A much easier way. 1). Cut 15-feet of line (recommended amount by Greenworks). 2). you dont have to use 2 pieces of line. You just fold the line in half. Its a bump head. Just tap the green head on the ground to advance the line. You did this the hard way.
OMG I should’ve read your comment first I did freaking 8 feet of line it just did not work. It is so complicated. I was about to throw this damn thing in the trash. I’ll take it out and put in just one line.
I have a new one that I just bought but do not aloud me to have the string longer than 5 inches. If I try to have a longer string then do not start. Is that normal? I saw in this presentation that the string went far more than five inches.
Excellent video and I can't remember if I've posted this extra tip or not. Towards your last steps, you don't have to hold the string to thread it through the outside holes or battle the string unwinding. On the string housing there's two small holes cut into the outside rim on the string housing. Those holes line up with the trimmer outer housing holes. The key is you have to leave enough string so that the string reaches those holes on opposite sides of the ring. Snap your string into those holes before securing the outside housing into the outer ring. Feed the string through the outer housing then give it a little tug to detach it from the inner ring and you are good to go! If you want, you can cut the string so that the outside feed lengths are even.
I have watched so many videos on how to do this, but yours is the ONLY one that has helped! I did exactly what you said and got it right the first time!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I think it was cutting the string into 2 pieces that did it! Made it so much easier!!

Hello Pat, I have the same weed eater/wacker, but the problem I keep having is that the string does not come out or advance no matter how many times I tap the bottom. I'm ready to throw it away I'm so frustrated...please help! Thank you.
Hi Rosie - I have the same issue. I was never able to get the bump feed to 100% work. We usually have to depress the button and pull the string manually!
I was able to do it by your instructions! Thanks so much! I do have a question. I accidentally at one point while i was trying to do this myself took the spring off and forgot to put back on. Now I can't figure out how to put it back in. I haven't even been able to take that part back off to get back on.... Do you have a video for that? lol
Hi Diane- glad the video helped. I am not sure about the spring, perhaps Google that or check with maker, is it Greenworks? Most lawn care tools are notorious for not being easy to fix or troubleshoot.
You don't have to cut the string into 2 parts, just cut 20ft and put the middle in the split ring. Second you put the two ends into the two cut outs on the bottom ring, that holds them to go in place as you put the cap on
Yes, you are correct, those cut out slots is where the string can be threaded through. I spool it without the slots but will try it your way next time. I also find the bump feed doesn’t work so well. thanks for comment.
I was lucky enough to be gifted the Greenworks 21" self propelled mower, 60V with a 5ah battery, and earlier today, picked up the trimmer and blower for $50. The guy I bought them from said the charger worked, but the 2ah battery was toast. I took the trimmers string cover off, and the string was a mess. By using this video, and reading your suggestion about using one piece versus two, I was able to re-string the trimmer, test the bump feed, and it works great. Thanks to the both of you!
Can someone explain to me what is happening between 4:45 and 5:00? "Like this" does not tell me anything. After the string is wound up on the spool, how to manage the ends, in which notch/direction does each line go? Which line goes to which notch, which side of the spool should be going in first (which side is up)? I don't know if I am inserting the spool upside down. My lines always get stuck.
Good evening, sorry I was not clear. at 445-5, I have the string wound in the spool. There are nubs that can be used to hold the string in place, that I did not use, as I held it with my fingers, but the line needs to stay wound around the spool AND the string needs to exit out of those holes, and the cover needs to be popped on. That goes onto the tool and gets "clicked" into place. I hope that is clearer, and thanks for watching the video.
Another question. The instruction says that hit the ground to automatically extends the line when operating? How does that work? I can see the center cap is worn out. If I hit the grpund when operating, the cap will eventually worn out. Is it supposed to be like this?
That is the self feeding concept that I could never get to work but it is supposed to feed the string forward if the spool spins forward to feed the string, which sometimes it does not feed it, sorry for confusion. You bump feed while the machine is running kind of slowly. I hope that helps, good luck with everything!
I have this exact trimmer. Im trying to put a speed feed on it. Im so confused, cant get the old head off. Cant figure out which bolt to use, do I use the spacer? Please help!!!
Hi Sarah- are you trying to get the head or cover off? There are tabs you need to depress to yank the cover off, then tge spool sits inside of the housing, is that what you are trying to do?
@@easlandscaping no sir. I have the cover and housing off, now I need the remaining piece off. It is where the speed feed will sit. I appreciatecyour help, I think we will get there lol
Hi Steven - both will work. I have strung .095 Hipa string, super thick, and that works. The .065 is easier to work with and is fine for trimming normal grass and weeds. Glad the video helped.
Thank you for the video. I have a greenworks trimmer which I have never used, but I have two grand daughters who bother need one and they have been borrowing it. I guess it works ok. But one grand daughter called me and said the string came out of it and so now I need to restring it. With this video I think I can do it.
Yes, the more I have used the trimmer the more it seems to act funky. The bump feed does not work anymore and the cap that goes over the spool is sometimes hard to remove. I think it’s just normal wear and tear on the jobs we do.
The spool thing comes out, the string gets re strung , spool goes back on, then cap goes back on. Maybe the blades come off on another model, when the cap and spool come off?
That’s a good question. Check on Amazon or even Craigslist to see if someone has a spare head. String trimmers are made very poorly and they do tend to fall apart after one season. Good luck with your search.
Very helpful, I’m in Home Depot parking lot about to go buy a replacement spool !!! Probably cost an arm and a leg !!! I have miles of this shit at home . Thanks for sharing !!! Only issue is your commutative skills are brutal!!!! Lol , was worse than watching paint dry !!!!

