Three terraces of houses were actually built at Arthog by Solomon Andrews: the one you have shown, Mawddach Crescent, as well as Arthog Terrace and St.Marys Terrace.
Absolutely stunning Paul. Your filming is superb, gorgeous scenery what a beautiful part of Wales. The row of houses are stunning, & very private! Yes I could live there. Fab video interesting story thanks PAUL, ❤😊👍
Those houses are stunning Paul, probably best for them that the resort wasn't built. You mentioned Ravenscar which was very similar. Round here we have west Runton and Mundesley which although are small resorts both had plans to be bigger with the stations having land to make them bigger or in the case of Mundesley a big stati7for a very small town
Just watched this on the big screen, the quality of the camerawork was 100% Paul, it felt just like being there and walking along with you. Fantastic mate I guess many folk will relive past memories when watching this
Another cracking video mate, and only just across the Bridge from me Barmouth, the two look out huts are Sentry Posts for the RM, also the Mawddach Crescent houses during the the war billited the Royal Marines upstairs whilst the occupants lived downstairs there is a firing range not far from there, also in the area as well as Iceland Camp Arthog there was, Burma Camp Llwyngwril, Crewe Camp Barmouth, Matapan Camp, Ynysymaengwyn, Gibraltar Camp Llanygryn,
Such a beautiful spot, it's kind of a good thing that it never took off as a resort, or quite a bit of that would have been spoiled. Saw railway walk on BBC4 recently there which prompted me to have a quick look into the history of the houses. Nice drone footage, and gorgeous weather again.
Glad you made a video around Fegla Fawr, I put a comment about this as an amendment to your Morfa Mawddach Station Video before you had put this one on your channel. There were two tramways in the area the one you featured started at a quarry above Arthog on the Fairbourne Side near Bwlch Gwyn Farm. This crossed the road before the turning to Morfa Mawddach on the Dolgellau to Tywyn Road it went down to Morfa Mawddach. I believe it was closed having fallen into disuse when Barmouth Junction Station was built as it went right through the middle of it. The alignment went across the bridge you featured at 3:26 at about 3:19 the Tramway had its own station built after Barmouth Junction Station had been built which subsided into the stream near where it went under the Bridge, there is a photograph of it which I saw back in the 1980's. There were a number of Junctions on the tramway with part of its course going round the back of the houses on the alignment of the current path. I was sorry to see that you can no longer walk in front of the properties, you used to be able to, they are very impressive when your in front of them and much taller than is obvious from the side elevation, You are correct one of them did collapse through subsidence, I think it was to the right of the row shown at 08:43 the Dolgellau end, (when I can find the correct book I will amend that for you if necessary). There was a prisoner of war camp built on Fegla Fawr that was confirmed to me decades ago by someone who lived in one of the houses. The little buildings at 06:54 were built by the military as look out posts. All the concrete structures on Fela Fawr are related to military use, Fegla Fawr itself has a very interesting past which I detailed on your Marfa Mawddach video in my comment in reply to yours.
Absolutely loved that slightly different style of content. I was thinking you certainly had top drawer weather in Wales this year! Love the passion you have for the area and you recounting the memories and nostalgia from your childhood holidays. Makes me hope my kids will be able to do the same :-)
Paul, Great video! The Mawddach Estuary area continues to amaze me, and to top it off, one can ride the rails to get there. Also, it's good to hear your holiday ended on a better note this year compared to last. ;) Cheers, Scott
My favorite spot for sea swimming. if you go on the Fairbourne miniature railway get a family ticket and ask them to do it through gift-aid. They don't pay tax on it and you can use the ticket for 12 months!
Holiday there in 60s stayed in Towyn with Mum and Dad..swam at Fairbourne and Barmouth super beaches..
A great video and a good story Paul great scenery to.
Cheers Chris 👍
Remarkable story, & a great video, Paul....thank you

👍 Great stuff. I didn't realise about the Arthog terrace. We stayed across from those. They look so different.

Thank you Carol. Such a nice place to photograph and film. Spoilt for choice where to point the camera.

Thanks ever so much David. Nice sunny weather and beautiful surroundings. Makes it a pleasure to film :)
You're certainly getting your moneys worth from a week in Wales, Paul! Brings back memories of goint to Fairbourne as a kid. 👍
Nice one Ian👍
Yeah the weather was kind 😊
Interesting video. Barmouth Junction (Morfa Mawddach) station has always fascinated me. What a sight it must have been before the Ruabon line closed.
Agreed. It's hard to imagine these days isn't it
@@WobblyRunner Yes indeed. Someone put all their hard graft into building it all and another came along and threw it all away.

👍 you're right. It's hard to imagine just how different it would have looked. I guess nature won :)

😊 cheers Scott. Yeah this year more than made up for last year.
Though I could have done with the weeks off work like last year 😄

👍
There had been a dispute about the footpath going in front of the terrace.
Was just reading about that on the news. Lots of appeals etc.
