Grateful greetings from London, UK, in 2024. This video just saved the day. I needed to access a DVD urgently, so dig out my decade-old LG blu-ray player. Which merrily still played BD but gave me a "no disc" error. A quick dab of "Surgical Spirit" (British 90% rubbing alcohol) and 5 minutes later, everything works! Thanks for sharing the cleaning tip!
This is great! I wanted to make sure I knew how to do it properly before I even try. I didn't want to mess it up! LOL! Thank you for the information. It's very helpful! You know, if you don't want to lose the screws, get a small box, like a box where jewelry might have been. That way they won't roll off the table.
Thank you! It worked for my dual DVD/VHS player. I didn’t have a bottle of isopropyl alcohol, but did have some first aid kit 70% wipes which worked. I also used q-tips, non-scented baby wipes, and my lungs to clear dust I found inside. I also took the time to clean the little fan on back which was very dusty.
Thanks for this, I had another issue in that the DVD drive disc was found rolling around inside the electronics board of a 2nd hand dvd player. I did not know that the 'top plate' was removable! My DVD player is working well now thanks to this video :-)
Good job! You explained more n a few minutes than I’ve found anywhere else. I have a Toshiba giving me a message of “incorrect disc”. This hasn’t been used in years. I’ll give it a try and respond back. Thanks!
This is an excellent video! So clear in detail on how to open it up and clean the laser eye. So many videos out there are so bad with the camera shaking and they don't even show you how to open the unit up or what they're doing. I just bought a DVD/VHS player and the DVD just says loading but will never load, so I'm going to try this tomorrow.
Thank you for making this video, early indications are that it's worked. FWIW my machine had a circuit board overlapping the part covering the laser eye and I could only partially raise the latter for fear of damaging the circuit board. Fortunately, I still managed to get the Q Tip to clean the eye, but I didn't detect any movement of it like in your video. Again, much appreciated!
This is so simple, crispy, and to the point. Got the solution I needed. Got it with confidence I can clean the lens on my own. THANKS. Love from Bangladesh
Thank you - very clear and concise directions. It looks easy enough for me to try on my old Digilogic which gradually went fuzzy and now is not playing at all ...just when I wanted to start again with Downton Abbey!
Thank you my grandchild and I are now watching Mary Kate and Ashley thanks to your video we fixed a dvd player that was not working for months very simple explanation Happy Thanksgiving! Suscribed and look forward to more helping videos!!!
Hi thanks for your time and help. Does this include Toshiba 620 DVD player recorder . It first start to burn the disk and then it stops at 32 seconds saying not compatible but I Kno it is
Well done bro.. liked & supported.. very informative.. btw do you think plain water is fine for cleaning the dvd laser lens if I don't have rubbing alcohol?
Thanks for posting. Always enjoy these ‘How to’ videos. My Panasonic blu ray 530 played up before Christmas. But I managed to rectify the problem. I notice the discs have to be in perfect condition for it to play and any slight imperfections, then it won’t read them. This is compared to a 15 year old Panasonic Combi, which I have in another room which will play anything you throw at it. Frustratingly it plays the discs the blu ray won’t. I then came across a Panasonic store in another town, and had a chat with them about all this, and it seems that it isn’t always the lasers at fault. Apparently, the disc tray can slightly ‘warp’, so the disc won’t sit plum in its seat, so is unable to be read. On mine, I noticed the tray had a lot of play in it. And is a flimsy contraption for what was an expensive machine. And the life expectancy of these newer machines, I’m told is only a few years !! But I would always attempt a repair rather than just bin it.
Very good video, I have a Samsung combo DVD-V6700 that has not been used for 20yrs. I recently tried to use it and the TV screen shows "loading" and the DVD will not load. I had the cover off and watched as I tried to load the DVD and it keeps spinning and intermittently reversing direction, is this normal. The interior is very clean so I didn't really do anything, just watched. Is cleaning the lens the next step, is there any lubrication to do? Thanks for the video
