So many find so much joy in the sights and sounds of December-especially, the arrival of Christmas. Along with green and red decorations, signs and posters featuring a certain jolly, red-robed gentleman, and music you just can not get out of your head, comes the perennial question: Is Christmas a pagan holiday?
Most don’t even care about the answer, but for those who take biblical faith seriously, it is a serious question-and a question in need of an answer. And we will answer that question here on Tomorrow’s World, straight from the pages of your Bible, right now.
Greetings, and welcome to Tomorrow’s World where we help you make sense of your world through the pages of the Bible! Today we’re going to tackle a question that seems to arise every December: “Is Christmas a pagan holiday?”
We’ll be examining the question honestly and openly, with a desire to orient our hearts and minds according to the advice of Jesus Christ as He taught us in Matthew 6 and verse 33 to
“seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.”
And the question is important. How we choose to honor the Father and His Son matters. As we will see in the inspired words of Scripture, our practices have a profound effect on our relationship with God and on the character we are forming for His use and purposes.
For literally hundreds of thousands of people who consider themselves sincere Christians, the Christmas season is among the most sacred.
It is a time for calling to mind the birth of Jesus Christ, the promised Savior of the world. Many attend religious services in December, devoted to remembering popular narratives of the birth of Jesus, whose birth is ostensibly celebrated on Christmas Day itself.
And many of us have many pleasant memories associated with the Christmas season. In fact, celebrated as it is all over the world, it would be impossible for me to cover in a program such as this one ALL the many customs that individuals across the globe use to make the season special. So, permit me to focus a bit on those customs I, as an American, am more familiar with.
Our cities and even individual homes are often decorated with special reminders of the season-such as nativity scenes, branches or wreaths of holly, and Christmas trees decorated with tinsel of silver and gold. Many will have bought or personally crafted presents for their friends and family members, who will sometimes travel long distances to reunite for a few evenings, enjoy Christmas dinner together, and exchange presents and pleasantries. And many will seek to sneak a kiss from someone while catching them standing under mistletoe.
Of course, some children will be told the night before that their presents are being brought to them from the North Pole by Santa Claus, or “St. Nick,” as the adults wink to each other with a knowing eye.
In the morning, the children enjoy tearing into their presents to see what “Santa” brought them, and some families will head to religious services to hear a message related to the birth of Jesus-especially those who are concerned that commercialism is crowding out what they believe to be the real meaning of Christmas: The message that God sent His Son into the world on Christmas Day, born of the Virgin Mary to be the Savior of mankind.
There’s more that I could say, but hopefully this captures the popular spirit of the Christmas season. Yes, it is a stressful time for many. Sometimes family gatherings are a source of anxiety, and buying gifts for one another can seem a burdensome obligation-especially when the credit card bill begins to reveal the damage of our attempts at merrymaking.
However, I want to acknowledge that many joyous memories tend to be associated with Christmas and the Christmas season. I, myself, as a child and young man participated in these things. I remember the joys of receiving gifts and buying gifts for others. I don’t know if you can see it very well, but these old, blurry pictures are of me as a small child, enjoying his brand new Christmas presents.
You know, I remember seeing once, as a teenager, a small statue depicting Santa kneeling at the cradle of what was, ostensibly, the “Baby Jesus.” And I was moved-I felt at the time that it was a nice way of trying to point out what I thought was the more important aspect of the Christmas season. I’ve even played the part of Joseph once in a Christmas choral performance.
In other words, I’ve been there; I’ve done that.
I mention these things at the beginning of our discussion to highlight a crucial fact. As we tackle our question today-“Is Christmas a pagan holiday?”-we must keep in mind: None of this is relevant.

My husband and I have woken up through our serious walk the past couple years. This year is the first that we are not celebrating the holiday. I have gotten rid of the holiday items and still in the process of doing so. I repented of my sin for celebrating the holiday in the past all the years that I have and teaching the tradition to my kids. I'm now trying to teach them the right way so they don't carry on with the same ungodly tradition with thier kids. Thank you for your insight on this matter and may it help others to know where they are going wrong like we have!!

We give all year, not grudgingly nor in the public eye but the way God intends us to (without our left hand knowing what the right is doing-Matthew 6:3. And we stay away from holidays rooted in paganism which God condemns. I admire you for stepping out in faith and making a change in your life. It is not easy at first, but it is that narrow road that leads to life and things will be more and more fulfilling even in this life for years to come. I grew up with celebrating Christmas. It was always my favorite time of season. I had read the Bible several times and apparently I had veil over my eyes. One day I said prayer and asked God for the truth and there it was. I had read it but never saw it. Jeremiah 10 .
I had to make a choice. My favorite time of year or God.
My mind tried to get me to do usual excuses but there it was truth right there. I chose God.
I asked for the truth and he gave it to me and am forever grateful. I pray that others can see the truth.

