I found this musical when I was in 6th grade (around 2013) and LOVED it! I was disappointed when I found out it ran for such a short time and didn't even come to my country. I just recently started listening to it again and the soundtrack SLAPS, man!
What I especially like about the musical is that it's faithful to Tolkien's books. One thing that the film seemed to forget, was the fact that Frodo and Pippin are cousins. They never really shared a bond in the film as they do in the musical. Apparently this playwright knows LOTR, more so than the screenwriters of the film trilogy. That doesn't mean that I don't love the films. I LOVE THE LOTR FILMS! I just happen to adore the musical as well.
God, how I wish this could have stayed longer in the West End. It was the most spectacular show I have seen in my life. Went from Spain to see it twice!! LOTR the musical ROCKS!!!
Yep, the hobbits were in the audience when I was there - very funny! I didn't know they only did that for the matinee though. When I heard the show was closing we rescheduled our holiday to London and managed to get tickets for one of the last performances. Feel lucky to have seen the show.
I am a huge "Lord of the Rings" fan and I can't believe they made it into a musical!!!! Now I can't get this song out of my head because that was the most AMAZING thing I've seen yet!!! XD
Frodo is fatter than Sam because in this performance the role of Sam was played by an understudy (first cover). The 'real' Sam (played by Peter Howe) was more rotund. Frodo (played by James Loye on this performance) was quite tall compared to his fellow hobbits.
@acerflots Looks like SOMEONE didn't read the book. If you had, you would realize that hobbits are supposed to be fat. They eat seven meals a day and just sit around smoking their pipes. Of course they are going to be fat. The way they look is very close to the way they are described in the books.
Hahaha!! OMG! This is the most awesome musical stage I ever watched. I wanna watch it live desperately!! London is too far from Malaysia and the ticket so expensive..
I am so glad I found this amazing video! I have been wanting to see this musical for the longest time, but unfortunately it didn't tour anywhere close to where I live, and I cannot afford to travel halfway around the globe for this, as much as I would love to. It looks like an amazing musical, and I definitely wish they would make a video of it someday for sale... I'd definitely buy it.
I know it was quite an effort but I definitely wish they would restage the whole Musical. When I read about the musical the critic said something about dancing Hobbits in the picture that came to mind was shaking their little furry feet like Thumper in Bambi and nothing as wonderful as the segment's I've seen on TH-cam.
I went to see it twice, none of them was a matinee, and the Hobbits were there, catching fireflies and playing pranks on the audience ^^ I even "clapped feet" with Rosie! :D
I actually am a performer, so I DO know something about it. I know it's tough not to go flat, tougher still to be able to tell during performance that that's happening, yet I know it's possible.
There's an inn of old renown Where they brew a beer so brown Moon came rolling down the hill One Hevnsday night to drink his fill On a three-stringed fiddle there Played the ostler's cat so fair The hornéd cow that night was seen To dance a jig upon the green Called by the fiddle to the middle of the muddle Where the cow, with a caper sent the small dog squealing Moon, in a fuddle went to huddle by the griddle But he slipped in a puddle and the world went reeling Downsides went up, hey! Outsides went wide! As the fiddle played a twiddle, and the moon slept 'til Sterrenday! Upsides went west, hey! Broadsides went boom! With a twiddle on the fiddle in the middle by the griddle, and the moon slept 'til Sterrenday! Dish from off the dresser pranced, found a spoon and gaily danced Horses neighed and champed their bits, for the bloodshot moon had lost his wits Well, cow jumped over, dog barked wild! Moon lay prone, and sweetly smiled Ostler cried "Play faster, cat, because we all want to dance like that!" Gambol and totter 'til you're hotter than a hatter And you spin all akimbo, like a windmill flailing Whirl with a clatter 'til you scatter every cotter And the strings start a-pinging as the world goes sailing Downsides go up, hey! Outsides go wide! You can clatter with your platter, but the moon slept 'til Sterrenday! Upsides go west, hey! Broadsides go boom! With a batter and a clatter, you can shatter every platter, but the moon slept 'til Sterrenday! Fi-fo-fiddle-diddle, fi-fo-fiddle-diddle Hey-yey-yey-yey-oh (Hey-yey-yey-yey-oh) Hey-hey-din-gen-do (Hey-hey-din-geli-do) Hoo-rye-and-hotta-cotta-ho (Hoo-rye-and-hotta-cotta-ho-ho) Hotta-cotta-hotta-ko (Hotta-cotta-ko-cotta-ko-ho) Fi-fo-fiddle-diddle-hi-ho (Fi-fo-fiddle-diddle-hi-ho) Ho-fidlee-ding-galley-do (Ho-fidlee-ding-galley-do) Hoo-rye-hoo-rye-oops-oops-ay (Hoo-rye-hoo-rye-oops-oops-ay) Hotta-cotta-hotta-cotta-mi-fo-fo (Hotta-cotta-hotta-cotta-mi-fo-fo) Hotta-cotta-hotta-cotta-hotta-cotta-hotta-cotta-hotta-cotta-hotta-cotta-mi-fo-fo Downsides go up, hey! Outsides go wide! With a twiddle on the fiddle in the middle by the griddle, and the moon slept 'til Sterrenday! Upsides go west, hey! Broadsides go boom! With a batter and a clatter, you can shatter every platter, but the moon slept 'til Sterrenday! Hey!
