Prayers up for Tom Meents after he was shaken up from this very scary wreck here in Indianapolis. 🙏🏻🙏🏻 - บันเทิง
0:23 announcer had the absolute worst timing saying that
That’s crazy
no comment...
Yeah no kidding
Not so much bad timing but bad judgement. Maybe she didn't quite grasp the gravity of the situation.
@@user-yy1rs3df3q Still on her.
Dude you are a true fan like me. Been loving Tom since monster patrol days!
Monster Jam has changed. Thank you for everything Tom.
Max D fan since the inception with GOLDBERG 💪
That was a rough landing, for sure! But the “Oh No. Text Dad!” 2:30 cracked me up.
Thank you Tom Meents, for the commitment and sacrifices you've made to all your loving fans worldwide for so many years. Not just entertainment for us, but an inspiration for anyone who thrives to do what they love. Your relentless lifestyle as a Monster Truck driver has been a gift for many of us. I'll never forget the personal experiences you've given me AND IM NOT ALONE
Wait so he retierd?!
@@Kirbyleo114 who said he retired?
@@LorneSaubel sorry i was panicking
@@Kirbyleo114 if he’s getting some tests done in the hospital and surfing TH-cam to look at his accident, don’t you think he would like to read something positive in the comments rather than… what’s there…
@@LorneSaubel true
The stadium commentators could have respectfully cut the hype, while the emergency people were extracting Tom from his truck. I mean- the guy's condition wasn't yet known- he may have been really hurt- and all they can do is HYPE, HYPE, HYPE! Pathetic.
My heart sank watching this live.
Same. It was so bad.
In anaheim?
@@lowslowcrawlers1304 Indianapolis last night.
The arena should have been silent during this...not blasting the loudspeaker...cheers should have been reserved til after getting Tom out!!
I think most people are under the impression that the frames on these things are indestructible. I was there with my sons, I'd say about 75% of us stayed until we saw him stick his arm out and wave and Max D was off the field. I was surprised the announcer seemed oblivious, but maybe she isn't supposed to speculate to the crowd if something is going wrong.
You need to remember that their target market is kids. Don't focus on the accident but something more possessive. It's a show and all those involved understand that. Pro wrestling is the same.
Hope he will be ok. Thanks for posting this.
And the guy doing the commentary drove me nuts. Oh man oh man
All right already
I am blown away by the careless manner in which the crew flipped the thing back over! In any other form of motorsports, they take great measures to gently turn the vehicle over. Just slamming it over uncontrollably risks doing major damage to the driver in the case of a spinal injury or other injuries. There’s no excuse for this happening, and it’s not like they didn’t have enough equipment to smoothly execute the rollover! Obvious that they got a bunch of foamers running the equipment but zero crash response training! Mentz should sue the crap out of this organization for this!
It weighs 18,000 lb and is 16 ft tall. There's no way to gently flip it back over unless you bring in a crane which would take a hell of a lot longer than flipping it over. As long as he's still in the driver's seat strapped in with his head and neck restraint in place he's fine. It's a chance they take they know this. There is no easy gentle way to flip something that heavy and with that high of a center of gravity over gently
@@mikeprimm4077Any sane responsible rescue person would find a way to extract the driver without flipping the vehicle over and causing more injuries. That includes cutting their precious little truck apart. Ridiculous.
@@ferdburful6352 Tom dislocated his neck from this.. therefore they didn't wanna remove him
@@mikeprimm4077 For starters the trucks weigh 12,000 lbs not the 18,000 you claim . furthermore any operators worth a pinch of salt should be able to turn the vehicle upright gently using, wait for it...... 2 machines. One to pull and one to stop the crash and bounce. We do it off roading all the time to not inflict more damage to the machine.
If they didn’t flip him over he will have blood rushing to his head that could have caused more damage. Which I can see why you are upset by them flipping him over like that, but they would need powerful saws to cut the frame (roll cage) to get him out which would take more time than just flipping him over, also a lot of blood flow to the head will most likely cause death, so they needed the fastest way to give him a steady blood flow. Also it is very tight in the cab so it will be a pain getting him out (at this point he will have a lot of blood in his head) also if they disconnect him from everything upside down he can drop down landing on his head making his injury worse.
