I think the math module 2 was not necessarily difficult, it was the fact that the questions were time-consuming. I guarantee that I could do every math problem on SAT given some more time. I had to make my best guess on some of them because I just didn't have the time to figure it out.

From someone who scored 790 and never under 700 in the math portion of the SAT, this SAT's module 2 was the hardest its ever been. I had five text entry questions (so I couldn't even guess) and they were ridiculously difficult to the point where I would need 10 minutes for each problem to maybe even get a shot at getting it right. In the first module, however, I felt personally I got all right. With that in mind, I'll let yall know what math score I got, because if I do get a high score with a bunch of wrongs, it suggests to me that collegeboard would curve the questions to gauge what your true SAT math score would be.
Edit I got 1420, which is useless cuz I can't superscore anything. My math was 740 btw.

My son said the second modules were extremely hard. The first modules were way easier. He said there were some reading questions with incredibly long passages and math questions that were just confusing as hell. I get your explanation and understood your original video, but didn’t think he would struggle like he thinks he did. Good to know that he won’t take as much of hit as he otherwise might have because of the easier curve. He’s going back in November. Do you expect the same kind of test? He’s really been busting his a$$ studying.

    • @PrepworksEducation
      @PrepworksEducation  หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Again, everyone gets a different test - and everyone feels differently about their performance (even if they do get similar test forms). "Incredibly long passages" seems strange - reading passages are always always always capped at 150 words; math issues are generally just a result of not doing enough practice. For that, we recommend using the Educator Student Bank - 2-min video here: th-cam.com/video/Dd8pTCoqCbc/w-d-xo.html. You can also find some tips in our recent videos.
In terms of November, we're expecting a similar trend with the "curve," though it might be a little lessened because most EDers will have taken it this month, while most RDers take it in December.
We'll publish a video for the November SAT on the best 100% free methods to study with. I got a 1560 on the DSAT my first time in about a week using the resources I'll provide in the video, and the entire test seemed like a breeze because of it. Dedicated practice is key!

In practice tests my best scores were:
    English: 770
    Math: 800
    Overall: 1500
That being said, the first modules on the October SAT weren't actually that hard, but the harder modules were considerably harder than any of the practice tests on bluebook or course challenges on Khan Academy.
Text passages were longer and vocabs in the first part were just words you didn't know and even hard to deduct in context.
In Math I know there are 3-5 questions I had to guess because I either didn't know how to do them or I didn't have enough time.
I talked to a lot of people both in my testing Hall and online after the SAT and and I barely found anyone who thinks that the difficulty on the Oct SAT was comparable to any other SAT/practice test. So judging by that the "curve" should benefit a lot of people but if it's indeed only a 10-30point increase overall, then it won't really make a difference.
That's just our experience here in Germany, perhaps the test were a bit different elsewhere? Although I doubt it ...
    Anyway, thx for the Video!

My son thought the October test was easier than the August. Before the August test he did 30 hours practice, 3 paper practice tests, and DSAT practice test #1. He averaged 1480 on the practices but only scored a 1370 (R 680, M690). Since August he completed practice DSAT tests 2-6 and reviewed any wrong answers. He said he felt well prepared for the English on the October test but the math section still had three questions that were like nothing he had seen on all 6 practice tests. On the August test there were 8-10 math questions on Mod 2 he had difficulty with so hoping only 3 will mean a better score.

"If unpretested child questions are 'easier' or 'harder' than expected, the equating process adjust accordingly".
Can you clarify where this is stated by College Board? Otherwise, without more information, I feel like this is speculation. It could be true, but the ISCA could also be used to as a barometer to maintain a certain margin of error for whatever algorithm they use to produce future scales. I'm not entirely sold that College Board is adjusting scales to offset a 10-30 point shift in the average on any given test; I think they're more concerned with maintaining bell curve across several tests.

I felt like math questions on module 2 were all seen before in practice tests and I didn't have almost any problems with none of the questions so I wanted to ask someone if they know: Did we all have the SAME questions or not beacuse a lot of people I talked to after the test said very different stories about the questions?
Thanks and we will be back on 18th October (I hope).

Hey prepworks, this is my fourth SAT, my last one I got a 1490. I tried to lock in points for math to get an 800 but thinking back on the test, I realized that I messed up on one math question. While it may not sound like a big deal, what makes it hurt is that I initially put down the right answer, but when I checked over it, I changed my answer at the last minute. Would you think that I can still get an 800 or would I get points off for this question. I think that this is the only question that I messed up on, and it was on the Math Mod 2 middle section

Hey! Depending on the question, you may still get a 800. If it was a rather difficult question, you have a good chance of it not deducting as many points. There are also experimental Qs!

I got a crazy hard triangle problem in the first module, I don't know if it was experimental or not but I just remember everything else being cake and then like question 15 felt literally impossible. It gave really weird data and was like a triangle in a triangle, and then gave one length and a cos of an angle and asked for a tan of another angle like what???? and then it was open-answer so I spent 25 minutes on it and just ended up guessing (from a 750 scorer).

I am rather scared i will be scoring in the high 1400s instead of my desired 1500 score. I predict i got like 4 wrong on reading( 1 wrong mod 1, 3 wrong mod 2) and 4 wrong on math mod 2.

Hey, this is the same process used for all the past digital SATs. It’s not new news.
College Board does their best to ensure that the unpretested child questions emulate the statistical qualities of the parent model.
It’s a very rigorous testing process, which in many cases, results in accurate difficulty classifications.
It’s great until there is an inaccurate classification. Since no system is perfect, and there are clearly evident flaws within this one, students’ DSAT scores get impacted.

      Straight from College Board: satsuite.collegeboard.org/media/pdf/assessment-framework-for-digital-sat-suite.pdf
      PDF page 39,40/227
In addition, College Board measurement experts perform differential item
functioning (DIF) analyses on pretested questions. This statistical method, in
brief, involves comparing samples of test taker performance to investigate
whether certain defined population subgroups (e.g., males and females) seem
to perform differently on given test questions. Assuming the premise that two
student samples of equivalent achievement should have an equal probability
of answering a given question correctly, DIF analysis seeks to uncover cases
where the performance of one sample (e.g., a group of students identifying as
female) differs from that of another sample (e.g., a group of students identifying
as male) to an extent unlikely to have occurred purely by chance. When questions
pretested for the digital SAT Suite exhibit high levels of DIF, those questions are
either discarded or revised and re-pretested
