I have the TL866A. I got it with every single adaptor imaginable. It does this and SRAM/DRAM to some extent. I think I made a good choice in this one. It has earned me plenty over the years so far. This video reminded me it had=s this feature. THANKS! This will speed up my diagnostics on three machine control boards.

I like the logic chip testing functionality of the TL866II+ as well, but I have recently discovered that its test vectors are not very comprehensive. I had a 74LS373 in a TI-99/4A which had a failing latch enable input, but the chip tested as OK on the TL866II+. I have then written a small Arduino based test rig and with that, I could verify the failure. The lack of any documentation regarding the test vectors that the software executes limits its usefulness and one needs to be careful not to rely on the results too much.
Ah, that's handy to know. I tend to use such tools as a guide more than anything anyway, only treating failures as certain. I've make a note of your specific case for future reference.
I have a tl866 ii plus , and there is no chips 74 in the menu at all, I added one of the chips myself. But it is strange that 74 is not there at all(

I wanted to buy a TL866 programmer, but I'm confused with the descriptions. There are "II", "II+", "mini", "pro", "updated version" etc etc in all possible random combinations, so I am really not sure what I would get if I pick one randomly. Some seller (let's say on banggood) says "updated version pro", some "II pro", etc etc. As far as I can see, there are important differences, which would be a must to know. For example newer models program more devices, but lack of 21V (IIRC) programming voltage needed for some older EPROMs. And in general, issues like this. In addition I'm using Linux since 1995 (I haven't even used Windows since version 3.1 ... my workplaces included!) so I'm also not sure if all versions are well supported, though I've found some github repositories with linux specific tools, in general (and yes, the possibility of wine, which was mentioned before me, as well).
I agree, it is a bit confusing. I ended up purchasing a II+ - inability to program older EPROMS was not a consideration at the time. With regards to Linux, there are command line tools, but not tried them. I have attempted to get this working in Wine, but am not terribly au-fait with it, so couldn't get the USB device drivers working.
I may tackle this in a future video; I've got an Ubuntu desktop sat under my desk, and I've not used Wine in some time. Assume you've tried and found it problematic?
@@BreakIntoProgram Wine is what seems to be the problem. I'm new to Linux and love it but I'm still quite green and I really have absolutely NO desire to go back to Windows at all costs. I set up wine for one program and it seems no other works and I'm not sure why. I've seen tutorials about it but most are way over my head. I'm a programmer and hardware guy for 40+ years but still have not fully grasped the Linux OS.... I will suffer through it if I have to because it's just superior in every way from Windows. I appreciate the reply! Thank you!
This programmer gives me nothing but problems. It keeps telling me "check device ID" when i flash the chip, NOT when i read it. If i uncheck the check ID, it will flash but it will not flash properly. If i remove the chip from the board, it will flash ok no problem. I dont get it.
Hi mate, you said in the intro that you used this to test PALs? I've had mine a while now and not really played around with it until now, but I can't find any PALs in the search list? I've got some old PALs and GALs that I wanted to check, but can't find them listed. I'm running the very latest version 12.63, on the TL866ii PLUS. Many thanks.

Would this be able to detect counterfeit IC’s? Got some from china that I would like to check

I would love to see you show us Linux users how to set up "wine" to use the gui. We can only use command line versions of the software.

I've not used mine for a bit; it did change menu location once, not sure if that was it.

Would you be able to use one of these to run a continuity and short circuit test?

Sorry I missed this. The bundled software is Windows only. There is a Linux/Mac command line utility for it though. Not tried it.
