@MrDrPfrPatrick For main mode and ironman accounts: yes, all items and the Hunter's Kit are kept safe on death. If the Kit if not one of your three protected items, the contents of the Kit are still kept safe inside, you will just need to reacquire a new Kit. For Ultimate accounts: You cannot protect any items on PK death, which will require you to get another Hunter's Kit, but the items you are able to deposit are kept safe inside.

If you get PK'd, do you keep the huntsman's kit AND all the contents?
