I still have a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife that my dad gave me as a birthday gift back in the early 80s. I think that will always be my favourite no matter what kind of fancy knives come out.

For the Benchmade I agree with you. I don't see the day that I will buy another one. OVERPRICED. A knife with ultra cheap scales that if you press à bit both sides are touching each other at over 200.00 !!! No thanks

Taggedout and Claymore look like decent offerings. My first and only BM is the Bugout and I have to agree. Considering AWT scales for it.

I agree with you, for me the mini griptilian sheepsfoot blade with opening hole and one of the best benchmade. But the edge is thick and the geometry is not good so I looked for the old versions with 154cm steel, they have a hollow grind with a fine edge. Luckily I managed to find 2! Thank for your work 👌

The 0450 is a product of its time. It actually got me back into knives, it was right when the knife world started getting exciting again. We've learned and we got such an explosion of interest and feedback, and knives have evolved in a short time as well as my tastes. In the field it was born into it it had a lot of great features and the ZT's started bringing astounding manual action into production knives. I still like mine, but I recognize we've embraced a lot of refinements it doesn't have. Thick stock = wider blade, or you're just have a wedge

I remember your twosun 195 integral you used to love. I just happened to dig out disassemble and adjust mine last night, weakened the lockbar tension, threw in some skiffs, admired the edge I put on it awhile back. Still a really solid one I hadn't handled in awhile. I know, the stop "pin" placement is bad.

The Kershaw Leek was absolutely my gateway knife back in about 2001. I carried a few different knives for many years, & then in 2020 I got bit by the true knife bug & now I've owned hundreds of knives. Sitting here playing with my CKF Evo 4.0, while waiting for my Robjohnsons Cedar in Vanax to arrive here in a couple months.
I had lost my Leeks over the years & only about a month ago found a nice 14C28N Leek in like-new condition for $25 shipped from someone on reddit. Very happy to have it back, even if it is assisted, haha

Love my ZT0450. John at BGM fixed the blade with a mad hollow grind. $70 with BGM fixes all your issues. ZT has great service and would provide a warranty replacement blade if yours is soft, and they also provide free deep carry clips, just pay postage. Admittedly my 0450 has Devin Thomas Stainless Damascus which absolutely rocks!!

Spot on, Jared. 3 of these were the first knives I bought - the Bugout, the ZT0450, and the Leek. The Leek was absolutely the gateway knife. It took a while for me to figure out what I liked and if I had to do it all over again I'd stick with the Leek for nostalgia purposes, but not the other two. If I want a rear-flipper-only premium knife there are so many better choices than the ZT. The Bugout was so overhyped and widely recommended by EDC websites that as a beginner in this world I almost felt commanded to buy it. Should have come to TH-cam first!

My gateway knife was a spyderco delica. The o.g. one with the steel scales and a partially serrated blade in vg10. My uncle owned a pawnshop and he swore by spyderco and now 400+ knives in my spyders are still some of my favorite and most used/carried.

Good vid. Made me stop & think how my own knife tastes have changed over the past 30 years. My likes and dislikes have moved around over the years - some led to great purchases and some led to questionable (ok, stupid) purchases. I still have a laugh when I pull my TOPS Operator 7 out of the drawer. I'm sure everyone has some knives in their drawer that they loved at the time until reality sunk in and now they're dust catchers. Sharp blades all.

Glad to see you're back! Computer problems are solved I hope!
Also, this was a great idea for a video. You should do a video like this once a month. You've been around long enough that you got plenty of knifes to rereview. And for the folks like me who have been around a while it is neat to see how opinions change over time.
But this really should be a monthly recurring thing. Lots of people can't afford the new releases and so they go for the older models. A recent review of the older model knife would help them out a bunch. Just be sure to name the knives in the video title so people can search it out easier.
P.S. Benchmade discontinued the griptilian. I think Doug Ritter ended his partnership with them or the patent ran out or something. I forget the why, but they're not gonna be available to the public much longer if at all. Would the Ritter Hogue RSK-1 still be recommendable to the Benchmade bugout? Same design but better materials and craftsmanship but a higher price too.

    Hello Jared
I have a question for you. I know it could be hard to answer but I do😅
I started a knifes collection that will go to my grand-sons in May be 10-12 years. They will be like new
Never used, original boxes let say 10/10
The knives are: Cold steel 4 Max Scout, kansept fenrir Kansept kratos, Civivi Vision, Qubit, CJRB Frack, Spyderco PM2 S45VN, Vosteed Raccoon aluminium lock bar, Artisan cutlery Timacus S90 and many other Civivi and many more. In 10-12 years, they will be like vintage
Do you think that they will gain value ? If yes how much in % ? Thank you

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

No I do not, the only ones that could would be the USA made ones, unless cold steel discontinue the 4 max it won't. Knives that go up are going to be exclusives in the USA, or models that were discontinued while still being very popular. Some Chinese do but usually it's the USA made knives or Highly sought after models. Some models you can't determine, but some you can.

Fun looking at and using older knives in the collection to see how much you like them now as when you first got them especially how knowledge is gained through the whole process and our needs and wants grow as we grow into the hobby. My first knife I ever bought had made in pakistan steel on it (a Buck 110 clone) when I was a kid and like you said couldn't keep an edge on it lol, and many if my cheaper multitools were like that as well. After getting my hands on a properly heat treated piece of steel it made the world of difference how I viewed my knives and tools. Thanks for the great vid and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.