I am disabled. I can't put the DVD player on a table. I have a spinal disc that is out of alignment so I am not able to stand up. I loved your video on cleaning the eye . Taking the eye cover off is very difficult. Can I clean the eye leaving the disc cover on?
Rubbing Alcohol is just fine & will NOT hurt the coated Laser Eye. Just don't saturate & soak it with too much - just enough to thoroughly wet the Q-Tip, then a light rubbing (don't "Grind" it in) & air dry will do the Trick.
Hi what's wrong is my 2007 sony dvd recorder wont record discs anymore, should I clean the lens or what else could be wrong please help thanks very much.
What if I have a built-in DVD player and it keeps saying my disc is not available?? But it does this with many different disc, and I’ve tried to clean my disc and it’s still not working??
Hello, I want to ask something. When I was a child, I have been watching pirated dvds (I live in Indonesia, where pirated dvds are easier to find than original one). When I put a pirated dvd in my Samsung player, it works. Yesterday, I bought three original dvds but when I put it on the player, it loads so long until it displays the message “This disc cannot be read”. I tried the other dvds I bought and it is still the same. I put it in my LG dvd player and laptop and it worked! But not the Samsung. I was so sad because the Samsung player I own supports Surround system but the LG player does not. I got the correct region (3) and the correct format too. There’s no dust or anything but why is it not working? Please help me answer this question.
Is it really important to use a manual screwdriver and not a power drill to disassemble? My DVD side isn't working and I may have messed up the first time trying to fix it about a year ago. Thank goodness my VCR still works. I've just been trying to get the DVD side cleaned but I don't know how to safely get it open. I'm not sure how long I should wait before disassembling this time after unplugging it. I wish there was a website to tell you all about this kind of stuff, but I guess they don't want you to fix it yourself lol
I did all these steps and it just keep saying err disc. Even when i put a brand new dvd in it. Any ideas on how to remedy this problem. The player is only 3 years old.
Yeah, some are ‘tamperproofed’. Panasonic, for example are in a sealed plastic case. But you may be able to gain access by prising open the spindle and the metal washer with a mini screw driver. You may then be able to get a Q Tip in at an angle to clean it.
That's a problem with dvd players if they get dirty in the inside your dvd get scratched or skips is annoying I'm sure soon they will stop making DVDs and dvd players I wonder how we going to watch movies? Maybe on Netflix I don't have an account I do have tubi but movies get removed all the time there other services to watch movies I don't like I do have thAt google play movies and tv thing that I used to buy movies and tv shows but movies and tv shows are expensive so I just stopped buying movies from there I guess tubi it is I only watch movies when all the good movies are back the rest are old and boring movies
@@PickRoll Just stop playing altogether regardless of what is inserted into it. Error card or no disc won't go away. I know no place I can take it to, and I cannot buy new ones as I could twenty years ago. I saw many videos after searching for them, and cleaning is always the sole recommendation.
@@TheNotverysocial Sorry I dont know. I'm not a repair guy, I sell these sometimes and just know how to clean. fyi you can buy on ebay, many always for sale
laser lenses are coated and should NOT be cleaned with any kind of alcohol! Use demiwater instead. And also make sure the lens is cleaned both sides (which is easier said than done0.

Im 65 and actually took my blu ray dvd apart and cleaned it. Wow I really did it. Go granny go☺️
Awesome!!

Alcohol is best because it dries very fast, water takes a long time and can cause corrosion. if using water must be very very little

What percentage of rubbing alcohol should I use to clean the laser eye?

What's wrong with using a CD/DVD disc lens cleaner, no disassembly required?
Its worth a shot first. This is an option if that doesnt work, or if someone doesnt have a disc handy.
Can I just spray some All purpose cleaner on the one end of the Q tip ? 🤨
Not sure, alcohol was suggested to me because it quickly evaporates, = no film/streak on lens.