3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
We also have Deuteronomy 12, verses 29-32
29 The Lord your God will cut off before you the nations you are about to invade and dispossess. But when you have driven them out and settled in their land,
30 and after they have been destroyed before you, be careful not to be ensnared by inquiring about their gods, saying, “How do these nations serve their gods? We will do the same.”
31 You must not worship the Lord your God in their way, because in worshiping their gods, they do all kinds of detestable things the Lord hates. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire as sacrifices to their gods.
32 See that you do all I command you; do not add to it or take away from it.
You are violating the 1st and 2nd commandments, by bringing pagan practices into your home, since they come from other gods, as well as the 3rd, if you connect those pagan practices with the worship of the God of Christianity, and associate HIS holy name, with them.

It is possible to celebrate the holy days and Christmas feeling. Life has brought so much hardship and many churches did not support Christians over the past 3 plus years that they ought to have. Never begrudge those who find joy for themselves in the magic of Christ's birthday. It is not all about gifts to everyone. But gift giving and receiving is symbolic of caring. May the wonder of this season be cherished always.

The 'magic' of Christmas is the 'spirit' of Christmas, which is not the Spirit of the Word of God.
Though we would not have the cross without his incarnation, we are redeemed by his blood, and we 'are healed by his stripes' not by his manger or cradle.
Had Christ only been born there would be no salvation.
There is so much time, effort and ministry wasted this way.
Philanthropy is not the Gospel of God.
The spirit of Christmas does not include repentance, but pampering our sinful nature under disguise.

I stopped celebrating Christmas when I was 17 and learned the truth about it. I am happy to say that I have never once celebrated it on my own in my life (with family as a child, but that was out of my control).
If we ignore the origins of the day and all other aspects and just focus on the shear number of lies told on that day, that is reason enough for me not to celebrate it as God states that all liars will have their part in the lake of fire. We do not worship God using lies. Also, God states that He will not listen to our prayers if we keep such a day, and I need Him to hear me.
    Isaiah 1:14-15 (NIV)
“Your New Moon feasts and your appointed festivals I hate with all my being. They have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them. When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you; even when you offer many prayers, I am not listening.”

I am an American but I have majored in German in school (bachelor's degree) and have a German Business certificate. I know a lot about Germany. I lived in Germany for three years and I spent a month there this past summer. I am glad to see that you refrain from Xmas even in that environment. I have never kept Xmas and I am glad. I feel like I am the happiest person in December. Everyone seems stressed out at the end of December. For us December 25th is another day. I know it has nothing to do with Christ's birthday (that we are not given the exact date and we were not commanded to keep it or any birthdays) but with pagan gods birthdays. I want to follow God ways and He has blessed me in many ways with the fruit of his Holy Spirit, love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, etc. I am very thankful for all God has given me-especially for His truth. God bless you for wanting to keep God's commandments and ways-you are showing Him by keeping His commandments that you love Him! John 14:15

In music, stage plays...cartoons...movies on DVD...I also decided I can celebrate the birth of Jesus every day...not at just one time of the year..I realized that as believers we never really asked Almighty God how we should celebrate the birth ofJesus...We mostly follow these Traditions because that is what we know and knew since Childhood...but that is also what our Parents knew..and their Parents and so on..I am learning more about Holiday times actually mentioned in the bible.. Now anytime is a good time to give gifts. People like getting them and giving them..People love to eat delicious food.. gather together with family and friends....We don't need a special occasion to do it.. Most anytime is a good time to shop..Over the last few years I wondered if I should ask God about how it's done..There is so much commercialism..Jesus was born...we don't know the exact date...but there was no flying raindeer...or Kind jolly man in a red and white suit...Kinda like Thanksgiving Day...I am great ful/ thankful every day..24/7)365 Selah.
Not just that one day listed on the Calendar.

I loved decorating for Christmas but 2 yrs ago I was convicted of decorating and having a Christmas tree, this year , i only put up my manger and days later was convicted of that. I believe the Holy Spirit is trying to get God's children to separate themselves from anything pagan or from the occult. As we get closer to the days of sorrow we need to remove ourselves from anything that isnt of God. Satan looks for ways to have access to us, but God is showing us how to slam those doors shut and lean completely on Him. We need to be to survive tribulation.

And Satanists couldn't care less - they deal in misdirection and deceit. Either way none of them liked that Christians gather together to celebrate Jesus' conception. So they devised a way to subvert it by creating Santa to take the place of Jesus and make the kids only think about Santa and toys. In the Greek Antichrist means Instead-of-Christ. They replaced Jesus with Santa (Satan), and now Santa is the focus instead of Christ. People even leave out a food offering for Santa (cookies and milk). I feel the same as you but we've got to be strong in our walk !!! I grew up with the celebration of Christmas and I've always thought that it was of the TRUE GOD but as I got older I started to understand what was GOD'S WILL and I had to look at my experiences in a different way . May CHRIST be with us at all times and I PRAY that we don't fail !!!