I love this video!! ^^ Thanks so much for uploading it! I've watched it far too many times already. You didn't happen to film "The Road Goes On" or the part with the Ents by any chance? I'm just dying to see how those sections looked since I've heard several audio versions on here.
I just want to see the musical! :/ do eny of you know if there is a dvd ? couse I couldn't find enything about that I only found out that there are sountracks, but no dvd
@sortsius But not everyone CAN watch musicals LIVE. I've seen it live but I like watching this video for the memories. You can't b*tch about the people who will never get a chance to see it because it won't come near them, or the people that just want to remenice. Those who ARE watching this video jsut because they can't be arsed to go see it, I completely agree with.
@mizlovermizanin ummm they didnt make him look bigger, to look fat, they made him look bigger so that they looks slighty smaller/shorter and hobbit like. ud know that if u watch the behind the scenes programs.
I was Privileged to see this most Awesome of Musicals a few times including the Emotional final ever performance and it remains the Greatest experience of my life. 😊 It filled me and still does with Sheer Happiness and Emotion especially when the Lady Galadriel is singing Lothlorien it Makes me Cry real tears of Emotion deep inside me ❤️ I have been searching since it sadly finished for a Copy on DVD to buy, please if anyone knows where I can get a copy you would make an Old Man, Very Very Happy indeed. Fuck the Critics that was Negative to the show.
@mizlovermizanin You're basing the characters' appearance on the movies aren't you? The movies are only Peter Jackson's interpretation of how the Hobbits should look. But as is also stated above, I think Hobbits are generally pretty round shall we say? ^^ Likely Frodo included as he was the nephew of Bilbo and thus probably pretty well to do.
Which has nothing to do with anything we were, theoretically, talking about. Congratulations on your skin color, friend, but I don't really care. Say something productive or stop talking to me.
I'm so glad i got to see this show....did anyone see the matinee with the pre show where the hobbits were in the audiance chatting to people and catching fireflies in nets
people have problems with LOTR the musical... but you cant deny the music is by far the most literal and most tolkien of any adaptation...
Without a doubt,
This song is the perfect tavern song and no evidence can deny it.
It’s amazing that they can sing steadily while moving around so fast.
Suddenly I’m watching this and just learning about the musical in 2019 and I love it all so much
I found this musical when I was in 6th grade (around 2013) and LOVED it! I was disappointed when I found out it ran for such a short time and didn't even come to my country. I just recently started listening to it again and the soundtrack SLAPS, man!
The pure joy and chaotic energy of this song never fails to put a smile on my face!
That's some genuine Shire spirit, right there.
Please release the whole show someday someone
My parents wanted to see mamma mia but it was sold out, so they went to see this instead as my dad is a fan of LoTr.
They loved it.
Good to know. Hear about the revival? More simple production, but HUGE hit in UK.
@@southernlady5085 I actually haven't heard of it, thanks!
I saw this 5 times live. If it was still going, I'd still be traveling to London to see it!
What I especially like about the musical is that it's faithful to Tolkien's books. One thing that the film seemed to forget, was the fact that Frodo and Pippin are cousins. This dancing is amazing and you can tell they put so much effort into it.
Damned if this isn't one of the most fun musical numbers performed on stage I've ever seen! Oh, if I could only see it performed live!
I was privileged enough to see this musical live! Great job they did!
Yep, the hobbits were in the audience when I was there - very funny! I didn't know they only did that for the matinee though. When I heard the show was closing we rescheduled our holiday to London and managed to get tickets for one of the last performances. Feel lucky to have seen the show.
This is an amazing song... hands down to whoever wrote it! *applause*
Slumdog Millionaire's composer, A.R.Rahman.
LOL, I never knew hobbits could be so agile. I love how cartoony it all looks, like how they overact everything in a great way.
Lothlorien is my fave song from the show... but this is one of my others!! it's sooooo awesome! i can't wait to see this. :D
I have never seen anything so splendid before
I am a huge "Lord of the Rings" fan and I can't believe they made it into a musical!!!! Now I can't get this song out of my head because that was the most AMAZING thing I've seen yet!!! XD

