      The whole idea of the kindle was that it does need any light in bright sunlight ! I think people are confusing this tech with the phones, that need more light in sunlight. Definitely you don't need extra brightness in the night

      You could've gotten it for cheap and used it for a year by now. Like, I paid 105€ in 2021 and just sold it for 85€. These things are cheap enough and go on sale all the time, no use being afraid of new versions. Also, don't buy now, wait for Black Friday.

      @@KarlTheExpert the reason why I didn’t buy it it’s not only because I thought a new version was imminent but it’s also because I already have a kobo forma and a first gen paperwhite. I’m not into buying and reselling it’s just not my thing.

    I wouldn't call the white light kind of blue-white, because it's honestly a lot more warm-yellow. I've tried two of them now, both were significantly warmer-yellow than the 11th gen that it's noticeable along with the size. It was to the point were the first one looked as if warm light was set to 10-15% without having warm light enabled. The second was more like having warm light at 70%. However, both were also plagued with uneven screens and dead pixel's as well that I prob won't try a third as its hard to judge the cost for a worse screen, despite it being very fast.

    What puzzles me is why they have no Kindle with buttons. I mainly read while laying in bed and I use an Oasis with its cover on, as it helps the grip, although the two combined are rather heavy. If I were to lift my fingers to turn the page, it'd fall on my face. The larger bezel is perfect to handle, for the same reason. Ok, they abandoned the Oasis. How about a Paperwhite built like a Voyage? That was really amazing as well and I can see no reason why a Paperwhite can't come with a design like that.
    They've been implementing and removing buttons for years, just for the hype. I'm pretty sure a new device with buttons will come out, and it will be the 'best Kindle ever'. 😂
    The only problem with the Oasis was the price tag: personally, I could do with a lighter, less 'luxurious' version of it, without the 'premium feel', as long as it has buttons again. Probably, there will finally be another Kindle with buttons and it will cost an a and a leg, unreasonably. Thay make you crave for the basics and then sell it as luxury 🤷🏻‍♂️

      This is exactly how I felt then I found the nook glow light 4 plus which is everything I wanted in an ereader and more. And it has buttons on both sides as well and it just feels premium. If you want buttons I definitely recommend it

    • @BERO73
      @BERO73 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jacobballesteros4457 thank you. I normally use Kobo and Kindle, as they are sold in Italy regularly (I live in Rome), and I can get assistance if needed. I know Nooks are good but I tend not to buy devices that are not meant for Italy/Europe, in case I need assistance. Same reason why I don't buy devices from Boox, which I've heard makes good devices as well. I use a Libra Colour at the moment, an Oasis and a Scribe. I think I'm good enough for the moment 😎

      @@BERO73 Kindle won't go back to buttons. Sorry but most people just don't care. Two companies you can easily obtain one with buttons. They most likely will discontinue them as well. It's not that cost effective. So enjoy them while they last.. 😂

    • @Anth230
      @Anth230 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@BERO73 Well I'm pretty sure they won't. Not in the near future anyways. Think about it. Most devices don't go button less because it's a hyped fad. They do button less because it is cheaper to design and manufacture things without buttons (less R and D) and more importantly it also allows for a slimmer/smaller lighter design WHICH people value above anything else. When they went to integrated batteries in things like Cellphones/tablets/ereaders etc. Same thing. It allowed them to streamline the design of the devices. Think about how Smartphones have slimmed down the last 11 years or so.
      If Kindle were ever to go back to buttons it would probably be for like the Kindles 30th anniversary or something and they would release a limited edition or something. 😂
      But I definitely don't see it anytime soon. Amazon sells more ereaders than anyone else so they have little incentive to do it..

  • @chriswyatt9869

    I think people misunderstand and think of kindles like phones and expect large jumps in hardware/software and think they should be upgrading yearly/bi-yearly. Like if you have the last 2022 kindle, this probably isn’t for you. If you’re like me who’s running the 2019 basic kindle with 167ppi, no warm light etc etc - then these upgrades from that, are big and welcome. I’m looking to buy this soon because of that. If you had the last one, this isn’t for you. Some people expect too much. It’s an E reader, there’s only so much innovation you can do.

    I would dock points off this device for having the store show on the Home Screen and having a separate Library screen. Would have been more useful the other way around maybe.
    I suspect the image on the box shows the device with 100% light hence the extra whiteness. Would be interesting to see if the basic Kindle has a much better contrast than even this current Paperwhite. Not really much you can improve on this anymore - Colour is probably what every eInk device should focus on now.

      The cream color should actually be a lot easier on the eyes. Bright white can cause eye strain, which is why the warmer color is actually a beneficial feature for your eye health. Hope this helps! Im upgrading from a gen 5, so it should be a huge upgrade, but it really shouldn't be a huge difference from the 11th, so no need to upgrade anyway if you have that model.

      @@styrofoamandgasoline that's probably true but I can tell you from first hand experience of using an 11th and 12th generation that the cream color takes away much of the contrast of the text from the background. It also makes the black text look brown on cream not black on white. This was an unnecessary change because you already have the warm light feature on both units. If the cream is better why provide more warmth? If a first time buyer gets the 12th generation they won't know the difference but older users sure will notice.

The last 6.8 inch was truly pushing the limits of what could fit in a pocket, and I fear this will be over the line. What’s the material of the back part? My old Kindle Paperwhite had a type of rubber texture and it got sticky after a few years :(

    I've only had the previous paperwhite for 6 months so there's no way I can justify an upgrade. I strongly prefer the rounded edges of the screen. Hopefully they're here to stay and carry over to the next versions.

    How is this with unformatted pdfs like old library scans, photo scan pdfs. The 11th gen couldn’t handle them.. I’m curious if this can?

    Store experience is much much faster. It was a really laborious exercise using store from the kindle. I hated the change a couple of years ago when you could no longer buy books using your mobile phone. It made the amazon mobile apps totally redundant from my perspective.

    I am a fairly new kindle user.. one of the main reason why i didnt had a kindle before (despite reading a lot) is the price where i live .
    So a year ago, i bought a second hand (good condition) kindle 8th gen.. is there any reason to consider upgradjng?

    I just don't understand why they cant give the Paperwhite the Voyage treatment. I know they weren't full buttons like the oasis but I'm pretty sure they could add page turn buttons on the side of the oasis. Im so torn if i want to get the Libra Color or just keep my oasis. I just wish my oasis had the warm backlight honestly i want that more than anything.

    • @Anth230
      @Anth230 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not enough people care about the buttons. Just go for a Kobo or Noon while they still do it. But eventually in the future I doubt anyone will be doing them. It's not really cost effective when you think about it. How did people deal with paper books back in the olden days ..????😂..

    • @JBass33
      @JBass33 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Get one of those clip on book lights that has an amber setting. I did this when I had my Oasis with the non-warm screen. I later bought an Oasis with the warm screen setting but it’s pretty much the same light experience as the far less expensive book light with an amber setting. However, there is the inconvenience of clipping on the light. For me, the power button on top, the page turn buttons, and the full autorotation found on the Oasis means no upgrade for me.

    It looks great but with the color kindle existing...
    Why go for the paper-white and the color one?
    The base kindle in good enough for just black and white

    I currently have the 7th generation Paperwhite and I have some hot pixels on the screen. Not gonna ask if it's worth upgrading to this version as I'm sure it's like going from an old Corolla to a Tesla. Do you know if Calibre works with the 12th edition?