This is probably one of the scariest crashes in Monster Jam history hope he’ll be okay
2:42 Tyler’s concern about Tom
I hope Tom will be ok and this sucks that this happened on his final tour😢🙏
It sucks he is retiring man what a show that dude puts on!! Is someone taking over the truck or is max D done
@@aaronhobart6223 his son Colten Eichelberger is currently filling in for him
@@Monster-truck-stuff-123 Colton’s just not the same
As of the day I'm writing this note, Monster Jam posted an update saying that Tom's injury will keep him out of the truck until he's fully recovered.
really hoping hes just shaken up and not injured. that was a nasty landing..
Fractured neck if you didn't see his Facebook post
@@GraveDigger35And the jackasses flipping the thing over uncontrolled added massively to the injuries he’d already sustained!
@@GraveDigger35 So he fractured his neck and they just roll the truck over like they did with him in it. There is every chance they made his injury worse.
@@waynasfamilyadventures147 pretty sure the guy in the tractor had no idea, also they wear the HANS and are strapped in real good, so I doubt that it made it worse
He landed right infront of us. Was so worried about him. Kinda pissed that they just kept the show going.
Why wouldnt the show roll on? He wrecked but seemed ok and was waving to the crowd as he was still in the seat being pushed off. I could see your point if he had to be cut out and rushed off to the ER or even worse.
he waved after 7 minutes of the crash happening, it was not okay.@@warrenmichael918
but, that was literally the last run of the show
@@warrenmichael918He was still in his seat because he didn't want to be seen leaving the stadium on a stretcher on a medical cart... They towed him backstage where they could extract him and take him to the hospital away from the crowd.
@@Studio23Media That may be right but the announcer wouldnt know this at that exact time.
He is lucky to be alive and walking after that. He suffered a dislocated neck, which I didn't even know was a thing.
damn, hoping he gets back to a hundred percent. hate to see it especially this season
Wished they would have told that announcer to shut up! Good grief!
The announcers are trying to distract the crowd to take their mind off of what just happened. God forbid they had to take the driver out on a stretcher or worse
That and Tom would have wanted to show to go on
As an announcer myself, I agree that they needed to shut up, or at the very least tone it down a lot. Yes, my job is to keep the show going and not cause panic in the fans, but I also have to acknowledge that something went wrong, and show respect to a possibly injured competitor.
The girl was bombastic and disrespectful, and obviously was playing the "listen to me, I'm special" card way too much.
@@mxslick50💯
I’m really surprised monster jam doesn’t show more respect for injuries the fact they keep going on with the show like no big deal is kinda crazy
Prayers coming your way I hope he gets better soon and feels better soon
Yeah, Monster Truck competition sanctioning body [United States Hot Rod Association] needs to wake up and have processes in place for medical care and timely extraction of injured drivers. That response was pathetic.
Why no emergency ladder systems?? Front loader with a fork platform for elevated personnel for med/fire?
Seriously, I couldn't believe they didn't have equipment to get up therem! They need a Mad Max scissor lift on big tires they can drive around and raise up to whatever height they need.
They clearly need to invest more into design to allow quicker access to the drivers by medical personnel.
Hope he's ok
They need some kind of Mad Max scissor lift on big tires that they can drive around and raise up to whatever height they need to access the driver.
Or put one of the rescue guys in a harness and lift him up there with that front end loader boom 🤣
Just a thought for the future, how about a platform on one of the loaders that can be raised next to the truck to work off of instead of hanging off sides trying to work one handed
I had a chute fail on my dragster and ran off into the sand trap folding my chassis like a taco. I was trapped for less than two minutes and it seemed like forever. (Just a dislocated hip and broken arm) The whole time I was watching this rescue, I was thinking the same thing.
I was thinking about something like that also
I was thinking the same thing. They need an easy way for rescue crew to access the drivers! Maybe they could build some kind of monster truck man lift vehicle to use.
The fact that the announcers kept talking instead of stopping to see what the hell is going on what the he'll so rude
We were just there. First real "oh shit" moment I've seen in MJ. I was legitimately fearing the worst. Old man got towed back and waved to us. The crowd's response was wholesome
This guy was so annoying wish he would just shut up omg. Great video but this guy had to watch it on mute
Thank You Tom Meents
Reminds me of the final show in the Silverdome. I was there live and the driver of Stone Crusher basically landed completely vertically and the truck just stayed there. Truck shut off, no movement inside, just still. It took them much longer than it did here to get the driver out. I was 8 at the time and it's still stuck with me.
