I grew up with a Tamiya hornet. I had a major stroke 2 years ago causing disability. I love that he talks about models I can afford! Thank you for reigniting my interest in life again.
Like L2 said, pedals had cages and straps over the pedals called “toe clips.” New pedals have integrated retention mechanisms and have disposed of the toe clips, making them “clipless.” The new body mount systems have replaced posts, not clips, so clipless seems wrong to me. Postless would be a more accurate description. Daily rant complete. Carry on. ✌️
Racing the Micro B is so much fun. I’ve been getting out twice a month and racing it at the local Mini B/T Track. That’s a shame about the 1/20 MJX! It LOOKED awesome.
Feel your pain on the body breakage, ouch! :( Another great vid & happy new year Phil; looking forward to another year exploring the hobby & emptying my pockets with amazing new kit :)
I got my son one of those rigid pro's. You say those tires are crap, but in dirt grass and mud that little JJRC will flip itself from having TOO MUCH grip! 10$ for a set of oil shocks and that thing Rips!
Cheap pair of shocks and it’s great. I burnt up the ESC in mine. But it was so much better after replacing it with a 60amp ESC and new receiver/transmitter. And better servo after that went out.
Yes, the outrunner 1806 in the 1/20 basher is mushy, but fast. When you just drive and ignore it, it drives 80% normally and i still enjoy it. I may have to do a RX and ESC swap to get better control, but its not plug and play like bigger RCs, there will be some soldering as the motor is going straight to a Circuit board
Happy New Year Phil. I sincerely hope that you and yours have a Fantastic year. You'll hit a quarter mil subs for sure. Would like to see 300K. You've got a good vib happening, together with great info, variety and honest reviews, would be nice to see the subs sky-rocket.
Hopefully you'll be able to get that body repaired, Phil; I have great faith in your talents. Ans as for that terrible truck - first they ask us to put up with being forced to use their proprietary batteries, then they make the innards horribly inaccessible - and then to top it off they give us dreadful electronics! I don't understand why they imagine anyone would select their product, what features they think it can offer to offset all the disadvantages.
hey @TomleyRC those SCY cars are total bargain monsters as you know. you can upgrade them with some short WLtoys oil shocks for about $10 and they're STILL the best fun-per-dollar bargain going ... but I've heard rumours that the newest brushless ones are actually coming with oil shocks now! I hope it's true! another great video, thanks for the content!
Awesome bashing and review, Phil! 😂 Those Suchiyu cars are strong as heck! But I agree, they need oil shocks!!! Happy new year! Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
have 4 kids and got 4 micro losis for Christmas, we have multiple other rcs the micros see the most use. you can build tracks out of cardboard for them. they are barrels of fun.
Wow Phil, the thumbnail ia not fair to the JJRC whcih is a very good RC car. took mine out again today and itsaddens me to say that where driveability and control is concerned it beats all my MJX's by a mile!
You're the only RC channel I check with anticipation to see if you've made a new video, love your content. Your review of the wltoys with paddle tires got me into the hobby. Would love to hear your thoughts on the JJRC after you factor in the cost of adding oil shocks, slap on some paddle tires and take it to the beach. Pretty please with sand on top? I really love the look and price of that model.
Here’s the same chassis set up I reviewed back in 2023 & added oil shocks… along with paddle tyres 😇👌 th-cam.com/video/PLuYddl0Ab4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=FwVZWEXH8EJn96iS
Last few years I've bought 6 Tamiya kits I always wanted. Then I buy cheap brushless rc's to use all the electronics batteries and sometimes shocks and wheels. Way cheaper than buying separately.
If you want this thing for just the parts the Amazingone 1:20 scale truck is basically identical from what i can tell. Probably a bit cheaper than. The hypergo shell version. Rear mount for the shell that is also the rear shock mount exploded on mine so the body is not the best anyway. It is pretty quick, though.
that's the thing about tamiya: for the price you pay you're not getting any value. I was going to buy a kit TT-01 Mustang, no radio, no battery, no bearings, no shocks, and a piss poor motor for $200 cdn. Saw a review and with stock motor you couldn't get 20 mph out of it. PASS. At this point Tamiya is just resting on their reputation. The value for $ is zero IMO. (and I've been building tamiya since the early 80's)
@@muskokamike127 I bought a kit for 90 euros, (subaru 2004 tt01e) with brushless combi, receiver, bearings, shock absorber and paint, I came to 220 euros, not bad for the money and I have a lot of fun building and that thing rips!!!, I value building boxes much more than an rtr version 😊
If more people did what you did and shut the video down because the truck or car was subpar. We all win we get better RC cars at the end of the day. Thanks, Phil.👍🏼🔥😘
You can borrow some of our weather we had today here in Sydney Australia if you want. The thermometer in the back yard only hit 52.2c, or 126f for those metrically challenged people.
Ohhhhh nooooo!! Mate I'm absolutely gutted for you! I actually had my head in my hands and said ooohhhh nooooo! Out loud, one second I was laughing my head off, the next I felt like crying for you 😭. Fair play though Phil, loved the video, loved the Christmas Racetrack and it's title 😂. Brilliant work, sorry for your loss. 😮
I felt that when you hit the body, however it does make you aware that it’s going to really hurt if you crash it. I wonder if the shocks from the mjx might work on the rigid I know they would lower it, but that’s not always a bad thing.
I actually enjoy driving rc cars with very little drag brake, which is almost always a setting that can be changed. It tends to allow for more control in corners, using it in a 5 foot space might not be ideal. You just have to remember to USE the brakes, push the trigger forward.
Thats how I like my throttle. If I want to slow it down...I tap the reverse. I have a couple of RCs that are way yo aggressive on the slow down when letting off the throttle.