I'll do anyting to watch this

I won't grow any taller... save for sideways
Hahaha!! OMG! This is the most awesome musical stage I ever watched. I wanna watch it live desperately!! London is too far from Malaysia and the ticket so expensive..
And it's been closed for six years..

WOAH!!
IT IS GREAT!!
Everyone in this video looks like they’re having the time of their life
I actually am a performer, so I DO know something about it. I know it's tough not to go flat, tougher still to be able to tell during performance that that's happening, yet I know it's possible.
This needs to come to America
There's an inn of old renown
Where they brew a beer so brown

Called by the fiddle to the middle of the muddle
Where the cow, with a caper sent the small dog squealing

But he slipped in a puddle and the world went reeling
Downsides went up, hey! Outsides went wide!

any chance there is the rest of this musical?
I love this
omg do you have more? thank you so much!!
Aaaw i do find thw hobbits cute and this number is amazing. I just have difficulty telling them apart. Like who's who
@acerflots well, hobbits are generally speaking pretty stout creatures. the prologue to the fellowship of the ring goes into pretty great detail.
You can buy it in a record store or order it over the Internet from Virginrecords for an exampel. PSA
I always wondered by (it's either Merry or Pippin) doesn't have a cloth at th end of this video XD ♥
I’m sorry........... why was this play a flop??????? It’s obvious they put so much into it.

Oh i just dreaming of being a hobbit
JUST WANNA COME ON HERE AND SAY THE SHOW IS GETTING A REVIVAL IN LONDON
In Bagnor, Newbury, aka in the English countryside. But YES it's back!!
That's fine, at least you filmed my favorite song!
@mizlovermizanin
ummm they didnt make him look bigger, to look fat, they made him look bigger so that they looks slighty smaller/shorter and hobbit like. ud know that if u watch the behind the scenes programs.
You mean at the Prouncing pony? The answer is YES!!!
Anyone know where you can get a recording of this song?
I remember thinking this was the one song they really nailed...I love it.
Hey do you have anything else of the show??? I live in australia so I havn't seen much of this show!
simplemente magnifico... estupendas acrobacias y la canciòn me facino... XD
I was Privileged to see this most Awesome of Musicals a few times including the Emotional final ever performance and it remains the Greatest experience of my life. 😊
It filled me and still does with Sheer Happiness and Emotion especially when the Lady Galadriel is singing Lothlorien it Makes me Cry real tears of Emotion deep inside me ❤️
I have been searching since it sadly finished for a Copy on DVD to buy, please if anyone knows where
I can get a copy you would make an Old Man, Very Very Happy indeed.
Fuck the Critics that was Negative to the show.

hey do you more footage of the show?
i wanted to see it so bad in toronto i was so upset.
@PiggyofGuinea when?
live, they always sing live in mt x
@dwezil65
sorry, but do u both mean The Prancing Pony, sorry to point that out
It's cool seeing a cat authentic to the heritage of the story. Nowadays if they did this it would be an all 🧑🏿 cast lmao
I agree with you
who votes there should be a film of the musical? :)
Can you please post lothlorian?
were u aloud to film this?
was this part in bree?
szrsplaythroughs yes
@dwezil65 and i think you both mean the PRANCING pony lol.
@LOTRFreakyFreak
The actor playing Sam (on this video) is an understudy. The "real" Sam was dancing much better. Sorry you missed him.
It was hard enough to film this clip, so sorry I don´t have anymore.
Plus, from what I've seen and heard this musical is no longer playing...
The Hobbits have shoes on.
They're decorated to look like feet. It's not easy to tell in this video.
No off course
yeh makes u think doesnt it :]
nice head person...
fucking human giraffe in front of you >.
Are they hobbits or leprechauns?
ali abdullah hobbits.. Thats what they are... you should check a book or the internet
Which has nothing to do with anything we were, theoretically, talking about. Congratulations on your skin color, friend, but I don't really care. Say something productive or stop talking to me.
yeah, and im black.....
I dont like people film at musicals. Im an actor and it would be better if people go and watch musicals LIVE, not at Utube
Its true even something as cool as the lord of the ring can be made to look gay by making it into a musical.
why the hobbits fat...? is it the actors or on purpose? if its on purpose its extremely lame
I'm so glad i got to see this show....did anyone see the matinee with the pre show where the hobbits were in the audiance chatting to people and catching fireflies in nets
