Bonus crazee quails footage 😂. Thanks so much for voicing this. I have been reading some cringe expat comments on these issues - a bit embarrassing. You guys have the perfect attitudes for being expats. My family brought us up to be humble and to think of ourselves as ambassadors of our family, our community, our country. There's good stuff and there's bad stuff and you go through it together.
Thank you very much for the great explanation. I agree with you, Ecuador is a great place to live, even now with the inconvenience of the Power Outages, which as you said, won't last forever!
Thank you for this video. It needed to be said. We have been here for almost a month now and love it. Yes, there are challenges with the power issue, but we adapt and feel as you do. Thanks for being a positive force. We love your videos! 😊
Liked your first videos . Really like your recent videos . So informative in a real living in Ecuador way. I watched a 100 videos possibly 10,000 times preparing to retire here . The good the bad and even the ugl... If I was back there now . Yours would have been one of my favourite's ! My plan was to set up a home base to economically travel the world . But won't bother me a bit . If this is as far as I get. Well ... ok that's not gonna happen . But I was right . Ecuador is a great place to start . Gracias. Already looking forward to your next video .
Yep! Crazy stuff going on everywhere, no? I am blessed to be able to adapt my days…so much work lost for the Ecuadorians though… but we just get on with it as best as we can. The fires and smoky air inversions are still plaguing us here as well… the bomberos here, same with firefighters anywhere, are amazing, especially with such crazy terrain and limited resources. Everybody get up, sing and do your rain dances!
Thanks for this perspective. I had made plans, including an Airbnb in El Centro, which I cancelled. This would have been my first travel abroad in over 20 years. I just retired and thought droughts and energy crisis may not be the best fit for me right now. However, after reading about many places, Cuenca seemed like the place for me. My fingers are crossed hoping Ecuador emerges from these difficulties soon. Solor power seems like a solution that could harness the climate and transform the economy. I keep Cuenca in my thoughts, and hope to visit soon. Thanks again! I see rain in todays forcast (November 21, 2025).
Thanks for watching! It's definitely a difficult time here right now, but I see a better future for the country. Best of luck to you and your plans for retirement.
Thankyou my wife and I are visiting ecuador for the second time this spring to scout our relocation from GA USA really appreciate your videos where in ecuador do you live?
Not sure how long you have been in Equador. The culture in SA is much different than in the US. Always put off today what you can do tomorrow.! I love SA worked there for 15 years and going back this winter. Thanks for your input.
I've been a follower of your channel from the very beginning-over three years already, wow! Your videos have been a huge inspiration, and they’ve made me seriously consider retiring abroad. You took that leap of faith, while I’m still hesitant to pull the trigger. "Only the paranoid survive," right? I’ve visited Ecuador several times and even came close to buying a property in Loja. However, with everything happening lately-strikes, cartel violence, curfews, drought, power outages, forest fires, and the looming risks of landslides when the rains return due to the fires (did I miss anything?)-it’s hard not to feel uncertain about the future. Ecuador doesn’t have the luxury of printing money to keep the economy afloat, after all. :) That said, if you can weather the storms and aren’t afraid of the rebuilding process-especially since you’re young and healthy-it might just work out in the long run. Honestly, it’s inspiring to see how much happier and healthier you look now compared to your early videos, despite all the challenges. Clearly, something about this lifestyle is working for you! If you’ve made it through all this chaos, remember: once you hit rock bottom, the only way is up. Wherever life takes you, stay informed, plan carefully, and always prioritize your safety!
Hi Steve and Shon, We hope you're doing well, and thank you for sharing an update. When you have a moment, would you please be kind enough to consider toggling on the Spanish subtitle options? Thanks for your consideration.
It definitely is a serious thing with the power. I was there for 180 days, and that power issue made me think about the food; what if the butcher shops lose power for too long; that's a major issue because they have to sell that meat, and that's a great concern for people getting sick with spoiled food. Ice cream shops are super popular; imagine all of those shops without power. Do they lose their businesses because they can't sell? Fortunatelly, I was close to a hospital, and the power didn't cut off more than an hour. When the power shut off, the whole entire neighbor were blowing horns of loud speakers and honking the horns in their cars also, because they're familiar of when there is no power. The theives try to take advantage, so they make all that noise so everyone stays aware and protects their property. Straight up, the Ecuador President, which happens to be a USA citizen that was born in Miami, raised the taxes; they need to use that money to go ahead and fix the thermal infrastructure that they claim to have been sabotaged by a prior presidential administration. Instead of pointing fingers at the past; the Naboa administration needs to do work, and get that infrasture fixed now! Or else, the economy will end up worse than what it already is, and tourism, which is a major financial thing, will slow down dramatically. I'm married to an Ecuatoriana and have a baby on the way in Quito, so, I have to deal with it unfortunately.
The people (especially the most vulnerable) always suffer most. Other people's medical needs today may be your medical needs tomorrow, it's a really random chance. The government should not get a pass when these issues arise. These things don't 'just happen'.
Hi. I am really interested in relocating to Ecuador and I believe Cuenca is the location I prefer after numerous research and watching your videos. However, I would like to connect with people or a person in the expat community who would be able to lend support after arriving like being there to see a familiar face when walking out of the plane. You guys are a great resource when researching. I am a solo female traveler who is planning to move to Ecuador. Please advise.
Thank you so much! I am getting more and more excited about moving abroad. Thank you for this honest and insightful video about the climate and other conditions. It's awesome!!❤
You don't know that expat in e spanish means someone who has been forcibly take out from his/her country. But gringos come and go by their own will. So we have sttrugle. Also for nationals to complain is something that carries a kind of condemm, you can we can't. And mosto of nationals are more affected than gringos with this conditions
Es una forma pendeja de no considerar que ellos si pueden ir por el mundo con mucha más libertad que la gente de los lugares a donde ellos van. Y de paso se desvinculan de un término que ellos consideran inherentemente malo
Oh my God dude.... if you tell ex-pats they should not complain, they gonna MELT DOWN!!! LOL! It's like one of the top 5 activities. It might have beat Pickleball! HAHAHAHA
love you guys, thanks for the positive outlook on things, not stopping us from planning our trip at all
You're welcome 😁
As an expat here myself, I know we are all in this together !
I am a smartass most of the time, but I agree with this sentiment.
Solar, an industry, way to employ people.....would be SO beneficial.
great show ....thanks you two cuties
Yeah it's kinda crazy they haven't already taken advantage of it.

Well said, there are way too many hard working Ecuadorians who are negatively affected by the drought, for us to complain.
Great attitude to have.

I'll take the power outage and the drought, just want a piece of mind. I'm mental drained.🥰

Fantastic take on the current situation here. The government absolutely needs to stop focusing on the past and look to the future 💯💯

How are the Hospitals for expats that want to relocate to Equador?
Depends on your exact needs and the area, some are better equipped than others, however the actual medical care is pretty great 👍🏾
Guess we should all send Al Gore a 'we apologize" "my bad" letters. LOL
😂😂
Expats???? Lol. Migrants. Migrants. That is the word
Es una forma pendeja de no considerar que ellos si pueden ir por el mundo con mucha más libertad que la gente de los lugares a donde ellos van. Y de paso se desvinculan de un término que ellos consideran inherentemente malo
I don't like the term Ex-Pat but Foreigner is a good word for me.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 I try my best to be as neutral as possible but you're speaking pure facts 💯
