berets make whether its building a school, or a town or helping out with supplies, training military. A lot of team guys get to see the direct result and impact that they are making and I want that to. That's why I want to be a green beret. To see the changes and impacts that I've made with other team guys and to push myself further in life no matter what it takes. I want to be apart of the brotherhood. Thank you for making this video and sharing with us what it means to be a green beret. I just wanted to share with you why I want to earn the title of the green beret. Hope you and your family are doing great sir and god bless you!👍🤙💪👊🇺🇲

I didn't start seeing DOL until much later. Embarrassingly, I had to ask what it was and I had been in group for years at that point. I liked being on a team. Some people make it through that shouldn't have, They end up being disposed of, and being shoved into some recess in the command.

At the time I’m commenting on this I’m 29 turning 30 soon in a couple of months and I wished I had the opportunity to enlist in the Army and become a Ranger or Green Beret so I could have lived the life of a special operation soldier and share that pride and honor for both my country and my unit, unfortunately I wasn’t able to due being denied entry all because I couldn’t get a wavier and the recruiters being such pussies on not allowing me to serve my country and gain experience. The only way I sadly would’ve been able to join was to lie and I felt that would’ve been wrong and only would’ve put me back further in my civilian life if I was caught.

Self assess and go from there. If you are physically and mentally fit, send it and go Varsity. If you aren't, get there. Wherever you go you can talk to an SF recruiter and go to selection. There's no one that can stop you.
