He is an amazing angler with a great heart for the sport. Spend as much time as you can fishing with him while both of you can. I know you encourage him to achieve great heights and he certainly will become a great angler.

Hi, it is to conserve energy. By pulling on the rod only tires you out and you do not put more pressure on the fish, so rather straight stick it over the shoulder and conserve energy while applying pressure to the fish. This way you have the energy to endure the fight and to put more pressure when the shark is close without having a too sore back👌🏻 by walking up you are pulling it closer and then just walk down while you are reeling to gain line and repeat👌🏻
I thought something along these lines but when walking up and pulling the shark aren't you concerned about line breaking as you are pulling dead weight especially if drag is tight/ holding the reel
You are not forcing when you do that, you are just applying even pressure and when you feel it is necessary for the shark to take line you just let it go.