@DiscipleDave DotCom When was Jesus born then? More so, the birthday of Jesus Christ is not even a comparison of importance to His teachings and lifestyle, such as keeping the Sabbath and Passover. That was and should be the focus of us being true Christians, not the tainted, pseudo- religious Christmas we all know today.

      What is truth?
People are happy and merry. That is truth.
People are making money so they can survive for another year.
Churches or places of worship are rich collecting money from us. That is truth.
Jesus is not a child. He is not being killed or physically punished. He is risen from the dead and is a spirit at the right hand of God. He is our Judge.
It is nice to repent, baptised and receive the Holy Spirit (our helper and educator).

@DiscipleDave DotCom You appear to be young and deeply troubled. You sound like a preacher.
Be enlightened by the Holy Spirit so that you do not accuse your brother unwisely. I will explain only a few:-
Jesus is not a child. He is risen and He is One with the Father (and the Holy Spirit...not what TW teaches).
At easter season, Jesus is not suffering or being nailed to a tree. He died so that we can be forgiven and we should remember Him. He is risen and sent the Helper to help and enlighten us.
(A lot of what you said agree with what I said except for the happy or merry part. Jesus is One with God the Father, not a man nor a son of David.)

I have seen your introduction on your YT channel and i gathered that you were "born again".
I am not attacking you young one, but I can see by your answers why you miss many points. It is because you are analysing each phrase or sentence out of context.
You are not a baby in a manger nor Jesus the Messiah. You are an adult and Jesus is in Heaven.
Jesus is everywhere but cannot be seen although you might be seeing some manifestation of Him at the moment.
Before I write anything that is related to people on christian comments, I look at what Jesus will say and hope I have the Holy Spirit's approval. Therefore I cannot be a judge or a jurer.

I have known these facts intellectually but after choosing to focus on OUR FATHER’s Calendar this year He is giving me The blessing of appropriating the knowledge in my spirit which is actually His spirit. I will now celebrate yes YESHUA’s birth during the feast of tabernacles.
For me I feel the freedom to enjoy the Christmas season now only in respect of Saint Nicholas and his kindness towards children The same way I enjoy Saint Patrick’s day and his focus on sharing the gospel. I know that many may not agree since they don’t agree with Saint Patrick’s theology but for me being of Irish descent I’m very thankful that God used Ireland to help save civilization.
Look that up you might find it super interesting.

Jehovah's Witnesses first told everybody that Christmas as well as some other holidays are antichristian. Why don't you go to the source to learn other Christian truths? There are many other things that so-called Christians believe and practice that are not in agreement with the Bible. This video is a wonderful release.

But, i did knew a little about the pagans, thanks for the full knowledge. My question is: if someone gives you a gift, do you accept it? Or invite you over for a Christmas party or dinner do you go?? Please, give me the answer.

Great message of truth. The only thing l believe you need to clarify is the last scripture you quoted. Was the washing of pitchers, cups and hands (Note: you skipped over that part of scripture)a pagan tradition ? Or an Israelite tradition ? This tradition sounds like a good one as far as cleanliness goes. Don't take me wrong I am a fellow brother in Christ Jesus and constantly seeking the truth of the LORD. I have been born again in CHRIST JESUS. So l know exactly what truth you were trying to convey, but the enemy will try to use this. That being said you did the best job l have seen of revealing the truth in this matter. The truth will indeed set you free. Please clarify.
    Sincerely,
    Your brother in CHRIST JESUS,
    Gary R. Sweetser II

I am a Christian and was not aware of pagans celeration date. Till recently, one thing is that I couldn't get out of it because my family and I had been celebrating Christmas since the children were born. I did tell the children, but the father is another matter.
They are so used to the food and gift exchanges. Time and time again I tell them that I don't want to be part of the Christmas party. But my husband is in control to get me involved. So I just go on joining the family.
I am glad that the Christmas tree and the decorations are already off.
The family get-together dinner and gift exchanges are still an ongoing long process.

I've struggled with this one for the last few years. I've celebrated Christmas my whole life, but I'm now questioning it. And in fact, last month, I just wasn't feeling the Christmas spirit. I don't know if this is God's way of trying to convict me that this is wrong or if I'm just getting older.

God certainly wants us to obey Him, and this is His thought on it: Deut 12:30-31. God actually has days He wants us to keep that are spelled out in His Word. If you'd like, you can order our free booklet, "The Holy Days: God's Master Plan" orders.tomorrowsworld.org/order/HD Again, everything we offer is completely free and we never ask for money. Just something to consider if God is convicting you.

God is not the author of chaos. Those who create chaos therefore are not of the true God of Peace. May those of the true God pray for this work. Do you even read the Bible? People have forgotten to fear the Lord now but there will be fear at the end when He says go away I never knew you. Wake up. Repent and turn to our Savior. I pray that your eyes be open before it’s too late. God bless.