My problem is that the cover is so stiff that I can't get it off. I have the 48V trimmer, but it probably works the same way. I had the opposite problem on my Black & Decker. The cover was so loose that it came off as soon as I tried to use it.
I managed to get the cover off. The 48V only has one channel. I had lots of string left. Apparently, it wasn't feeding, though I kept bumping it while I was using it. Difficult to get it back in place, but I've managed to do that. I'll see whether it still works. It doesn't look like you can re-string it.

Thank you so much you helped me a lot to fixe my Machine
I've tried it that way all the time but I constantly have problems with it feeding out after bumping it. Might try this way see how I get on.
Thank You for the video. A woman loading the weeder needs to be simple. It was that.
Thank you for the detail. I stopped and started your video for each step.
Yep, some things just need to be looked at slowly, and then before you know it, you understand it. Glad the vid helped!
Thank you this video was very helpful for me.
Hello. Your video helped me! Thank you!
Thanks Pat. Great video!!
Hi Judy - glad it helped!
Thanks a lot for this video you explaining was amazing
You’re the best to teaching thx again
Thanks again for the video. Still helpful!
Glad it helped you, thanks for the comment.
Very helpful! Thank you for the explanation and the video!
Very helpful, thanks for posting this
It also helps that you put the other piece on first before putting it in the trimmer too thank you
Thanks! I'm unsure that size of string - .80 vs .65. Any thoughts?
Hi Steven - both will work. I have strung .095 Hipa string, super thick, and that works. The .065 is easier to work with and is fine for trimming normal grass and weeds. Glad the video helped.
@@easlandscaping You rock!!
This was super helpful. Thanks youtuber. 👍👍
No problem 👍
Thanks. This was a lot of help.
Glad it helped.
Thank you for the video. I have a greenworks trimmer which I have never used, but I have two grand daughters who bother need one and they have been borrowing it. I guess it works ok. But one grand daughter called me and said the string came out of it and so now I need to restring it. With this video I think I can do it.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you, this worked perfectlty~!!!!
How do you replace the bump Knob? I replaced the head of the trimmer for a cutting blade and now i can´t change back.
Got the same brand ! Love it< Except putting the line on ! Hopefully I'll try that *But in 1 peice of line ? 🤞🤞🤞!Thanks Though
Yes, yes one piece is probably better as it is easier, I suppose. Good luck!
Good job this is very helpful
Glad it helped!
Hey Bud Thanks for the help. Its still an all thumbs operation, but it really helped seeing the step by step!!
Glad to hear it!
Line won't advance. It appears that the string is wound properly. Any idea why it won't advance when I push on the bump?
Works for Toro 60V 51834T weed trimmer as well. Thanks!
How do you take the cover off?
Sick tight!!! I hate fighting these! Lol
that was helpful indeed, thanks!
Do you have issues with the green spooling button getting stuck? Or the line not spooling out properly? The only issues I have with this trimmer.
Yes, the more I have used the trimmer the more it seems to act funky. The bump feed does not work anymore and the cap that goes over the spool is sometimes hard to remove. I think it’s just normal wear and tear on the jobs we do.
Great video. Thank you!
Ready to junk mine can’t find new bumper parts
Is that a replacement bump knob on that trimmer ?
That’s the original knob.
we played a drinking game with the word "essentially"
Thanks for the comment, I love that word but use it too much.
Question how to replace the line with blades?
The spool thing comes out, the string gets re strung , spool goes back on, then cap goes back on. Maybe the blades come off on another model, when the cap and spool come off?
Do you know if it will work with any kind of string? The original breaks so easily
Yes, any string will work, basically any gauge or thickness, too.
Where can I get a new head for my 60v greenworks pro.....They are made so flimsy it was busted up in 6 mos..I can't find any parts..
That’s a good question. Check on Amazon or even Craigslist to see if someone has a spare head. String trimmers are made very poorly and they do tend to fall apart after one season. Good luck with your search.
Thank you I was getting pissed off 😂
Glad it helped, weed whackers are super frustrating to re string and troubleshoot, and anymore are made so cheaply they fall apart after one season.
Thank goodness for this video. 😅
Thank’s! Helped a lot!
Glad I could help!
you had your hand over the critical part where you cross the lines when you first put them on.
Ah, sorry about that. My video skills are not great, I hope it was helpful in some way. Thanks for watching.
Crystal clear thnx 😊
Glad the video helped.
Thank you for your help!!
You’re welcome, glad it helped
Thank you for this. I have been buying the replacement cartridges at a higher price and kinda crappy string.
Thanks very helpful
Does anyone else think this is the most remedial way to design a trimmer head system? My god, we had better tech in the 80's for trimmers than this insanely stupid design. Thanks for the vid. Going to use up my line and look for something not designed by someone in a Mexican insane asylum.
Stop whispering and SPEAK UP!
Couldn't agree with you more. It's an awful, cumbersome, unreliable design. Have it on my Toro 60-volt and I hate it.
Agree, most string trimmers, including this Greenworks, are poorly designed for heavy use and the parts are as cheap as you can get.
Totally agree.
Thank you SOO MUCH!
No problem, a lot of tools are not easy to maintain and can be a pain to figure out.
Dude thanks so much!!
Glad I could help!
Helpful, thanks! 😀
Glad to hear!
works great, ty!
Thanks Pat
Success! Thank you sir
Glad the video helped!