That was Gary Wiggins I believe
@@george_2172yeah. He broke his back. Randy Moore was also knocked unconscious during qualifying when his throttle stuck and he crashed into the wall
@@dawhiteman1451 I remember hearing that Randy story too
@@george_2172 2006 was not a good season for him. Literally the next week after Pontiac, he destroys his chassis in Atlanta after a hard landing and has to rent a chassis for the rest of the season. His teammate truck was short lived as well due to the driver retiring to a back injury after 3 shows.
@@dawhiteman1451 I know it was unfortunate, I always like his team and driving, I saw him in Hampton and Virginia Beach in 2012
They wouldn't have flipped him over if it was super serious. He may still be injured but at least not life threatening. Hope he is ok and can get back.
Tom doesnt know what serious is. The man knows pain very well. No paramedics on site to assess anything before rolling him over, but being upside down so long isnt great either. Could be nothing more than a mild headache tomorrow and he just couldn't get unstrapped... Or he could be paralyzed at the legs from spinal injury. Just gotta give him love, hope for the best and wait for results. Nothing changes the outcome of what happened.
Dislocated Neck is what happened
TOM GOT INJURED?! TOM MEENTS JUST GOT INJURED?! NO! NO NO NO! THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING! NOT DURING HIS FAREWELL SEASON!
They wouldn’t have flipped him back up if he was severely injured
Guys a legend, he’ll be back soon
He got a little roughed up. There was cage damage which was why he wasn’t able to get out. But I imagine there’s a chance he’ll sit out the next show
@@brucelarrow7897actually… if he was severely injured, leaving him in would be the best thing because his head neck and d back are completely restrained. If he has a head neck or back injury, trying to get him out could potentially injure him further.

The fact it took medical like 3 minutes to get there and they waddled there overweight asses over to a truck neither can physically climb into is insane. Also, maybe add a ladder to the tool kit.
OH NO!
Can't get banged up when you are in your 50's. Injuries last a very long time at that age.
Tom broke his neck. My dad is the recovery specialist. He rolled over the trucks (big guy in orange)
Is that actually true?
I hope not. But how could they know this?
@@MackBullDogMackyes, the truck was so damaged they ended up taking Tom out in the tunnel .
my dad comes home every week, we always talk about the show over dinner and he brought it up.
@Meatball626 so if he broke his neck surely there would be more action taken?? And Tom waving to the crowd at the end and smiling 😂 if he actually broke his neck I'm sure he wouldn't be smiling and waving to the crowd?? Plus only 15 people actually assisting Tom?? If he actually broke hid neck and that was all that monster jam did that's shocking and serious action needs to be taken now without doubt
For anyone coming back to this and didn't see Tom's facebook post, Tom suffered a dislocated neck
Geez.... Never heard that before. 😬 Always a first.
@@dillonpierce7869 kind of a similar hit that basically ended Dennis' career
@@GraveDigger35 didn't know that's what happened thought he just stopped once there were his sons and daughter out there.
@@dillonpierce7869 yeah, Tampa 2017, he had flipped in racing and landed hard on the roof, which unknowingly to Dennis, crew and tech officials weakened the role cage in that area, and during freestyle he came out and did his thing, lost the body and then was going to go for a backflip, but there was an issue with the motor and he didn't rotate and landed hard on the roof crushed the cage down and injured Dennis' back
@@GraveDigger35 they knew better than messing with the cage anywhere around the driver. Weakening anyways.
Ugh, those landings on the roof are always rough. Pretty sure Dennis and Ryan Anderson both got injured the same way. Hope he recovers quick, I bought tickets for NJ this June hoping to see him perform live one last time. Get well soon Tom ❤️

The announcers carrying on like nothing was wrong was super annoying and disrespectful. I lost all respect for them
🤣 they didn't know anything at the time weirdo
They have crashes all the time and usually nothing is wrong. How is the announcer supposed to know, how is anyone supposed to know there’s an injury in the split seconds after the crash happens?
