You're certainly not the first to feel that the song didn't capture enough of the spirit from Tolkien's world, so no apologies are needed. It does tend to grow on you, though ;)

Hm... IT's perfect... BUT it's too modern sounding... It kinda puts it off from sounding otherworldly and unique... The atmosphere almost is deminished... BUT my love for the world and tolkiens lore for anglo saxon and english mytheology...~ I'm one of the biggest fans out there~ I am just not used to LOTR stuff being a musical... This is one of them that needs to be taken seriously and cared for delicately... You can't make it all broadway like this... Nobody would want it botched...

BUT most of the synthy sounds and the melodies of certain lyrics... REALLY hit home for me so I LOVE this.
