I must agree. I listen to mostly symphonic/melodic black and death metal, but I have had many friends of the indie persuasion. Not one of them ever mentioned The Shins. The former and latter of what I just said before spans 25 years, I'm 37. The first time I heard The Shins was in a fairly old school Thrasher skateboarding video. I forgot about it. I think I heard one of their newer (but now older) songs "New Slang" via the show Scrubs. I'm not much into indie, but this band was obviously something special. I heard a much more recent song the other day... no, not for me at all, but their old songs are very good.
I think I'll go home and mull this over Before I cram it down my throat At long last it's crashed, its colossal mass Has broken up into bits in my moat Lift the mattress off the floor Walk the cramps off Go meander in the cold Hail to your dark skin Hiding the fact you're dead again Underneath the power lines seeking shade Far above our heads are the icy heights that contain all reason It's a luscious mix of words and tricks That let us bet when you know we should fold On rocks I dreamt of where we'd stepped And of the whole mess of roads we're now on Hold your glass up, hold it in Never betray the way you've always known it is One day I'll be wondering how I got so old just wondering how Never got cold wearing nothing in the snow This is way beyond my remote concern Of being condescending All these squawking birds won't quit Building nothing, laying bricks Hold your glass up, hold it in Never betray the way you've always known it is One day I'll be wondering how I got so old just wondering how Never got cold wearing nothing in the snow This is way beyond my remote concern Of being condescending All these squawking birds won't quit Building nothing, laying bricks
This came out after my graduation the last summer of adolescents. God to be this young, this nostalgic pain wells up in the depths of my being. Timeless ❤
i saw them in concert opening for B&S once and was stunned at how perfect his vocals were live.. like absolute pitch perfect.. this is much rawer and rougher… not sure if it’s intentional or his voice degraded or a monitoring issue..
I'm genuinely a big fan of them but somehow I don't like James Mercer's singing in all these KEXP clips... other clips on TH-cam e.g. 'A comet appears' blew me away but I really don't like how he sounds here :(
Yet another great recommendation from a manga.
The green yuri..
Easily one of the most underrated bands of all time.
Pro tip: you can watch movies on flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching all kinds of movies recently.
@Brody Brayden Definitely, been using flixzone} for since december myself =)
*prewatch scoff*
*edit: they pretty jammin’, mah bad.
One of the best songs of all time imo

It's a luscious mix of word and tricks...
Never betray the way you've always known it is.
It is, isn't it?
I love that line. Luscious is such a fun word to say.
That let us bet, when you know we should fold
That let's up bet when we know we should fold
This guy sings from the depths of his heart.
I love his voice in this
Awesome and BEAUTIFUL!
One of the FEW vocalists who have the sound of Robert Smith....and lyrics are so ELOQUENT.
Privilege Listen.

I was pretty much on a 10 year reggae kick in the 90's. Then I heard the Shins. Loved 'em!
1st time I've heard my favorite live & best.
I love these guys. This recording of this song is my go to music for so many different moments. Just damn awesome music.
I love this song with every inch of my soul. *_*
My favorite band.
So KEXP just kinda kills it out there huh?
Constantly finding myself listening to their in studio interviews/performance.
Best sound board in the bus
Wow! James is unreal! LOVVEEE YOOOUUUU!
Kicks so much more ass than the studio version even though I love both
a very special group of specialness....genii :)
Luscious.
I love everything about this video.
What about the tie?
what a great song!
If only I could fine a woman like Jessica 😊 insane how underrated of a guitarist she is
Kevin Spacey is so talented.
James Mercer
Greg Francavilla loved him in hot tub time machine
Lmao true
Don't speak so soon

❤ bring me here again
This song….wow!
Genius .
made my day
Perfeito!!!
very good performance !
Is the other guitarist's microphone muted? When she sings on the chorus you can't hear it at all
i saw them in concert opening for B&S once and was stunned at how perfect his vocals were live.. like absolute pitch perfect.. this is much rawer and rougher… not sure if it’s intentional or his voice degraded or a monitoring issue..
Sick guitarist, sick guitar color, I like fender doe. Sjd
Unreal
Moore Theater, and it was a private event
Moment in time
If I could go back in time to see a show, I’d be split between seeing the shins live back in the early 2000s or nirvana’s unplugged show
When the hell was this?! And how did I miss it?! D: And, this was at the Paramount or at the Moore Theater...?
Wow. Great song. (Transworld skateboarding sight unseen - montage)
❤
If there’s a better song than that I’d like to hear it.
Is that chick's mike on?
Don't think it is lol
Forgive me. Please allow me to review past Shins videos on youtube and other venues. I shall then review my comment and ponder it's originality.
this is really good, better than the album version
He looks like the lead singer of The Stranglers.
Garden State
Yessss❤
podobnie.
What about Dave, Marty, and Jesse?
Anyone else noticed that James always has this really painful look of worry on his face when he performs?
+Jared Prymont He does, but I agree with The Holy Father. (uncomfortable sentence for me)
He seems very humble and somewhat quiet in interviews. Maybe he's just shy.
He is known for being shy haha
Fits the lyrics perfectly.
He sings in a terribly high register, which might have something to do with it
mmm
I guess im a lezzbo now! Fuck!!
I can't hear the chick at all when she's singing XD but damn they good
drummer looks awfully like john mcentire from tortoise... face, posture, moves... but younger
RIP to the keyboardist
ladadaladi ladallaaalalldaaa;scde
The premise is that I do not find caring creepy.
I miss the old line up
Washington garage bands made the 90s!
Kevin Spacey?
that KEXP thing looks like the black flag logo
Daaaaamn were they rushing through this song that fast?? Too fast....good but too fast paced.
I'm genuinely a big fan of them but somehow I don't like James Mercer's singing in all these KEXP clips... other clips on TH-cam e.g. 'A comet appears' blew me away but I really don't like how he sounds here :(