They don’t need to bring panic and attention to the injury, they have plenty of people there helping
The announcer carrying on is really professional. Turning away the attention away from the scene helps to avoid any kind of panic among the audience. These are the most important moments for announcers to do their job.
Can't believe the announcers kept going and didn't mention the accident at all
Pray for tom meents 🙏
I hope this isn’t a carrier ending injury like how Dennis Anderson experienced in Tampa 2017.
He was retiring tonight.
No he wasn't. He's scheduled til the World Finals
@@paulwilson4283 It's his last competitive season. It's the last time he'll be in Indy though.

I stood there filming that for a whole 2 minutes. Once he had his hand out the window I knew that it was still Tom Meents that he was good.
Still scary tho
I hope they arent cutting the cage open to pull him out. He couldn't get out on his own with his fans watching. For someone like tom, theres definately a problem. fingers crossed.
Brother, hoping you heal fast, well, and comfortably.
I think he got knocked out from the landing & sustained a concussion. That didn't look like a bad crash compared to 2 decades of destruction. I raised my kids watching Tom since 2013. He is their super hero & my idle. Our prayers are with you dude. 🙏🦾
Prayers to Tom get well soon professor 😭

I really hope he’s okay! I want to see him complete his final season!🙏
I’m amazed at the amount of unpreparedness ! So many walking around with their fingers in their asses. I’d have thought they’d have some kind of rescue squad on duty. Jaws of life could have had the cage off in a couple of minutes

I want Tom to be here this year in Nashville in June
This guy is messed up this is the only sport I’ve seen the announcer just keep the show going everything else stops and deals with crash WTF
That medical response time is concerning. Was super impressed with the San Diego team even on light debris clean up, this seemingly took forever with no drive movement initially & a visibly hard landing. Oof I hope he’ll be alright :(
If this was 10-15yrs ago it woukd of been a different outcome, just shows how good the saftey is today
He show must go on!
Even if one of the drivers is injured 🤔🤔
The way they rolled the truck back onto its wheels is kinda dangerous, especially after an accident like this where the driver is injured...

6:01 Wait, Where’s Tom though? I didn’t catch where Tom went, oh, he’s still in it.
Don't understand the announcer acting like nothing happened. Seems disrespectful.
You should never ever just flip it back over like that, unless it's on fire. If Tom had a neck injury, it could have paralised or killed him. I am a former track marshal and rescue unit member, and it was driven into us every year during training.
Do they get points for injuries?
no tom he is class
Looks to me like they should have 1 or 2 mandatory fork lifts with a platform that crews could be elevated to the drivers and be able to reach them , and have a platform to work from. Time in any situation and ease of access , are life or death matters. This here situation if needed , imagine trying to extract a seriously injured person , then somehow on and strapped immobile to a board , then lowered all without causing more or worsening their condition. A mobile lifting platform beside them would be 100% easier , and safer for driver and crew.
They really need to put running boards on the sides for the safety crew to stand on.
I hope and pray he will be ok.
4:23
3:33 “Tom Meents is fucked up!!!”
Video guy had much more awareness than the announcer 😢
From nascar crashes, I don’t like to speculate but that landing on the roof screams back injury.
4:41 there are so many crew guys working on him
I hope tom meents is okay 😮
Monster jam is a corporation they don't care about the drivers as long as they keep the crowd hyped and buying tickets they are happy this clip shows how they could careless
I understand they probably don't have the TV time to stop and observe the situation. But that was absolutely classless by Monster Jam to just pretend like Tom Meents wasn't shaken up in that wreck.
His brain probably slapped the top of his skull on that hit.
Also. Drivers are secured into the truck using ratchet locks in their belt harness including their helmet restraints. So if tom can't actually free himself, They would need somebody from the crew who actually knows where all of those restraints are to get him out. They should have left the truck upside down.
And god forbid something actually major happen, all them overweight guys weren’t much help, and looked like a lot of clueless people running around.
It's to keep all those kids from worrying. Keep their attention on something else.
thank god he is okay. was a pretty hard hit!
Definitely need to find a better and faster way to respond and get drivers out safely.
With all of the money spent on those machines, someone would assume that some sort of thought went into how to rescue and injured driver...
Damn he just announced his official retirement 😢
