I dont mean any dissrespect to Popcorn, but we cant honestly say he made the best shine ever (that said it probably is one of the best in our days), but we do know he was the last legitimate moonshiner. Killed himself when the feds came to take him to prison. He was one of those legitimate American icon's that we can have the pleasure to say we shared the same timeframe with, him and Johnny Cash.

Even triple run your probably pushing 140 proof if you are running a pot still, not 180. Funny thing is, if you want a beverage Id aim for a lower like 60, 100 max. Its the water with the alcohol that absorbs or carries flavour.

I always had heard it was near impossible to break 75% with a pot still, and you needed a proper reflux with plates get near 90. Am I wrong? Educate me, because I'd love to build a better still on the cheap.
@@totallylegalshit7579 ok. I used an old stainless steel pressure cooker with some old copper line for a hot water tank. I found it all in my garage that my dad left behind years ago. I started watching the show “moonshiners” and realized they were giving hints at the end of every episode. I replaced the valves with attachments for the copper tubing and a plug for a meat thermometer. I set my temperature low but gauged it with a laser thermometer to get it right. I just let it drip, never a stream, while I sat at the table keeping an eye on it and tasting it once in a while to separate heads, body and tails. I then would distil the body 2 more times and my product was done. I certainly didn’t expect to get that high quality but my father told me about sugar-shine. Get turbo yeast and nothing but water and sugar, in 5 days you are ready to cook… and I didn’t mean to imply you were rude, so the apology is all mine brother. Have fun with this info sir🙂

One improvement I made over my last still was to have a way bigger lline leaving my kettl, reducing down to my half inch line for my worm. Got the idea from old school still, think the parts called a "lynn arm". Condenses vapour before the line, sped up my drip but stayed just as potent. Next im going to add a thumper, maybe 2. You have fun as well, thanks for the tips.

I have family that makes moonshine down in Kantuckee and I just want to say that while Popcorn was 100% legit, he wasn't the ONLY actual moonshiner left. He was however one of the last remaining OG's left that used to run moonshine the old school way and fr is a living legend. However, everyone and there mother with legit relatives there knows where to find the stuff so I would imagine there is still some kick a** moonshine rolling around. In Kentucky, living in those mountains it's not like you can just run down the road to the corner store... well, you can but that "corner store" will be about 10-15 miles MINIMUM if you are lucky. Realistically 20-40 miles, and that's driving slow speeds of 25-35 mph navigating up and down hills. So, you have to make do with what you have as best as you have it. It's all about sustainability and a far less reliance on outside resources compared to other places. I don't think many people understand how isolated these mountain treks and backroads can get. Those Appalachians are freaking huge. When you can see for dozens of miles and you don't see s*** for civilization, the mountain dew coming up as the sun increases the temp outside, and the sounds of nature are echoing down the valley... you know exactly where you're supposed to be and where you're not all at the same time lol. At least you can look around and admire the beautiful works of art that nature has provided for you to ponder upon as you stand there lost as f***.
I remember as a kid going to one of my step-dads friends houses and they gave me a glass of "water" that I drank in 2 gulps.... It was straight moonshine and I literally passed out about 30 minutes later. 🤣🤣
Jr. Johnson , and Dale Earnhardt were MOONSHINERS . My daddy used to go there to get his liquor. Also Sam Brawley was in the movie about Jr.Johnson running liquor. @@walterramirez3885 32 ounce is the big one that they store the shine in. But they make the jars in quite a few sizes. All are available on Amazon. You will get them as a set with lids and bands. They are made for vacuum packing perishable goods that you make yourself for long term storage.
