- Salute to Farmers! Prepping for the Rose Parade on New Years Eve in Los Angeles, Hollywood, Malibu, and Santa Monica! After we spent the morning over at AES with the AgPhd crew having the float judged we decided to take off and tour the area. We stopped in Hollywood for a farmers market and the walk of fame, then cruised up to Malibu and got lost somewhere north of town for a while before we finally headed back towards the beach and ended up at the Santa Monica Pier. Also, a bird attacked Becky.
I am a 5th generation family farmer from West-Central Minnesota. The recent interest in food, combined with a large amount of 'misinformation' has driven me to start this channel. I hope to be someone people can relate to and trust when they question how their food is grown and raised. I also hope to become a 'smarter' farmer through my experiences with this channel. I strongly believe we must have an open mind and a willingness to learn about others, or we cannot move forward as one. My goal is to build the connection between farmers and consumers by facilitating a collaborative conversation amongst everyone. I do this by sharing my day-to-day farming experiences, my opinions on certain topics, and occasionally visiting other farms and businesses to help better understand other farming and business practices. There is no limit to where this channel may go, so please join me!!

I live in Las Vegas and go over to SO CAL to the beach cities often. Looks like you saw a couple of the few things that's worth seeing over there in the Hollywood Liberal area of California, seeing it once is enough. :)

Glad that you made it there and enjoy your time on the float, was on the pier about a month ago wasting some time before we got onto a cruise ship to go thru the Panama canal . Nice place to visit but I don’t think we would like to live there.

LA is a little high speed isn’t it? That’s by far the craziest place I’ve been as I haven’t traveled much. I’m just a guy from Oklahoma though. Lol I jumped on a bus at the airport to catch a ride to the rental car place and this guy drove a city bus like a Honda Civic. Either throttle on the floor or brake on the floor and driving within inches of other cars the entire ride. I just about lost it.
Strangefruit So far I actually think it seems really laid back compared to what I was expecting, actually.
MN Millennial Farmer I might have got the impression just from the airport. I left lax and headed east so I didn’t spend much time in town. I was glad to leave though. Missed my flight headed home because i didn’t account for how bad the traffic would be. That was definitely a learning experience. I was then faced with the choice of staying two more days in the middle of LA to fly with the same airline and pay a $75 fee or buy a whole new ticket home. Long story short don’t miss your flight.
I realize this video is almost two years old, but I thought I'd mention this anyway. A guy at church was at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester last week and he saw Tom Selleck in a waiting lobby there. He wasn't sure it was Mr. Selleck until they called him for his appointment by saying, "Mr, Selleck". So if you want to see famous people, don't go to Hollywood. Just drive a couple hours south to Rochester, my home town.
Did you look for roasted almonds at the farmers market? That could have been your connection to an almond farm.

They were looking for a few more farmers and our local dealer called us to ask and we figured it would be a quick, fun getaway! So far it's been a lot more fun than I expected.

I have never been impressed with anything the hefty boys have tried to come up with. Just seems like an excuse to spend more money. Not the way I operate.
GermanShepherd1983 hmm. Sorry to hear that. That hasn't been our personal experience with them. Granted we don't buy into much 'extras' I guess I call them. I tend to believe we're a little old school with some of our agronomy.
If you bought into everything hefty's were pushing, it's always $5 and acre more another $10 there, etc, it would cost $500 an acre to plant a crop. That's no exaggeration either. I can't take them seriously when the stuff they are pitching is often times the stuff they are selling.
Fair enough. I guess in my experience, that is sometimes the case with any supplier we work with!