I ran the Amazon version called “Amazingone” (that’s how it’s spelled) and the front shock tower completely separated from the chassis. It also broke the left rear shock mount. It’s fun for light ramps, but it’s not a true badger.
Just come across a new UDI RC crawler. Wondering if you'd review it? UCX24 Pro, Looks pretty good, brushless outrunner with FOC, 2 speed, all metal gears, 4ws all for £100.
I really enjoyed this video. I was disappointed with the MJX based on the performance of their other cars. The Micro B look fantastic. I was at a carpet race and the Mini B's performed great. These should be no different. The JJRC basher has a lot of nice features and then they put on those crazy shocks. It looked like a lot of fun. I wonder if someone bought some cheap Amazon oil shocks how it would perform. (Hint, hint) This video turned to be a lot of fun except for the cracked body.
Hold down throttle with only the transmitter on and then turn on the esc once the esc beeps in one motion go full brake and then after the next beep go to neutral position. Just did this on the h16 and the braking is so much better.

Nice video man, those particular little MJX RCs seem to be junk. Hard pass, thank you for being honest as usual. Really want to get my son and I some of the Losi micros, they seem so awesome. Then the scy RC at the end - once fitted with oil shocks are pretty awesome as well. I built one into the rapid buggy with some other parts to run with my son when he plays with his Typhon Grom BLX and so far it's doing the job. The Grom is definitely more refined and quality but the little scy buggy keep up with it for the most part and let's us enjoy similar platforms together 😊
Phil that last car was awesome! Why not put some oil dampers in it and show us, and the manufacturer how awesome it can be? By the way, what car was that 1/1 scale Silver Ute you have in the garage? Love the show, mate. 🤓🇦🇺

Hi Tomley, I've been looking at the Trasped 1:64 scale alloy body RC car on AliExpress and TH-cam and was wondering if you think there worth modding.
Anything can be modded. Depends on you ‘skill set’ and patience!
They aren’t doing anybody any favors by introducing an odd ball scale!
I'm sorry, i think I've taken a wrong turn. I'm looking for the Ball Bag Bashing Facility (5:40) but i seem to have stumbled across some bloke playing with toy cars.
Oh, well. Times are changing. Back in my day, you wanted your ball bag bashed,.... you got your...
.... na, we still just bashed our RC's back then too. 💥🚙 🚗
🏎💨
Haha 😅
I wanna know more about your silver Ute Mr. Tomley
Coming soon 🤘
I have the same problem with my MJX… Mantains the throttle down for 1 second more every time… anoying…😢
They seen the jjrc 1/20 with the brushless outrunner
Yes 👍
Nice video man, those particular little MJX RCs seem to be junk. Hard pass, thank you for being honest as usual. Really want to get my son and I some of the Losi micros, they seem so awesome. Then the scy RC at the end - once fitted with oil shocks are pretty awesome as well. I built one into the rapid buggy with some other parts to run with my son when he plays with his Typhon Grom BLX and so far it's doing the job. The Grom is definitely more refined and quality but the little scy buggy keep up with it for the most part and let's us enjoy similar platforms together 😊
2:42 i need that shirt😂
Phil that last car was awesome! Why not put some oil dampers in it and show us, and the manufacturer how awesome it can be?
By the way, what car was that 1/1 scale Silver Ute you have in the garage?
Love the show, mate. 🤓🇦🇺
If they’d have gone to the effort of putting them on it, I’d have 100% reviewed it 🤷🏼♂️
Toyota Hilux is my new toy, will do a video soon
